I just install rss-glx, - the really slick screensavers package, but there are no new screensavers being listed in the GNOME preferences panel in F13. How do I get these nice screensavers into the screensaver preferences?
View 2 RepliesI just noticed that my screensaver was not working in Fedora 14 x86_64 / Gnome. I searched in Yumex on "screensaver" and reinstalled all that were marked as installed, but no joy. Not only does the screensaver not come on (it is set to 30 minutes) but if I go into Preferences > Screensaver and click on one of the choices it does not display the selected screensaver in the preview window. That is, none of them display except Floating Feet and Floating Fedora Bubbles. What is going on is to discover where those two screensavers come from as opposed to the others. i.e., what packages are they from?

There, I see many duplicates of wine programs, such as Windows Media Player, or Wine core exe, wine windows program loader, etc.For example, the "Windows Media Player" is listed at least 10 times in that dialog. How can I remove these duplicates?

On my system, System->Preferences->Software Updates, as best I can determine, completely ignores the "Check for updates: " setting. It looks as if, regardless of what I set, I get daily checks. Is anybody else experiencing this? Anybody got a fix? I like the idea of having the system check for me, so I don't want to just pitch the program.

Unfortunately, I am unable to edit its configurations using its "Preferences" menu, as I just have a big blank area where my preferences are supposed to be. Is there a way to fix this, or a way to edit my preferences manually?am using gnome-applet-globalmenu 0.7.9.
View 3 Replies View RelatedSomething broke recently on my Fedora 14 system. Up until several weeks ago, the mic worked fine, but now it is no longer recognized.
That is to say, if I tap on the mic, sound comes out of the speakers, so the hardware is working, but it doesn't work under Skupe nor does it show up as an input device under Gnome.
Thinking something may have broke in a recent kernel, I went back to an earlier, but the problem remains (now running 2.6.35.11-83.fc14.x86_64, but I have the following installed).
how to get Skype and Gnome to see my mic again?

View 3 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to control the gnome sound preferences widget via the command line? I use optical digital out (IEC95. It works fine. but everytime I reboot there is no sound, I have to go to sound preferences, hardware tab, select my internal audio device, change it from digital stereo duplex to analog surround 5.1, then back to digital stereo duplex, and then the sound works again. I would like to be able to do this via command line so I can write a little startup script and not have to do that every time i reboot.

I had a hard time finding out how to change -- get to-- the simple scan preferences. There is no batten on the screen to open preferences window. I found two way to change the preferences on simple scan.
1. Easy way:
I found that when you run a program in gnome an icon of that application appears on top bar. If you click on that icon a window will appear and one of the items on that window is preferences, by clicking on that you could open preferences window, and change your preferences.
2. Hard way:
Go to applications and open dconf Editor
then go to org section click on it
then go to gnome section click on it
then go to Simple-Scan click on it
now you can change things
i just upgraded to ubuntu 10.04 the netbook distro. at the desktop view there is a list of about 10 buttons/menus listed on the left hand side, is there anyway to control what buttons/menus are listed and which icons are listed under each of them? having a netbook i would like to remove and unclutter the desktop view as much as possible but i dont want to remove those apps i still want to be able to open those apps if i want to even if by removing those icons and menus/buttons makes it a pain.

View 3 Replies View RelatedEvery time I open "sound preferences" from either the sound applet or the preferences menu pulseaudio CPU usage goes right up to 100% and proceeds to lock up the entire computer. pavucontrol, paman, and all the other pulseaudio utils work fine, except for ubuntu's sound preferences. It affects a new account.This is my 10.04 desktop that is affected. I have just the default pulseaudio config.

View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen I start PulseAudio Preferences (paprefs) in Fedora 12, all checkboxes for Network Access, Network Server and Multicast/RTP are grayed out. The feature I'm trying to enable is DLNA. Figuring maybe I'm missing some package needed to enable DLNA-support, I click the Install... button next to the checkboxes for this feature. Installation fails as I already have the rygel package installed, which provides the needed files. I have tried first uninstalling the rygel package and then reinstalling this from PulseAudio Preferences, but still no luck. what needs to be done to enable the grayed out checkboxes for DLNA-support in PulseAudio?

Since changing the screen saver, but not the duration before activation my screen saver comes on every 20 min. I have tried changing and saving settings in YaST and going back to the original choice of screensaver, neither of which have worked.

I'm about to install Opensuse 11.3 on all 24 of our laptops and I find that the number of GL screensavers installed as standard is greatly reduced from previous Opensuse releases. Any idea where I can get the "Molecule" and other screensavers?

I recently updated to OpenSUSE 11.3 with KDE 4.4.4 . I do not find the great series of screensavers which existed in previous versions. I look in sysemsettings, desktop, but there I find only two version of blank screen as screensaver and no way to install something else.

When I change the "Put display to sleep when in active for" it seems to make no difference. The screen goes to sleep when it wants. Some times in the middle of watching a dvd (after about 10 mins when it is set to 1 hour).Could this be done by terminal, perhaps there is a problem between entering in the GUI and actually telling the machine.
