Ubuntu Networking :: Replace Broad Wireless Card

Aug 22, 2010

I have been using Broadcam Wi-Fi cards for years and always have problems getting them to work well with Linux. Not too long ago ( 6 months) I replaced my broadcom card with an Intel Pro/Wireless 4965 card. Wi-fi is 1000% better now. Connects very well and well connect to systems that I could not ever see before. So I said get an Intel card and toss your Broadcom card away and start demanding that your next computer have an Intel card as these cards have native support in the Linux kernel.

Ubuntu :: Dell Xps Iw3945 Wireless Card Replace?

Dec 21, 2010

I have a dell XPS m1530 which I think has an Intel wireless card (iw3945 i think). It's been giving me intermittent troubles since I bought it a few years ago, but never that bad.Recently it's been getting worse, and since ubuntu doesn't have the in-depth tools that windows vista did for resetting the wireless adaptor, it's been more trouble since switching.

I'm thinking of replacing the card altogether. I'd like to know if it's possible to remove and replace it for my laptop, and what kind of card would fit and work well with ubuntu. What would you guys recommend?PS- looking around the net it seems like this card has a lot of issues, is this just a badly made wireless card?

Ubuntu Networking :: Connect To Mobile Broad Band Using Terminal?

Oct 4, 2010

is there a command (set of) which i could use to connect my USB modem while in recovery mode?

what happened?

well, i tried installing Drivers for my ATI VGA and then uninstaled them (in order to install the edgers drivers). soon after the reboot i found out my key board n mouse is not recognized in GUI.

i found a little work around here

Quote:

That means that you do have keyboard in that mode & there are no seriously misconfigured packages. It's the 'netroot' menu selection & don't use 'sudo' in that mode as you are in a root shell. And while there, ensure that you have established a connection (ping [URL]), and then:

# ping ubuntu.com
[if this works, then proceed with the rest]
# apt-get update
# apt-get upgrade
# apt-get install -f

Networking :: Broad Networking - Video - VOIP And Backups

Jun 12, 2009

My home networking consists of a slackware box, running iptables with a dual NIC. That's the firewall. I have a Netgear FSM 7352S, which is a level 3 switch, which I am currently just using as a switch. Clients are numerous PCs and a couple of networked printers.

The "firewall" machine is also a file server.

Here are the issues I could use some pointers on:

I'd like to assure that the VOIP adapters get priority, assuring QOS, particularly voice quality.

I'd like to provide reasonable priority for video streaming, such as hulu and other sources, that the kids use.

I'd like bulk data transfers (like backing up partitions) to the file server that runs iptables, and acts as the firewall/gateway for a cable internet connection. It would be good to be able to do this without impacting VOIP and video streaming.

Ubuntu Networking :: Connecting A Modem Router With A Mobile Broad Band Umts Connection?

Feb 17, 2011

sometimes our ADSL connection gives up and we are left without internet connection for days until the problem gets fixed. I mean by this problem along the phone line. It affects all machines that connect to the internet through a Netgear WIFI Modem Router. I recently tried an alternative when this happens is to use a USB Huawei Mobile Broadband UMTS connection which works when you insert it in 1 laptop. Is there a way i could get the Netgear WIFI modem router to connect on that usb stick or PC that is online on that usb stick and give access to other machines that will want to connect to the web ?

Dec 4, 2010

Just installed Fedora 14 from the Live CD i686 on my Dell Inspiron 1521. I can't connect to the SpeedTouch 585 on either wireless broadcom card or the wired Ethernet card.

I can connect to it from the same Laptop on the Vista which is on dual boot on the same laptop.

Further confusing is that I ran Fedora 14 and connected to another SpeedTouch today.

Already checked the Channel on the wireless nic and it's on the same one as the SpeedTouch.

Those are my authentication capabilities, obviously. I am using a WEP encryption for my wireless router and according to this, it will not allow me to connect. Is there anyway to allow that? The wireless card works just fine in Windows, even on the same network encryption type. Using a Intel Wireless/Pro 4965 ag. Note* this is my mother's router and whatnot. Ubuntu Networking :: Tenda W322P Wireless Card Crashing Wireless Router On Connect

Jun 30, 2011

I installed a Tenda W322P wireless card in my dual-boot PC running both Windows XP and Ubuntu 11.04. The card worked straight out of the box on XP, but does not function correctly under Ubuntu. My apologies for any missing/irrelevant information, I am having to post this from the Windows boot so the Ubuntu settings are not directly available at the same time as internet access.I followed the process detailed here htURL...to install and configure the driver (I believe from reading other sites that this card is the Ralink RT3062 chipset), blacklisted the original RT2860 driver that was in use (couldn't even get the card to scan for wireless networks with the default driver) and restarted the interface.

Since then, sudo iwlist scan can find my wireless router but when I attempt to connect to it, it seems to enter a loop of requesting the WEP key then pausing for a while before re-requesting the key. I know I have the key value correct because it is copied and pasted from the same text file I used to copy and paste into the passkey field on the Windows boot. Attempting to connect to the router using Ubuntu also has the rather unfortunate side-effect of crashing the wireless router, killing off all other device connections until the router has been reset.

After I enable the card via the terminal, the "Enable wireless" check box becomes ungreyed, but every time I click it, it instantly unchecks itself. I feel like Currly from the Three Stoogies. Networking :: Setting Up Linux Box As IPv6 Router To Replace Netgear WNR1000 Wireless Router?

Jun 18, 2011

I want to set up a Linux box as a wireless router to replace our existing Netgear WNR1000 router, as I believe the Netgear does not support the coming IPv6 protocol. Unfortunately, it is not flashable with OpenWRT or DD-WRT presently.

As we have Comcast, our cable modem acts as a dumb modem according to the customer support guy I talked to, and our router is the one that asks for the IP address from DHCP. Thus, when Comcast switches over to IPv6, I don't believe my existing router would work, correct?

My idea is to take a Linux box and put two NICs and a wireless adapter in it, using IPCop or Smoothwall to set up a router. I could then enable IPv6 support for when we have IPv6 with Comcast. Is that possible? Would there be a way to get BIND to hand out private IP addresses in the same subnet on the both the LAN NIC and the wireless card?

Moving this to new topic, since it's no longer under wireless connectivity issues. [Noob Warning] I was having trouble getting Ubuntu to recognize my wireless card, as I have changed from the 3965 that came in my computer to the 4965, which added increased range and G band. Anyway, I read one of the threads on here, and this was the advice given:
