Fresh install of openSUSE 11.3 here and I am used to launching Konqueror as root from the CLI and having a cut and paste editor to use. This doesn't work in KDE 4.4. I can't launch kwrite from the cli as root. What am I supposed to use? I installed midnight commander but it can't cut and paste correctly. I am feeling a bit frustrated with KDE 4.4.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am trying to upgrade PHP on our linux box ( CentOS ) I copied the configure command from the phpinfo and now I want to execute that.I am not able to copy the command from an editor in linux to the command prompt, clicking the wheel om my mouse does not work, neither does shift-insert or ctrl-shift-insert.It does work in the editor itself.Is there a way to do this ?Or is there a way to execute the command in linux while it is in the file ? Like a bat file on Windows ?

I can select with mouse support enabled everything that I want to in Nano and I can cut it, but when I try to copy into my other text editor, it does not work.
View 4 Replies View RelatedAfter I installed luckyBackup, two icons were added to the 'More applications' window. The first one launches luckyBackup and works fine. The second one is called 'luckyBackup (super user mode' and is supposed to launch luckyBackup with root privileges. However nothing happens when I click on it. I see that the associated command is 'su-to-root -X -c /usr/bin/luckyBackup'. Typing that command in a shell results in an error as su-to-root does not exist. So... is this syntax ('su-to-root -X -c /usr/bin/luckyBackup') supposed to work, or shall I edit it (how?) in order to be able to launch the application as root?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to view directly a partition with a damaged filesystem on it (NTFS) and so far the hex editors I tried do not do that. I tried GHex for example and it complained that /dev/sda is not a file. The partition is unmountable as NTFS however since it is damaged so I couldn't mount it first. Are there any hex editors out there that would allow me to view the contents directly and copy and paste stuff in there?

So I need an editor that can take its initial window size from command line args or environment variables, or possibly from an initial command that can be given on the command line.I've looked at documentation and experimented with gedit, gvim (and vi & vim), and nano and I don't think any of them can be controlled this way. Vi and its friends have a "window" option and also a "resize" command, both of which are described as setting the number of rows, but they don't change the graphical window size they just change the number of rows displayed in the window.

I use webmin and putty to administer the system. I have two 1.4 TB drives for storage and one 500 GB drive with 18 GB mounted for root.I performed a large cut & paste operation (25.8 GB of files) using the File Manager in Webmin to move a certain folder into another folder within /media/Work. The operation failed and I am now getting a "root filesystem full" error, and am stumped.

The host is running XRDP xorg-x11-server-rdp-7.3.99-9.1, xorg-x11-server-dmx-7.3.99-42.1, xrdp-0.4.1-39.1 The client is running MS RDP 6.0.6x Generally, all is well. View 5 Replies View RelatedOn windows I really only used Notepad++ as my text editor, it had two features that I loved.What I need to accomplish is what I would do with Notepad++ column editor.I could have like 100 lines, and place the cursor at a column, and goto edit>column editor, and I could insert an incrementing number. (I could also pad the incrementing number with 0s, this was GREAT for making batch files among other things.)So each line at that column had a number higher than the previous line.The other feature that I used sometimes was a search/replace with regex patterns.Does anyone know of an editor that has those features for linux? I am mostly after the column editor insert feature but if you know of one with both features that would rock.
View 1 Replies View RelatedSuddenly the mouse middle button paste feature does not work in Bluefish and OpenOffice. It is driving me crazy. I have become so used to this feature I am constantly forgetting to ctl c/v to cut and paste.
It works everywhere else. ( For example, I can use it in this text box that I am typing this message in. ) and when I select text in either Bluefish or OpenOffice it shows up in Klipper. Strangely, if I select that text in Klipper I can paste it into either application with the middle button.
