I have installed 9.04 ( I currently have it on dual boot with Windows XP) and my problem is that I have no internet connection. I have a Motorola modem with a Realtek RTL8139 Family Fast Ethernet NIC network card ( it's a wired connection, btw) When I plug in the cable, there's a little animation, but after a while I get the message: Wired connection is not active (or something like that) Here's what I did so far:
1) I ticked the Wake-On-Lan option in XP, since I read it in the forums that I could solve my problem. It did not
2) I turned off my modem, rebooted my system.
3) I deleted the Auto Ethernet network, and plugged in the cable again...no use.
4) I did an ifconfig, since I know that is what you guys really want
evajulia@Derek:~$ ifconfig
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:18:f3:ab:2b:3a
inet6 addr: fe80::218:f3ff:feab:2b3a/64 Scope:Link

I have installed Ubuntu 10.04 LTS on my Compaq 767TU notebook. Everything is working fine except "Realtek RTL8139 PCI adapter". Although it is showing up in device list and installed but the LAN link indicator lights are off. No communication is possible with dhcp.

I have installed Debian squeeze 6.0.1 using the CD1 of the i686 version (kernel 2.6.32.5) on my compaq presario sr1799es desktop. My machine has a ethernet card RTL8139 (RTL-8139/8139C/8139C+)(it has no wireless card). I can't connect to internet with debian.
I can connect to internet in this machine using windows xp. I also checked with the Puppy linux 5.2.5 version (with kernel 2.6.33.2) using a usb memory and I had success connecting to internet by dhcp. I already checked lots of forums with related questions but I couldn't find a solution for my problem. I'll show you the output of lspci and lsmod !grep 8139 commands:

I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 Server. I can't get my Wireless Card & Wired Card to work at the same time. My interfaces file is incorrect, when I comment out 1 of the interfaces the other works. I have attached my interfaces file.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently installed Xubuntu on my old P3 laptop (Compaq Armada E500 if anyone is familiar). The laptop is a bit old, so both wired and wireless networking is done via PCMCIA cards. I have 2 cards installed, one for each purpose. I can't find the dongle for the wired card right now, so I am trying to use the wireless card. I am able to find the network I want to connect to, and type in the password since the network is secured. It tries to connect but then pops up again asking for the password (I know it is correct). Is this card supported by linux/compatible? I tried finding drivers online but the sites that had drivers were down.
View 1 Replies View RelatedJust installed Fedora 14 from the Live CD i686 on my Dell Inspiron 1521. I can't connect to the SpeedTouch 585 on either wireless broadcom card or the wired Ethernet card.
I can connect to it from the same Laptop on the Vista which is on dual boot on the same laptop.
Further confusing is that I ran Fedora 14 and connected to another SpeedTouch today.
Already checked the Channel on the wireless nic and it's on the same one as the SpeedTouch.
I just upgraded to natty last night, and everything is working fine except for the network manager. I can enable and configure the wireless card via bash, but the network manager widget will not manage the wireless card.
When I first boot up, the "Enable wireless" check box is greyed out. After I enable the card via the terminal, the "Enable wireless" check box becomes ungreyed, but every time I click it, it instantly unchecks itself. I feel like Currly from the Three Stoogies. Check, uncheck, Check, uncheck.. "Slaps face repeatedly."
Can I set 2 addresses for the *1* Ethernet card that I have on my motherboard? How would this scenario work?

I have a Toshiba Satellite L455D-S5976. Brand new. I made a partition and made it dual boot with windows seven and fedora with the newest version from the site. It won't recognize the wireless card. I'm assuming it needs drivers but I don't know where to find drivers so it will recognize.
The wireless does work on the windows side so I know it's not a problem with the wireless card.
I just want know, how two network card in one PC working on fedora. I want try setup router + firewall on my PC. And i need tutorial how is working

I want to buy a wifi card that will, hopefully, be rock stable under my kubuntu 10.04 64 bit. Currently I have TP-Link Atheros card and stability in Linux is horrible. Please DO NOT give me links to compatibility list. Just suggest a network card that is most likely to be stable with least manual tuning effort required.
View 2 Replies View RelatedA group I'm working with recently got new netbooks with Ubuntu Netbook Edition 10.04 and some AT&T LaptopConnect (3G) cards. When I hook them into the usb port, the cards light begins blinking, but nothing shows up to indicate ubuntu has recognized the new card, nor am I able to connect to the internet. My searches for help have indicated no one else has had any difficulty with this and that the card usually pops up and installs some drivers automatically or something.
I'm not sure at the moment the model of the 3G card other than very new, but I can check on that in a bit. The netbooks are HP Mini 210s.
I can not connect via a 3g card (Huawei). It connects on the GPRS and then disconnects, then connects to the GSM and disconnects. Both do so after 5 seconds connection at max. Someone suggested that I update, but I can not connect to internet and the version I am using is Ubuntu 10.04.Checked all the settings with my ISP and all is good, including pin etc.Nothing they can do from that side, and claim that it is a Linux problem.I am sure that they just cant be bothered. It works just fine on XP.Not sure what can be done to fix.

Thinking of getting a wireless pci card for a desktop and I have seen a lot of people have issues with specific wireless cards. Is there a particular card or chipset that will be relatively painless to use?
I have seen this question asked before, but have not seen any replies.
I have encountered an especially annoying problem, and as ever, it concerns wireless.Today a new computer came, and the shop assured me that the wireless card was compatible with my Ubuntu 10.04 64-bit system. Indeed, when I opened the CDROM, I noticed that it explicitly stated that it had Linux drivers therein.
Once I put in the disk and attempted to install them, though, I found that the .tgz file necessary was not there. I went online, but the file I downloaded from REALINK could not be opened !The drive I could not download is RT3562 in a .tgz ...
I want to make a kernel module that its function is like ifup/ifdown. However I could not find any way to do that.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am trying to set up the wireless with the latest version of Ubuntu. I can connect to the internet with the ethernet but wireless connections do not even show up. My wireless card is a Intel WiFi Link 1000 BGN and perhaps that is the problem. I am not sure if that will work. I am also using VMware and perhaps it just doesn't work with VMware.
When I type in iwlist scan it just comes up with: lo interface does not support scanning and eth0 interface does not support scanning. When I search for available drivers it says no proprietary drivers are in use on this system. Then it has VMware virtual ethernet driver and VMware virtual machine communication interface.
I want to use the two huawei 3G modem card simultaneously. Now by using pppd,I can got the PPP connection separately.but when I did them simultaneously, only one can successfully establish the ppp connection, the other will be blocked. If i kill the pppd process which already establish the ppp connection, the blocked one could then connect to the ISP and establish a ppp connection successfully. If I want to use them simultaneously, how should I do.I think maybe my linux only support only one pppinterface
