OpenSUSE :: 11.3 Search And Launch View - No Right-click Menu
Apr 4, 2011
I changed the kde desktop layout to Search and Launch on an 11.3 64-bit machine and lost the ability to bring up a right-click menu on the desktop, also tried it on an 11.3 32 bit machine and experienced the exact same thing how I can solve this even if it means reverting to the default layout? I suppose I could delete and re-create the user's /home but I'm wondering if there's a way to solve this without resorting to that On the one machine I've put 11.4 on so far it's using the search and launch layout with absolutely no problems at all and finding it very handy
the 11.4 machine I'm using this layout on actually logs onto the 11.3 64 bit machine I first had the problem with via nis and an nfs /home export For the user it's working fine under I set the search and launch layout from the 11.4 machine, the user I'm getting the problem with on the 64-bit machine (nis/nfs server) was set on the server itself. The 11.3 32 bit machine however, I disabled nis and nfs so that it would use local logons and /home only so it seems to be an issue with 11.3 itself and regardless of cpu architecture
I just loaded KNE 10.4 onto my Dell Mini and I'm trying to get it configured. Some apps that I have installed using Synaptic (Kpackage seems pretty useless, even aside from the fact that the package names are illegible) are not showing up in the Search and Launch, and I would also like to add an additional category and add some items to the favorites list at the top of the page.
Right clicking does not seem to provide any options to change what used to be the menus, and middle clicking puts strange little yellow boxes at the bottom of the screen. (I haven't figured out how to make those go away. What config files hold the data I want to update? Are they not under ~/.kde for some reason?
Yesterday I burnt a couple of CD's with Brasero. Project completed successfully. But.. now if I try and open Nautilus and go to any of my folders under Places>Home/Music/Documents, in fact anywhere, it goes straight into Brasero and seems to think I have an uncompleted project. There is also a box open which promts me to rename/not rename for full Windows or Linux comaptabilty. As of right now I cant get rid of Brasero and get to any folders/files.
In these days I was doing some experiments: creating rpms of different programs by compiling directly the source code. Everything went well, every-time I was able to create a rpm and install it correctly, no errors no issues. Unfortunately I was not able to find the way to create in the menu (application tab) any quick launch icon. I was forced always to use the terminal and digit the correspondent command :wxmaxima, gnuplot, etc. I tried to look in the manuals but there wasn't anything useful.
By the way I am using Opensuse 11.3 and KDE 4.4.4.
I just installed openSUSE for the first time. I customized the installation by removing unwanted software during setup, but unfortunately I must have removed something needed because when I open the main menu using the button in the bottom left corner there is the search bar missing. Which software package do I need to install to get it back?
In recent versions of KDE4, I have been able to assign the application menu to the right mouse button. In 4.6, the only thing that appears is Desktop Settings. Does anyone know when the fix for this will be included in KDE 4.6 updates? And, is it possible to move to a previous version of KDE in 11.4?
Not sure if this is a bug or not, but the popup menu is now gone. using KDE 4.4.4 opensuse 11.3. Anyone with an idea of what go hosed, or needs to be unset? where in the .kde directory is the file that needs to be changed?
First things first, I've just moved from Ubuntu with Gnome to openSuse with KDE. So I'm lost as doing some things in this environment. However, I'm loving what I'm seeing with suse/kde combo. I'm planning on making an extensive right-click menu to categorize all my applications. Basically I want to have the "start" menu available to me when I right-click. I've google casually for a couple days and haven't found much that helps, but I think its because I'm not using the correct keywords seeing as I'm new to this environment.
I have a feeling I'm going to have to make a [Desktop Entry], but I'm not sure how to handle hierarchy and stuff like that.
I have a few items in the Menu that refer to the start scripts of extracted Java programs that came as tarballs.Go into the Menu Editor and rename one of these (e.g. to reflect an updated version)Save - Message says "Updating System Configuration"Browse using Lancelot - the old name is not there but the new one is.Search using Lancelot - the new name is not there but the old one is.The new name is only in the search after reboot. Is there anyway to get Lancelot to update the search index straight away after a menu editor change?
After I adjust my slackware and rebooted I saw a strange "rectangle" on my desktop. Please, look at the screenshots below and tell me how I should solve this problem.
I can't move it. Right-click menu on a rectangle coincides with a right-click on desktop. It does not prevent, but very annoying.
I am wondering how you can change the view of the classic GNOME menu (Applications | Places | System) in 11.3 to the "classic" view (like in Fedora)? The Applications menu has to much sub-menus. I prefer it flat. The nautilus bookmarks are not directly accessible in Places either, which is not really comfortable.
