View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an USB (Huawei 1751) modem for mobile broadband. I had it up and running in Ubuntu 9.10 but I had to clear the computer for various reasons. I have decided to only use LTS versions so for the reinstall I have used Ubuntu 8.04 LTS. I have downloaded and installed usb_modeswitch and can see that the modes is changed to the right value. After that I wanted to add a new mobile broadband connection in the network connections wizzard - but cannot see any settings for mobile broadband. I am sure it must be possible - but where is this function hidden in version 8.04 ?

I filled in the details such as IP, Netmask, Gateway and even DNS servers. In the services also I ensured that the network manager services is on. However even though my computer cannot connect to the internet. I then tried the ping test of the modem from the address 192.168.1.1 and found that the ping test is successful. Then i tried the network administrator and there I noticed something unusual.
There are two options in the devices eth0 and eth1 thats ok but the unusual; thing is that the Activate (green button), Deactivate (red button) and even the delete buttons are in the background and I cannot select them. Isthis the problem for the network connectivity.

I had Windows XP working. I then put in a new hard disk and installed Redhat 5 on it. rom then i could only boot into Redhat. Further, everyting is very slow. Anothe rproblem is that Redhat does not see my netwrok so I cannot get onto the Internet. I need to have the choice of booting into XP or Redhat.

View 3 Replies View RelatedIm able to use nm-applet just fine to setup broadband card. Its a Sprint Sierra 598u. Im running Fedora 10 KDE version. Anyone know how to get it working? i tried the setup process but all it tells me is set up GPS or CDMA so i go CDMA for mine, but then it has some default name, and no providers, as the UBUNTU version did at least...i setup best i can but then after closing configs, i go to nm-applet icon in bottom-right and it doesn't show the mobile broadband connection, also any wireless connections don't work for some reason, but DO show up. just wont connect (which i got every so often when using ubuntu on the machine, was usually a switch off or restart away from fine

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have just switched to Ubuntu from Win 7 RC. So far its been fun, learning to use terminal and all. But I have got a problem now I cannot find a solution to.
I am using 3 Mobile Broadband. The thing just worked - I plugged it in, created a new connection, modified config a little and was happily browsing.
However, it started acting out yesterday. When I boot the system with the modem plugged in, the USB stick is recignised and NetworkManager starts connecting (I have auto connect on). It then shows the "connected" message, and generally appears working fine.
On the other hand, I cannot open a single page in Firefox, it shows the default server not found page.
I used the approach Windows taught me: close, open, retry. I unmount the 3 Mobile Broadband drive, pull the modem out and reconnect it. NetworkManager then does it's job and this time everything works.
I nether had this problem in Win7 or Vista. It looks to me something goes wrong during the booting when the modem is plugged in.
I have bought reliance netconnect broadband+ 3.1 Mbps connection. I am provided Huawai EC1260 device to make the connection.But using ubuntu 9.1 I am not able to make the connection work. I have tested the device in windows XP and it's working fine there. I don't want to use windows and desperate to establish the connection in Ubuntu 9.1.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have cricket wireless broadband and the starcom um100 usb stick. It reconized it when I first put it in and was able to set it up. I connect to the internet and I am able to go to one or two pages before it freezes on me.
I ran the lshw -C network code and this is what I got it doesnt see my wireless
When I connect my wireless it does see it when I ran the lsusb code ( it didn't see it before when I didn't have it connected)

I decided to give 10.04 a shot, and upon first boot, I was able to setup and use my Rogers Rocket mobile broadband stick. When I rebooted, I found that it was in the network settings, but I was unable to connect, nor did it show up as an option in the drop-menu. I played with the terminal trying to see if anything was wrong, but everything seems normal, which is to say I don't even know what I'm looking for in regards to this type of connection.
I obviously know now that it works, I just don't know what made it stopped for the time being. I'm thinking of doing a fresh install over the current partition, and trying to work the issue from there.
I recently made a clean install of Ubuntu 10.04 and my mobile broadband no longer works. When I plug it in, the set-up wizard does not appear, and even when I run the wizard manually, the modem is not recognised. I know the modem works as when the laptop ran 9.10 it all worked perfectly.
For the record, it is a Huawei E1550 and has 3 Mobile Broadband Pay-as-you-go.
After googling "Virgin wireless broadband"+Ubuntu I got two posts on seperate websites that advised changing APN to VirginBroadband from Virgininternet whcih I did and also followed the advice of one of the aforementioned posts to disable all Authentication Methods except PAP, I still haven't been able to connect although the machine is obviously trying to. So should I try enableing other Authentication Methods, or could it be a hardware or some other problem?

I'm still hoping to get that working, but in the mean time, I've actually started to think about perhaps getting a mobile broadband card from a US provider separate from my blackberry anyway - preferably one that works right out of box with Ubuntu.
Does anyone here have any recommendations? I know there's a lot of compatible devices, but maybe someone here can recommend a provider (I don't have to stick with Verizon - willing to go AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, etc.) and a USB mobile broadband device that'll work pretty smoothly?
I tried ubuntu and am very happy with the smooth running and clean interface. I am having trouble setting up my network connections. It seems that I am unable to connect to the internet via my broadband modem if I am connected to my LAN via wifi. I think I need to seperate the networks so that the internet traffic does look on the lan for [URL]. I don't think I have had this problem when I used much smaller distros where I had to set it up by hand.
I might need to add some details I am just not sure what is relevant. I only have a basic understanding of what is going on.

In network connections in the ipv4 settings tab I edited routes by clicking the button and checked the box next to: "use this connection only for resources on its network"
