OpenSUSE :: After Installing Lotus Notes 8.5 - Couldn't Find Any Shortcut To Run It
Feb 22, 2010
I tried to install Lotus Notes 8.5 client on my opensuse 11.2 machine, the installation process goes smoothly but i couldn't find any short cut to run the software !!! nor in the desktop neither in the Recently Installed sub menu !!
I am running Lotus Notes on top of openSuSE since 10.3 and version 7 of Lotus Notes. The last packages provided by IBM (8.5 and 8.5.1) provide a smooth and easy way of installing it through rpm packages. Some issues had appear and I solved them (or lived with ), but this time I did a full fresh install of 11.2 64bits. I then install the brand new packages of Notes 8.5.1 and had the following problem : The Notes GUI wasn't able to display some elements of the interface (i.e. small view of calendar, search bar, popups, Notes basic settings in the properties etc...). Searching by big blue, I found out a solution for Ubuntu that I customized for openSuSE 11.2 64bits.
Step one : Install Lotus Notes: Have a copy of the .tar package from IBM. untar it into a new directory. With YaST add the directory to the repositories Install all the packages provided (the ones with Symphony are really optional).
I am trying to get Notes to run on Ubuntu 9.10 karmic x64 and haven't had any luck. I started off by following the steps from the following location [URL] This didn't work and I had the symptoms listed below. I then looked at the following guide and did all the steps that were not on the above link: [URL] However I still had the same issue. So the symptoms:
1) I don't see notes in the apps->office menu, but I am able to start it via:
cd /opt/ibm/lotus/notes/framework ../notes
2) I get the login window and am able to go through the setup (pointing to the notes id file, and my domino server etc). However at the end of it all, no GUI is displayed. Even though lnotes shows up in the running processes.
3) In the terminal window I get the following error:
I tried to install Lotus Notes 8.5.2 (deb package) on Ubuntu 11.04 64 bit. Unfortunately, Lotus is not able to complete the installation! I googled and I found a guide on IBM forum (but for 10.04 release) and on [URL], I installed required dependencies (ia32lib, all getlibs, ecc) but I am not able to continue the installation. I tried to install in different Ubuntu release. Here a summury:
- Ubuntu 10.10 64 bit: Lotus Notes and FP2 install and works fine - Ubuntu 11.04 32 bit: Lotus Notes and FP2 install and works fine (also in Unity environment) - Ubuntu 11.04 64 bit: Lotus Notes cannot install.
I use Windows XP and Ubuntu 10.04 using Dual Boot in my notebook, but the company that I work support just the Windows XP. I work with Lotus Notes on Windows and I wish read nsf file on Ubuntu. As long as I know I should by Lotus Notes license for linux.

I am trying to launch the IBM installer on RedHat ES 5.2 and getting "the installer is unable to run in graphical mode". I am able to do xclock and made sure the export Display=:0.0.
I install Lotus Notes 8.0.1 on Karmic Ubuntu 9.10, the setup is successfully. However, the mail could not show correctly. the Home shows blank. The mail address could not show for each mail. And some html mail could not show at all.Below are the console output.

