Networking :: Using Two 3G Modem Card Simultaneously?

Aug 24, 2010

I want to use the two huawei 3G modem card simultaneously. Now by using pppd,I can got the PPP connection separately.but when I did them simultaneously, only one can successfully establish the ppp connection, the other will be blocked. If i kill the pppd process which already establish the ppp connection, the blocked one could then connect to the ISP and establish a ppp connection successfully. If I want to use them simultaneously, how should I do.I think maybe my linux only support only one pppinterface

Ubuntu Networking :: Unable To Use Wi-Fi Card At All / Cant Connect To Wi-Fi Modem

Jul 11, 2010

I am using Linux Mint 9 Gnome: Isadora (since the same Network Manager applet is used in Ubuntu, I am asking the question here too)I was trying to configure my wireless card to connect my PPPoE connection by using the command pppoeconf wlan0 and also pppoeconf.I was not able to dial my PPPoE connection when connected via Wi-Fi. When I restarted my system, in the Network Manager, under Wireless Networks it says "Device not managed". Now I am not able to use my Wi-Fi card at all and cant connect to my Wi-Fi modem.

There is no hardware Wi-Fi switch, only the key combination Fn+F2 to enable or disable the wireless card.I have used the key combination Fn+F2 (which enables or disables the Wi-Fi card) many a times, but the same thing is displayed in the network manager. If I use LiveCD mode and use any distro even Isadora, the Wi-Fi works fine.My ethernet connection is working fine. I can connect to the internet if I connect my modem using Ethernet port.

Networking :: Use Two ISP Lines Simultaneously In Machine?

Nov 29, 2010

I have two ISP Connections from different Providers BSNL and Sify. Both are 1MBps. In my Office Now we are using Sify for Only one Machine and BSNL is configured in wifi router. But Often BSNL network is in problem. So we have planned to use both Sify and BSNL simultaneously. what we have to do is to Make some arrangements either in cabling or in configuring we have to use both the connections simultaneously. without hassle so that the employees will always be on-line. and they may not know in which ISP they are browsing. But the internet should be available always.

We have two servers which has running Redhat 5.5 with two Onboard Ethernet card so totally Four Ethernet cards. And we are using Only linux such as fedora, ubuntu and CentOS in our Office and not windows. And all are connecting to internet by wireless. So please give some ideas to use any linux machine as router or something else that would balance the two ISPs equally, that is if one ISP is down then the other should take up automatically without doing any manual configuration and without buying any proprietary software or any hardware.

Ubuntu Networking :: NFS And Samba Sharing Simultaneously?

Jan 6, 2011

I have a Lucid server with several external (eSATA) NTFS formatted drives. Right now, I'm sharing everything through Samba and administered through Webmin. Partly because I'd like to play with it and learn more and partly to see if there's any appreciable difference in overhead and speed, I'd like to try out NFS.

My question is, can the two sharing schemes (NFS and Samba) coexist on the same box peacefully? If not, I can rid of Samba and go with NFS, but I'd rather give it a shot first.Plus, some of the clients are Windows machines, so I'd have to install the SFU tools in order to get an NFS client on them.

Hardware :: Get Rid Of SD Card Reader Included In 3G Modem?

Mar 4, 2011

I'm using USB 3G modem and it has SD card reader embedded.
I am also using USB hard drive as boot device. It is a Netgear WNDR 3700 router.
I am posting it in here because it is a general question, not really associated with embedded installations.
When loading the system from power up my HDD get's /dev/sda assigned and my modem SD card reader: /dev/sdb [although there's no SD card inserted].
But when booting after restart hard drive is sdb and modem is sda. Thanks to that I get kernel panic and all is over. I have to manually reboot.
I cannot use initrdfs so I can't use UUID/LABEL to identify the device.
Is there any way I could stop this SD card reader from loading?
I believe it uses usb mass storage driver, just as my hdd.

This is from the boot log Code...

Ubuntu Networking :: Member Of All Groups Communicate Simultaneously With ALL Computers?

Aug 27, 2010

given my computer is in a network consisting of multiple subnetworks, i.e. there are groups of computers: {192.168.1.1, 192.168.1.2, 192.168.1.3 etc.}, {192.168.2.1, 192.168.2.2, 192.168.2.3 etc.},..., {192.168.254.1, 192.168.254.2, 192.168.254.3 etc.}. My computer is 192.168.1.1. So I can communicate with 192.168.1.2, 192.168.1.3 etc. To communicate with other people I have manually switch to the proper subnetwork and take a new ip, e.g. 192.168.2.1. My question is: Is there any way to be member of all groups and communicate simultaneously with ALL computers? And if not, is there a way to find out (without manually changing the ip address) if computers of other subnetworks are online, so one does not have to change the ip and then look for other computers in the new subnetwork?

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Setting Up Of Analog Fax/Modem Card - Internal - Options ?

Nov 27, 2010

I just started messing around with openSUSE 11.3 (64-bit version, KDE environment).

My desktop computer has an internal fax/modem card (PCI version, mod. USR5610C). I am very confident that this card works with Linux and U.S. Robotics guarantees that much on their web site.

