Ubuntu :: 11.04 - Could Not Download The Release Notes
Apr 28, 2011I get this message when clicking the upgrade button in Update manager. I am attempting to upgrade from 10.10. The full message is as follows:
Could Not Download the release notes Please check your internet connection
My internet connection is fine on that machine, I just updated packages on it seconds before I saw 11.04 was available and can also browse and such

Jun 7, 2010I was still using Ubuntu 9.04, and I decided to upgrade up to 10.04. Upgrading to Karmic was no problem but then I tried to upgrade to Lucid and I always get the message "Can't download release notes", I also cannot upgrade from the command line (is 'sudo apt-get dist-upgrade' discontinued?). I've tried several mirrors during the last couple of days but still I can't get it to work.

Apr 30, 2011I've updated to 11.04 and system-about ubuntu seems to confirm this,but update manager tells me "new ubuntu release 11.04 is available". If I press upgrade it then tells me that "Could not download the release notes" and nothing happens. What should I do ?

I can see no reason why centos-relese-notes should depend on centos-release when I try "yum erase centos-release-notes" I am told there are 72 dependancies including completely irrelevant packages such as tar all because of this unnecessary dependancy.
The centos-release-notes package simply contains a bunch of text/html files that nothing else relies upon, so why the dependancies ?

Jun 3, 2010I saved my entire home directory of 11.1 before installing 11.2.I am slowly recovering everything, but it seems that Tomboy doesn't use ~/.tomboy anymore.I copy that directory from my saved dir to my new homedir and it ignores it. I then deleted the .tomboy dir from my new homedir and created a new note. It didn't recreate ~/.tomboy.So, is there any way to copy my notes from 11.1 to 11.2?

Nov 20, 2009I am running Lotus Notes on top of openSuSE since 10.3 and version 7 of Lotus Notes. The last packages provided by IBM (8.5 and 8.5.1) provide a smooth and easy way of installing it through rpm packages. Some issues had appear and I solved them (or lived with ), but this time I did a full fresh install of 11.2 64bits. I then install the brand new packages of Notes 8.5.1 and had the following problem : The Notes GUI wasn't able to display some elements of the interface (i.e. small view of calendar, search bar, popups, Notes basic settings in the properties etc...). Searching by big blue, I found out a solution for Ubuntu that I customized for openSuSE 11.2 64bits.
Step one : Install Lotus Notes: Have a copy of the .tar package from IBM. untar it into a new directory. With YaST add the directory to the repositories Install all the packages provided (the ones with Symphony are really optional).

Since I use this for work, I don't want the DE to get unstable with updates, but want to do other updates like security updates. Should I disable the KDE Factory Desktop repos? How can I work this so everything updates without taking my KDE into 4.4.1 beta? I ask because I'm not sure yet what comes down through OSS, NON OSS, and Updates repos....or, if I can only do those. I'm just trying to make it dummy proof..I don't tend to break things in linux

Apr 3, 2010I have heard its going to be July. One concern is KDE4.4 and whether this is going to be the KDE default environment for 11.2. Over at KDE, 4.4 is out with a 1 click install for 11.2. The main problem I have discovered from reading the KDE forum is poor multi monitor support with separate X screens. From what I read this is extremely problematic. I would like to update to 4.4 to get the equalizer back in Amorak but attempted once, the day before they officially released 4.4 with no success. I wonder if anyone here is using 4.4 in a separate X screen setup?? Additional thought-- when 11.3 is released will 4.4 be the only option or will we be able to elect to use 3.xx??

The machine will only be used to play music and brows the web, nothing heavy but it MUST play flash content (primarily from .....). I have had varying degrees of success on an older G4 ppc (700 Mhz) but never got it to play flash. are the open source alternatives to flash any good on the machine?

Sep 22, 2010I want to save notes against a file on linux... i want to save meta data about a file..because the file names are restricted in max length...So how to save notes or comments about a file on linux so that it gets saved along with the file itself...I used the notes tab in the file properties dialogbox.. but that way the notes stick to the file only on that OS only.. if i open that file in another linux os.. those comments/notes are gone...Way to embedd these notes into the file so that i dont lose them ever..At lease a solution that makes this possible on switching linux distros. if its not portable enough that these notes stick b/w windows and linux its ok for me.. but atleast if i format my linux os.. atleast i shouldnt lose those important notes..and be able to access on newer linux..
And i also have no idea if this notes tab was implemented to be linked with the OS only.. i dont see much use of it.. and a normal user also has noway to know this.. i also came to know on superuser chat from a buddy.. @Sathya ..this thing is more useless especially if u use ubuntu which has 6 months timeline..and crazy people like me who are always eager to upgrade their os as soon a new one is available..and any way i can search these notes from the terminal?
