OpenSUSE Install :: 11.3 - No Series Of Screensavers Under KDE 4.4.4
Sep 27, 2010I recently updated to OpenSUSE 11.3 with KDE 4.4.4 . I do not find the great series of screensavers which existed in previous versions. I look in sysemsettings, desktop, but there I find only two version of blank screen as screensaver and no way to install something else.

Sep 24, 2010don't use gnome/KDE or XFCE, I use Ratpoison. Because of this, the normal state of my computer is to show my wallpaper which rotates often enough that I don't need or want a screensaver.How do I stop the screen from going black every ten minutes? This is also bad when I watch a movie.

Dec 30, 2010I just noticed that my screensaver was not working in Fedora 14 x86_64 / Gnome. I searched in Yumex on "screensaver" and reinstalled all that were marked as installed, but no joy. Not only does the screensaver not come on (it is set to 30 minutes) but if I go into Preferences > Screensaver and click on one of the choices it does not display the selected screensaver in the preview window. That is, none of them display except Floating Feet and Floating Fedora Bubbles. What is going on is to discover where those two screensavers come from as opposed to the others. i.e., what packages are they from?

Feb 22, 2010I'm running KDE, with 11.2 32-Bit. At first, my screen saver worked just fine, coming on after 130 min, being just long enough to watch a movie. Since changing the screen saver, but not the duration before activation my screen saver comes on every 20 min. I have tried changing and saving settings in YaST and going back to the original choice of screensaver, neither of which have worked.

Jul 17, 2010I run a molecular biology lab and we like to run the "Molecule" GL screensaver in order to look cool (I know it doesn't actually save screens, and it wastes energy, but you know..). I'm about to install Opensuse 11.3 on all 24 of our laptops and I find that the number of GL screensavers installed as standard is greatly reduced from previous Opensuse releases. Any idea where I can get the "Molecule" and other screensavers?
I am running KDE and have the following relevant packages installed:
kdeartwork4-screensaver
xscreensaver
xscreensaver-data
xscreensaver-data-extra
gnome-screensaver
gnome-screensaver-extra
This apparently gives me just 8 GL screensavers - there used to be a great many more?

Just for giggles, I booted a Kubuntu 11.04 CD, updated the sources.list, installed rss-glx and was able to use the rss-glx and other opengl screensavers. The reason I say opengl is because those are the ones that I use but no screensavers work.

May 2, 2010Very happy with new 10.4 install, however there is a nagging password prompt every time I boot. At first I thought it was the wireless but I have that automated and it asks for the password well after the internet connection is established. I am pretty sure it relates to the passwords for Twitter, Facebook etc that I gave it to use the new tools in 10.4 Is there any way to give it permanent permision so it doesn't ask me at boot up? I would hate to have to stop using the nice new tool because of this.

Oct 11, 2010So I installed Ubuntu Server 10.10 64-bit for testing purposes. But when I went to connect it to my wireless network at home, it showed that iwconfig wasn't installed by default like it did in 10.04. Does anyone know how I can either connect my system to the network without using iwconfig, or how I can get iwconfig and install it from a flash drive or some other form of digital media? And I can't do apt-get since I can't get on my network. And I also can't plug in a ethernet cable because my network port is broken.

May 29, 2010I have already had Vista installed on another drive and from what i've read on the webs you get to dualboot if you install ubuntu after vista. when i did install it (i installed on a blank hdd with no partitions, choosing the "erase entire disk" option since for some reason default option was attempting to eat a part of my windows 1 gb drive instead of using disk i specially made for it) and the grub 2 loaded for the first time, there was NO option to run vista. only 2 linux (normal and recovery) and 2 memtests. I've ran linux and went to google this. I found that i should add something to some config files in /etc/grub.d/From reading the readme file i understood i could add my own files that are named like NUMBER_SOMENAME and insert code into them. General :: Default Install For Cent OS 4.7?
Oct 4, 2010Installing this on an old Pent II 350 MHz machine. Ethernet card has a RTL8029 chip on it.
Install went well. During boot the statement "Determining IP information...fails" No IP is assigned to the NIC. I have DHCP running on my linksys router. Should not be an issue.
In a default install, will Cent OS 4.7 normally get the NIC setup with connectivity or is there further config work to do on setting up routes and iptables(firewall) ?
Ubuntu :: Changed Default Mp3 Player But Default Still Starting
Aug 21, 2010I changed the default player for mp3 to audacious, which works fine, just that every time I doubleclick a mp3 file, a second application button appears in my taskbar saying "opening [file]" which looks like the default player. this program will eventually time out and go away, but it's still annoying - any idea on how I would go about fixing this?
