Ubuntu Networking :: Locks Up When Enabling Wireless?

Apr 19, 2011

I've been having an issue for the last day or so. I have an HP Pavilion dv8000 running 10.10. Whenever I boot with the Wireless activated, it will lock about 3-4 seconds into the log-in screen (I'm guessing when it connects to my router). If I have the wireless deactivated (like now), I am able to use the ethernet connection, or (like now) use my phone to tether internet. But, as soon as I click the wireless to active, locks up. The wireless activity light flashes, but that's all.

I'm pretty good about updating whenever I use my laptop, but I think something in the most recent update may have broken my wireless connection.

Ubuntu Networking :: Flaky Wireless Since Enabling WPA2

Oct 26, 2010

I've got a BCM 4312 card on a Dell laptop running 10.04 and an Apple Airport network. Since I configured the Airport to use "WPA2 Personal" Authentication, my connection is flaky: it drops for no apparent reason and sometimes I can't connect at all. When authentication is turned off, the connection is rock solid.

Here's an example from the syslog of a failed attempt to connect:

Code:
Oct 26 19:31:24 firefly NetworkManager: <info> Activation (eth1) starting connection 'Auto Rittenhouse'
Oct 26 19:31:24 firefly NetworkManager: <info> (eth1): device state change: 3 -> 4 (reason 0)

General :: Wireless Networking - Use Mint To Act As A Router?

Oct 7, 2010

Can I use Mint as a Router service, similar to the service in Ubuntu (called: Router Advertisement Daemon?). Does Mint support this and what solutions are available for this?

Have dabbled in Linux very briefly, but almost no experience on how to install or find programs, so please explain in detail!

EDIT: I'm looking for something easy and simple, like what Virtual Router or Connectify does for Windows 7...

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Not Working In Mint 9 KDE?

Oct 28, 2010

I used to run Linux Mint GNOME on my laptop. There was never a problem. I'd connect my Desktop wireless adapter to it and then install the broadcom drivers with ease.

Today I decided to give KDE a try so I installed Linux Mint 9 KDE. All is fine except for the wireless drivers. I get this message in 'Hardware Drivers' window "Sorry, installation of this driver failed. Please have a look at the log file for details: /var/log/jockey.log".

I have noticed that there are not as many Servers available in LM KDE as there are in Ubuntu. Could this be the problem? The drivers are actually not available to download?

General :: Wireless Networking - Wi-Fi Connection Download Speed Is Cut In Half In Mint?

Sep 19, 2011

I have a pretty decent DSL connection that usually gave me about 105KB/second download speed over wifi. The "official" download speed was 1.5 megabits so I should have been getting a bit more, but that's not my question.

I recently switched to Mint from Ubuntu. Now my download speed is significantly slower, to the tune of 45 KB/second. Since the connection runs at normal speed when I connect via an ethernet cable, my guess is that mint doesn't give enough power to the wifi card. Is there any way I can fix that?

Ubuntu Networking :: No Internet Connection Mint 8 - Won't Connect With My Wireless Router

Feb 12, 2010

I have just installed Linux Mint 8 to an Asus A6000. My problem is that the computer won't connect with my wireless router. I have tried with MAC-adress and such, but still no respons. I also tried to connect with a cable to my modem, but no response there either.

I think I may lack some drivers, to what I think is Broadcom b43, but I am not sure. I tried to download the drivers on my other computer, and transfered them to the Asus. I managed to install 2/4 drivers, but on the two others, I get this message "Failed to fetch ... Couldn't reach archive.ubuntu.com"

Ubuntu Networking :: Enabling Non-internet LAN Makes Internet Over Wireless Stop Working

I am trying to connect my desktop to my laptop over a non-internet connected LAN, but when i enable the LAN connection on my desktop (the one with the wireless) its internet stops working.

it is a very similar problem to this except that i am using ubuntu for the machine with the two connections.

right now i have my wireless on the 192.168.1.* address space, while the LAN is to be on 192.168.5.*

note: my goal is not to share internet with my laptop, just be able to connect to it and the internet at the same time.

Fedora :: Enabling Wireless Without Rebooting?

Nov 18, 2010

My laptop (as many others) has a hardware switch which turns wireless/bluetooth disabled. If after booting up the system I switch on this key, the wireless would still remain disabled and I need to reboot the system to be able to connect to any network.

I have tried

Code:
rfkill unblock all
ifconfig wlan0 up

Is there any way to activate wireless without rebooting the system?

Ubuntu :: Wireless Needs Enabling On Boot?

Nov 3, 2010

After my previous stint with 10.10 I've gone back to 10.04 because it boots in 20 seconds instead of 70+ and 10.10 didn't really seem to offer much new stuff that I need. Except one thing. When 10.10 boots, it automatically connects to whatever wireless network is set to Auto. 10.04 however, doesn't. I have to right click the tray applet and click on "Enable Wireless" and only then does it connect to the Auto networks. After a reboot, it's forgotten that I've clicked on "Enable Wireless" and I have to do it all over again.

I've found this thread that seems to describe the same problem and the only working suggesting is to use wicd instead of network-manager.

Does anybody know of a way to make it work using network manager? Do you know what command clicking on "Enable Wireless" runs - if I could just run that in an init script, problem solved. I thought it would be; ifconfig wlan0 up but that doesn't seem to do anything at all (wlan0 is definitely the right adapter)

Debian Hardware :: Enabling Wireless Card Via Command Line?

Sep 14, 2010

I have a netbook and the wireless card on it works fine. Whenever I wake it up after suspending for couple of hours, it seems like the wireless card is not awaking or the drivers are not working properly because I do not see any wireless networks after waking it up(for example in Wicd). If I do fresh restart, the wireless and wireless networks come back at the same place. So I am wondering if it is possible to restart the wireless card or the driver without restarting my netbook

General :: BM4321 Wireless Chip Won't Load On Boot In Mint / Solution For This?

Jun 8, 2011

I have a Realtek WN511b wireless card with a BM4321 chip.
It runs on the wl driver but when I boot the system the card won't install.
With help (I am noob) we have figured out that the ssb and the b43 drivers are installing even though I have them blacklisted. I have seen similar problems described elsewhere but no real fixes.
I can boot the system (Dell d630) then pop the card out and re-insert, enter password and it connects no problem.
It would be nice if it simply installed on boot.
Wondering if anyone had a solution?

ie, it does not detect any wireless networks nearby, althought there are tons of them.

Restarting the wireless device doesnt help, I have to restart my computer at least 4 times for wireless to start working again.

And as of now, my wireless in Linux Mint has stopped working.

Networking :: Ethtool Not Properly Enabling WOL?

Nov 25, 2008

I'm having problems enabling Wake-on-LAN using ethtool.I'm using ethtool 5.1 on Fedora 8. Ethtool reports that the card supports u,m,b,g for WOL modes. I can run "ethtool -s eth0 wol g", which completes without errors. If I run ethtool again, the Wake-on setting is changed to whatever I just set it to. However, when I actually shutdown the machine, the lights on the NIC don't stay on as they normally should, and any attempts to wake the machine have no effect. The machine dual-boot Windows XP, and I have enabled WOL in the driver there. When I shutdown the machine from XP, everything works just fine. The NIC lights remain on and the machine wakes up properly. So...I think I have my BIOS configured properly, and my WOL utility is working properly.
