I'm about to attempt to upgrade gtk+2 from the current 2.14 to 2.16 to fulfill a requirement for devede, I'm planning on using the slackbuild from slackware/l/gtk+2 and just editing the version. I think this approach will work but I was hoping to get some feedback (and any warnings or advice) before I dive in - obviously I will back up before hand.

When running MUTT on a RHEL 5.4 box, I get the message:

I choose "accept always", but the same message appears next time. I do not wish to have a certificate requirement for MUTT and did not intentionally set the program up to include this feature. How can I get rid of it? My second choice would be to get a new certificate, but then I have to go through this every year. I have MUTT working on two other servers and this does not happen.
I am relatively new to Fedora and appreciate it is intended to be a bleeding/leading edge distribution but the continual requests to reboot the computer after updates is intrusive and seems rather odd for a unix operating system. It is often not clear to me why it is necessary when I look at the names of the items triggering the request.

I just compiled and installed the 2.6.37-autogroup kernel from AUR on my ARCH setup and I like it especially when using firefox with lots of tabs open and other background apps also running. I did notice a speed and smothness difference in my ARCH testing setup with this kernel patch and I can get same results in 13.1??

View 1 Replies View RelatedI upgraded from F11(x86_64) to F12 with no reported errors. (expected an update session to follow, but it didn't.)
Tried a manual "yum update" and it aborted with a notice that libssl.so.8 was not found (required by python-2.6.2). I didn't find anything useful at wiki.linux.duke.edu/YumFaq.
The DVD installs python-2.6.2-2 (8/21/09) and openssl-1.0.0-0.10.beta3 (10/16/09). /usr/lib/libssl.so.10 is a symbolic link to libssl.1.0.0. libssl.so.8 is not found, really.
I thought of replacing openssl with one from F11 but it was required by too many packages - couldn't remove.
I tried to find a later rpm of python, but couldn't locate any Fedora directories with individual packages.
I've searched the web and the forums. What am I missing?
I have an Acer Aspire netbook with 1GB RAM and 1.6 GHz dual-core 32-bit x86 chips. The KPackageKit / yum / rpm chain is running too slow for me. In addition to the time required to download any new packages or updates, it seems to require at least one full minute of processing time to install each package, update, or bug fix, no matter how small. Another full minute is consumed for each package in "cleaning up."Running yum from the command line takes nearly the same amount of time.During this time, I cannot run any other applications without severe thrashing. It seems that a full gigabyte of memory is in use with some 100M swapped out to disk.
Is there any way to reduce the running time and memory requirement of the update process?While not updating or installing software, I do not normally run out of memory (i.e. begin thrashing) until I have about a dozen browser tabs open, or the like.

Now I have a user in the outside, and he wants to connect to a mysql in a certain machine (Not the gateway), prerouting rules solve my problems, but all the packages from the inside users goes now to that certain machine. I would like something like if the package passed trough masquerade don't pass trough the prerouting rule, and if it come from the outside (Not a package that come from a petition from the inside) pass trough the prerouting rule.

I need to be able to ausearch and find if any of the above failed attempts exist. However, upon testing any and all of the above, a failed audit does not appear in the /var/log/audit/audit.log file. Supposedly, the nispom.rules file that comes with Red Hat is designed to accomplish this requirement.
The nispom.rules file was copied from /usr/share/doc/audit-1.5.5/nispom.rules to /etc/audit/audit.rules and has NOT been modified.
Our audit version is: audit-1.5.5-7.el5. We verified that the audit.rules files is being read by placing a syntax error in the file. An error message was returned which confirms that the file is being read.

Many large and huge files are copied between internal and external hard disks, and at the same time I am doing some office work and have a bunch of photos processed in a batch job.Looking at the system monitor, I can, however, see, that both CPU cores of my dual core processor are used heavily. But RAM beyond 2 GB is rarely used. Typically the maximum used RAM is 2 GB, no matter, how many files are copied and so on. Is this normal? I think, some of the tasks could be accomplished a lot faster, if the available RAM was used.

First, I noticed there are 1 to 4 messages per second in my messages.1 through messages.4 files in /var/log going back to September 27. It probably started before then, but I don't have older logs.
There almost nothing else in the messages log but these messages, millions of them. They look like these:

I save my whole system to a .tar.gz file weekly except for the /proc content. I have used this backup a few times to restore my system without issue.
Last time I restored, I discovered the following 2 issues I home somebody can explain:
#1: while extracting the .tar.gz using tar xzvf filename.tar.gz, I get the following error near the end of the restore process "tar: Incorrect Length". This error only occurs when I boot the system with the slackware 12.1 disc 1 CD. It does not occur if I try to restore from my working system, same file. Other than this, everything seems to be restored properly and the system boots up properly. I am just concerned by the meaning of this error.
#2: After restore, I do lilo -C /mnt/etc/lilo.conf to make sure the systems boots up properly. This works... however, I have discovered that just this won't make module autoloading work after the restore. When booting the restored system, no module autoload !
I have correct this by just entering setup when booted up using the slackware 12.1 disk 1 CD and going thru addswap, set target without format and the going thru the configuration menu and cancelling all question.
Why would modules not load automatically ?
The dynamic static package on skype is a 32 bit package, how can I get this to run with my 64 bit system?