I just installed Beagle and I have it indexing (by launching the indexer and checking its status via the terminal) but I can't figure out how to launch the actual searching GUI. I did some research online and found that this is done by clicking on the "search" icon under Applications > Accessories but there is not icon entitled Beagle nor search there? How do I access it?
I'm brand new to Linux and Ubunto 10.04.On the menu bar at the top of my desktop I seem to have attracted some kind of bug!The Log Out Symbol repeats itself across almost the entire menu bar and I cannot remove it. If I remove other buttons from the menu the space is immediately replaced by more Log Out Buttons. When I hover on the icon I get the message 'Log out of this session to log in as a different user' and when I right-cllick to click on 'Remove from Panel' or 'Move' nothing happens. It is not possible to right-click on another part of the menu bar to change the Menu Properties.
i have java app. i want make my Linux dedicated to that application.such that, when Linux load it start the app, start menu have Shutdown, reboot and my application luncher, only one window , desktop right-click also have the same menu-items as start-menu.
In my top right corner I got all my Ubuntu appindicators that come with Ubuntu 11.04. I also have Dropbox, caffeine and screenlets. Problem is that I cant click on dropbox, caffeine, battery indicator, wlan or sound indicator until I first click on messages menu and slide over to appindicator that I need. When screenlets appindicator is not present there is no problem. Its the same when I had Jupiter installed.
I've looked, but no luck. Coming from Debian, 5.02, is there a setting in Ubuntu 10.10 that will allow me to single click to open a folder/launch a program. I don't mean the one i am using now that is set up with the mouse setting where it seems to be an assistive technologies application where there is a slider to set the dwell time (when i use this one, i get a menu opening at the same time as the application launch), but the one where the pointer turns to a little hand when it moves over the icon, and opens/launches the program when the button is released.
I dont use openSuse's Slab menu, instead I use Gnome Main Menu and everything looks perfact except when I click on Places->Search for Files, instead of opening a file search dialog box it opens the resultbox. It seems opensuse messed up this because of Slab Search functionality
We are setting up virtual Ubuntu 10 machines that will just be used to launch a portal to our servers. I have the stripped down image created, but would like it to launch the VMware View Open Client software so it took users directly to what we want them to see.Is there a way with Ubuntu to set that to auto deploy on start up? If I could do that it would greatly improve security on keeping users from getting to places we don't want them into
So I want to get mount/umount option under right click services menu. I went to Dolphin -> Settings -> Configure Dolphin -> Services -> Download New Services and from there I installed KDE CDEmu Emulator and MountISO. But neither of them is showing up in actual context menu. Neither in Dolphin -> Settings -> Configure Dolphin -> Services for that matter. I tried to install them as normal user and as a root. I went to have a peak in /usr/share/kde4/services/ServiceMenus/ but they aren't there as well... It's just me or lots of things seems to be not quite working in 11.3?
I am running Ubuntu 10.04 kernel 2.6.31-22-generic.On the boot menu, I have the option to run 2.6.32-24, but after the log in screen, nothing happens. No panels show up.I can cntl+alt+delete and shutdown, but thats it.I do have an older Nvidia card that might be contributing.
After a fresh install of Ubuntu 10.04 and having installed a bunch of apps, I wanted to adjust the main menu but have found that I can't actually launch the main menu from the System / Preferences menu. Nothing happens.ried typing the Main Menu command alacarte into terminal, and I get the following read out.
jvc@CF1:~$ alacarte Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/bin/alacarte", line 36, in <module>
ubuntu 10.10, Asus 1005PE netbook, not using mouse but the L-R button and the pad. Still learning linux , and as a reminder from interesting pages I always print pdf, but that is a bit long and sensitive navigation throughout screen to the File/Print menu, than select this and that. I remember seeing it long time ago (v8 or 9) adding the print command to the 3rd mouse button or right click. I'm googleing for this but not much luck, anybody can direct me to a detailed "howto" ?
The problem I am facing is the left menu launch bar is not appearing when I startup my machine. The top and bottom menus appear after running gnome-panel in a terminal, but it does not fix the left had side launchbar. If i click in the area where the launch bar is I can start some applications, and sometimes the bar will flash ever so briefly.I am really excited to move away from Microsoft, but I wont be able to until this last piece of the puzzle is fixed. My system details are as follows:
description: Notebook product: 26684GG vendor: IBM
I'm trying to get a multi-boot setup going for a USB.
I have different vfat-32 partitions I have copied ISOs of several linux distros.
The first one I installed using unetbootin, which works great and uses syslinux, but syslinux can't boot other partitions. So, I have grub installed.
I have gotten so far as to be able to get the grub menu up, but trying to load the partition's isolinux (which is how the Linux Mint LDXE distro boots) gives me an grub error 13.