I connect to the Internet via DSL but I am attempting to set up the internal analog modem card as a back up should the DSL line be temporarily down. I went to YaST -> Modem and I see that my card was detected as "U.S. ROBOTICS 56K FAX INT Modem Not configured". I pressed Edit and the Modem Parameters page says that the device is in "/dev/ttyS4". I am not sure that this is indeed where the modem is located (is there a way to make sure?) but I accepted it and proceeded to entering the name of my Internet service provider, the access phone number, user name, and password. So far, so good -- I think!

Eventually, I come to a window where YaST2 wants to install the following:
* jack Jack-Audio Connection Kit v. 1.9.5-2.8
* smpppd SuSE Meta PPP Daemon v. 1.60.46-1.1.1

So far I have not installed them because of the Jack-Audio Connection Kit software. Do I really need to install it in order to get the modem working? The reason I am being careful is that I just spent weeks and weeks in trying to get my audio card (ASUS Xonar DX 7.1, PCI-E) to work with openSUSE and I sure do not want to mess things up and start all over again!

How to set up an analog modem with openSUSE 11.3?

Ubuntu Networking :: Cable Modem Networking - Can't Connect To Each Other On The Home Network

Feb 14, 2010

I just got connected to Charter Cable Internet service a few days ago and I'm having a weird problem with my home network. Prior to this my network worked fine. On my network I have a desktop running Ubuntu 9.10/64 and Virtualbox with WinXP installed, an HTPC with Ubuntu 9.10/32 installed and a laptop dual booted with Ubuntu 9.10/32 and WinXP. The desktop and HTPC are hard wired to a wireless router and the laptop is wireless. The cable modem is hard wired to the router. I have samba installed and UFW is disabled. The problem is: with the cable modem turned off or on standby, all machines connect to each other and can transfer files, etc just fine but when I activate the cable modem all of the machines can connect to the Internet but the machines running Ubuntu can't connect to each other on the home network. If I boot the laptop into Windows, it can connect to the Linux machines just fine but if I boot it into Linux, it won't connect to the Linux machines but it can connect to the Internet and as far as the desktop, Ubuntu won't connect to the network but Windows running in the Virtualbox with bridged networking can connect to all of the machines.

I am able to find the network I want to connect to, and type in the password since the network is secured. It tries to connect but then pops up again asking for the password (I know it is correct). Is this card supported by linux/compatible? I tried finding drivers online but the sites that had drivers were down.

Hardware :: USB Modem P300U Not Recognized As Modem Under Debian?

Jun 17, 2011

I have this USB modem P300U(SIM600 chip based) which works fine under wind@ws because it has it's own driver, but the clever seller told me that it worked under Linux as well. It was with Redhat 8 but I couldn't get redhat 8 to download. And until now absolutely false.

I have Debian with Kernel 2.6.32-5-686 I just want to send sms through this modem. It's not recognized as modem I'm frustrated because it's not useful for me if it doesn't work on Linux I looked for info but I can't make it work. What I get in my debian is:

CentOS 5 :: Modem AT Commands To Internal Modem?

May 20, 2010

I have a Centos 5.4 server running kernel 2.6.18-164.11.1.el5PAE. It has an internal modem, and I need to be able to issue AT commands from a script to the modem. I need to simply dial a number and hang up. The relevant piece of my script is:

[Code]...

With an external modem, this works no problem. With an INTERNAL modem, the call never goes out. I fired up minicom to make sure the modem was working correctly, and if I issue those AT commands from within minicom, everything works great.

While minicom was running, I noticed a peculiar fact: WHILE minicom is running, the script works from the command line, and I can see all the AT commands and OK's in minicom, (minicom acts as a monitor). When I exit minicom, the script stops working. It appears minicom is creating a bridge between the com port and the modem itself. So, what is minicom doing that I'm unaware of?

The server's sole function is to run asterisk as a voicemail server (avaya wanted well into 6 figure territory to implement this....). This script is to dial an avaya FAC to turn the voicemail message lights on and off on the end users' phones.

Fedora Networking :: ZTE USB Modem Not Being Recognized?

Nov 20, 2009

I have installed the KDE spin and am liking it so far. Except for the fact that I cannot get onto the internet. I rely on this ZTE USB wireless modem for internet and that just would not get recognized in Fedora. Plus, my Windows installation is down and I would love to keep it that way if at all possible.

I have followed a few instructions on this particular problem. I have modified the menu.lst file to account for the usbmodserial and product. The usb_modeswitch program has also been installed and the usb_modeswitch.conf file has been edited with the values I got from the 'lsusb' command's output.

But the curious thing is that when I actually execute the usb_modeswitch command, I get a message saying that there are no drivers for the ZTE device. Which means that I cannot go onto the wvdialconf part of it at all. Basically at this point I dont have a modem, according to Fedora. But it does get recognized as a ZTE device. That tells me that there is something right about what I have done so far and may only need to do a few tweaks here and there.

PS - I am based out of India and this is a Tata Indicom Photon (NOT Photon Plus) connection for which I have a USB device which acts as a modem.