using nvidia_173 driver from repository with nvidia geforce fx5500 sping returns this: Could not set video mode: Couldn't find matching GLX visual would installing nvidia-glx-173 package be the solution? just realized i had the nvidia_173 driver activiated, but not in use. ran "sudo nvidia-xconfig" boots in tty1, so i navigated to the X11 directory and deleted xorg.conf, boots to gnome now
how do i keep it from going to tty1? i know there are threads on this here and there, but most leave you with the default driver, and i want to keep nvidia_173
I'm planning on running DirectAdmin on OpenSUSE 11.3 but I couldn't find anything about it. So my question is if anyone actually has done it before.. with good results preferably.
I'm installing Lotus Domino on Linux Server. Did anyone know how to reverse proxy for HTTP and POP3/IMAP on linux ? I've problem when try to open webmail from internet. I can't access webmail and POP3 from internet. Seems because connection from internet can't directly to Domino through Firewall. If using apache seems no problem with the webmail, but POP3 still can't access.
I'm getting this error trying to install Live GNOME 32bit v11.3 or 11.4 build 11:
Code: Couldn't find Live image configuration file
I'm installing from a USB stick. I can install v11.2 the same way no problem. USB stick created using SUSE Studio Image Writer and Win32DiskImager give same results.
I cannot find where tomboy notes are located im trying to change from one comp to another, i have already seen the thread that says they are in ~/.tomboy ".note" files but they are no where to be found and neither is that file?
This post is just intended as a "trail of crumbs" for anybody else who needs to install a "reverse proxy" in CentOS. First, a disclaimer. I really don't know what I am doing--I am trying to figure out "just enough" so I can do what I need to do. My primary OS is Mac OS, and linux is making me resurrect neurons that went to sleep 30 years ago. So I have a subscription to JSTOR, which is a service that uses fixed IPs to determine who you are. When you go to [URL], the services you have access to depend upon the IP that you are coming from. I have a VPS at Linode, with the IP of (say) 1.2.3.4. I registered 1.2.3.4 with jstor when I set up my subscription.
I want to set up a reverse proxy so that when I go to [URL] from home or the office, I get access to jstor. I use mod_proxy_html so that every time I ask my VPS for "1.2.3.4/myjstor/whatever" the VPS goes to jstor (from the IP 1.2.3.4), gets the page, rewrites the page as necessary, and then returns the modified page to my computer. In this way I can browse jstor 'as if' I were actually at the IP 1.2.3.4. So I got all this running last year (well, mostly) with CentOS 5.2. But the other day we got different internet service, with new IPs, and I had to update things. In a fit of madness, I typed
Can anyone tell me what names the tomboy notes application gives to its notebooks and notes? Not the file format (xml) I found that on the web, but the filenames and directory where it stores things.
I'm getting a "Server Error Something has gone wrong (500)" when i try to access the notes page for several days now. When will it be OK?

Just now:

I had installed Ubuntu server 10.04 and i am trying to install Webmin for GUI. When i start with "sudo apt-get install update" the following gets displayed...
Reading package list... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done E: Couldn't find package updates
I had configured correct IP address and i am connected with internet. After googling for some time i figured out that missing repository could cause such problem, which i am not sure.
I'm newbie in ubuntu and trying to install ffmpeg but there's an error which i couldn't figure out.E: Couldn't find package libmp3lame-devi'm trying somethings according to this article;[URl]
I'm new to linux, have been somewhat of a computer geek my whole life and thought it about time that I delved into the world of linux. So I installed ubuntu 10.04 on my computer. I love it. However, I can't get my wireless to work. In my dorms there are no ethernet hookups, so I have to use the wireless. I typed "sudo lshw -class network" into the root terminal. The important things that I figured out was the bus info: pci@0000:4:06.0 and the pysical id: 6 (not sure if the physical id is important but it sounds like it is). I then did a lspci and found that at bus 04:06.0 it is a RaLink Device 3060. I downloaded the .tar file for the driver. I could not find instructions for it online so I followed the ones for the rt2860 driver : [URL].... I could not get it to work, It built ok and installed ok, but when I do the modprobe I get an error saying the device or resource is busy. Either that or that it cannot be found. One thing that I found weird was that I couldn't get it to build a 3060 driver, it would only build a 3562 one.
I have ubuntu intrepid installed in one of the amazon servers , when i try to install any software using apt-get i used to get the following error.Code: E: Couldn't find package E: Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.
When i install libdrm, i get the following error:checking for clock_gettime... no.checking for clock_gettime in -lrt... no.configure: error: Couldn't find clock_gettime
It seems that it cannt find clock_gettime function, but i find it as follow: $ grep clock_gettime /usr/include/time.h extern int clock_gettime (clockid_t __clock_id, struct timespec *__tp) __THROW;
