Networking :: Cannot Ping Gateway Or Access Router Administrator Page

Jan 22, 2009

Presently this client access the net through following setup
ADSL modem -> hub -> all computers

Now they want to do some kind of bandwidth control, content filtering. So I tried setting up squid with dansguardian. This is what I did
ADSL -> linux server -> all computers.

The linux server has two NIC cards. One to the ADSL router and another to the local hub. This is how my squid.conf file looks like

http_port 3128
acl ubc src 192.168.1.0/255.255.255.0 (for subnet)
http_access allow ubc

Have set the gateway server as 121.x.x.1. Which is the gateway server of the ISP. Now I can ping the local network, but cant ping the gateway or any other website. Also I am unable to access the router administration page.

Networking :: Connection Manager System In Network

Sep 18, 2010

I just wanted to know what's your opinion on my problem.I have few linux servers that can be located on any place in the world, only port 22 is open. At my office I need connection to every server, but every server must be isolated from every server.So by now I worked only with ssh authorization by username and password. What seems to be preferable ?.

1 Going on working with ssh with authorization.
2 working with ssh but with adding keys
3 start to work with vpn

So if I am keeping use ssh with authorization I need something that will change password every month only for security working with ssh key, it seems like key depends on gateway where key created so if change gateway I lost connection using vpn sounds good but in this case I mush isolate servers from each other.The best solution I think is combination of any two methods

Networking :: Network Not Working In Gateway System

Jan 7, 2009

I have a network gateway system which runs redhat 7 (2.2.16)
Firewall running is ipchains
Internal network is eth0 192.168.5.1
External network is eth1 99.99.99.98 (example add)

My problem when I change the static address of the external network from 99.99.99.99 to 99.99.99.98 I am not able to connect to internet. From my preliminary investigation ip is not binded to network card., but I am not sure, is there a way to check binding accurately
Below is the ifcfg-eth1 file contents

DEVICE="eth1"
USERCTL=no
ONBOOT="yes"
BOOTPROTO="none"
NETMASK="255.255.255.0"
IPADDR="99.99.99.99"
IPXNETNUM_802_2=""
IPXPRIMARY_802_2="no"
IPXACTIVE_802_2="no"
IPXNETNUM_802_3=""
IPXPRIMARY_802_3="no"
IPXACTIVE_802_3="no"
IPXNETNUM_ETHERII=""
IPXPRIMARY_ETHERII="no"
IPXACTIVE_ETHERII="no"
IPXNETNUM_SNAP=""
IPXPRIMARY_SNAP="no"
IPXACTIVE_SNAP="no"

I have updated the address change in ipchains firewall scripts. Before IP change network was work fine with this firewall scripts.

I've been running F10 since it first came out, and I was happy to see it was the first Fedora release that automatically recognized my Atheros wireless card. I have to run system-config-network and press the "activate" button when I start the machine, but that's ok and no big deal. But today, for whatever reason,in system-config-network, the "activate" and "deactivate" buttons are grayed out and I cannot start the device so I have no network access. When I boot the machine into Windows, it works fine.

Ubuntu Networking :: System Generating Lot Of Network Traffic

Apr 4, 2011

I am running Ubuntu 10.10, upgraded a few weeks ago from 10.04. I noted from the system monitor that the system was generating a lot of network traffic, on the order of 10Mbps if the information is correct (using system monitor and iftop). From the process table, it appears that smbd is accumulating a lot of CPU time, which sort of makes sense as I use Samba for printing from a Windows 7 laptop. But the traffic seems to be making a round trip as I just rebooted the system and it reports in about 10 minutes of uptime 1.2GB was send and 1.2GB was received. Laptop is used for work, it is sitting idle for the last 30 minutes (VPN connection, etc); no backup or other interaction with the Ubuntu system.

Ubuntu Networking :: Network Manager - System Connection Is Disabled

- a wired network
- a wireless network
- a mobile broadband network as both "system connection" and "automatic connection".

I need to have a laptop that will try to connect as sson as I plug the ethernet cable in or as soon as it senses a certain SSID or as soon as there's a mobile broadband device plugged into a USB port. Non-system connections are working but I am not willing the actual user (non-admin) to read the WPA2 key or the SIM PIN. But the check box for the system connection is disabled. And running "sudo kcmshell4 --icon networkmanager kcm_networkmanagement kcm_networkmanagement_tray" doesn't result in a system connection.
