Ubuntu :: When Click On Networking Icon In System Tray - Says Networking Disabled

Jul 13, 2010

I do have internet cause I am using it on W7. The only thing that I have done different is I left the pc on over night so I guess it went to suspend for the first time. Then I powered off. After turning the pc back on and logging in I have no internet. Not even with the Ethernet plugged directly in. There is supposed to be a little blue light on when it sees the wireless and that is off. When I click on the networking icon in the system tray it says networking disabled. It shows no wireless. When I plug directly in I still get nothing. I'm using 10.04

Ubuntu :: Second Monitor Disabled After Restart / Enable This?

Feb 14, 2010

I've recently installed a second monitor and it's great having all that extra space.

However, Ubuntu 'loses' the new monitor after a restart and I have to go into System>Preferences>Display and get the second monitor re-enabled and put to the left of my existing monitor. Quick flicker and the second monitor is on.

I don't really want to have to do this every day so am I missing something so my second monitor is remembered?

Ubuntu :: Remote Connection Disabled On Restart?

Apr 30, 2010

I had this issue in 9.04, resolved it in 9.10 (it went away on its own), but it's back in 10.04..I currently run my Ubuntu machine as a headless server and connect to it using TightVNC from a Windows computer. However, this connection won't work unless I start the Ubuntu machine with a monitor connected. Once that's done, the remote connection works fine until the Ubuntu machine has to be restarted. Thankfully Linux doesn't need restarting as much as Windows does, but unfortunately, every time I restart (i.e. with a kernel update, which happened at least a half-dozen times with 9.10), I have to plug the monitor in or TightVNC won't be able to connect.

System - Control Centre - Remote Desktop is set to allow remote connections as it should, I haven't altered this on upgrade. It's like it's some sort of graphics issue - if no monitor is detected on startup, disable the GUI completely...the system runs fine in remote terminal mode over putty, it's serving files fine and running the few server apps I have on it, but nothing over TightVNC.

Ubuntu Servers :: Disabled Press CONTROL-X To Restart Shell

Apr 30, 2010

I'm setting up an Ubuntu server and I keep getting strange problems with my editor.I'm not sure if this is because my keyboard configuration is wrong or I screwed up the installation but regardless it's quite frustrating.

When using the movement keys (arrows and numpad) I get "[" brackets and "C"s, if I hold down or push down on the key hard a list of errors and text comes up, usually involving something that says something like:"Mount disabled" or "____ disabled press CONTROL-X to restart the shell"Similair problems are also found in vi (when in insert mode).I have been plagued with text editor problems and have need several reboots just to get out of a file, often because it just flat out stopped responding to keyboard commands.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Is Disabled On 9.10?

Jul 16, 2010

I cannot seem to enable my wireless connection in 9.10. I know that the connection WAS WORKING maybe a month or so ago. However, 99% of the time I am wired.I am using a BCM4312 It shows up in lspci The drivers are loaded (wl, lib80211 and lib80211_crypt_tkip) If I look at System->Administration->Hardware Drivers the Broadcom STA driver is active. dmesg says that the interface is eth1 but then moves it to eth2 If I click on the network icon in the panel I have options for connecting to eth0 (wired lan which works fine) but under "Wireless Networks" it says "Wireless is disabled" in gray.

Ubuntu Networking :: Disabled After Using / Installing VPN?

Aug 7, 2011

Everything was working fine today and for many days before today. (this is a pretty fresh install of 10.10 Maverick).

I installed a VPN connection (PPTP) to connect to work.

That worked fine. i connected, remoted into the machine I wanted and did what I had to do.

I was ABOUT to disconnect from the VPN and when I clicked on the network manager icon BAM it said DISCONNECTED. saved me another click or 2. But now I have no networking at all.

The network manager icon says "Networking disabled"

I tried: warm booting a couple times cold booting a couple times

I also tried:

Code:
service restart networking
and
Code:
sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart

[Code].....

I would really just like to delete/uninstall anything that has to do with VPN's and see if that works. Or maybe reinstall network manager. Are those reasonable places to start?

Ubuntu Networking :: Accidentally Disabled Networkmanager

May 27, 2010

Using kubuntu 10.04, I accidentally disabled networkmanager on startup for one of the users of my system. This user now has to manually start networkmanager each time after logging in. How can I make kde run networkmanager automatically again? How this happened: when I started a parallel session as an other user, while already connected via networkmanager in my own profile, kde detected this and asked something along the lines of "There's already a networkmanager running, run networkmanager automatically in the future?" Since I was a little confused, I clicked "no", and that's how things are ever since. I thought there would be some system setting that would allow me to restore this setting, but I haven't found it yet...

Ubuntu Networking :: Source Of Disabled Wireless?

Jun 28, 2010

My wireless was working fine for about a year using 9.10 until I installed an update about May 28 2010. After that my HP laptop did not recognize any wireless routers including my Netgear. In early June I upgraded to 10.04. My HP laptop has: product: AR5001 Wireless Network Adapter vendor: Atheros Communications Inc. Dose the following apply when looking for the source of my disabled wireless found at: [URL]

Setting wireless regulatory domain via module option no longer supported. Ubuntu 10.04 LTS enables the CRDA wireless regulatory framework for controlling which wireless channels are usable and visible in a particular location. If you previously had to use the module option similar to that below in /etc/modprobe.d/options.conf to allow access to certain channels in your locality then you may find that wireless will not function at all: options cfg80211 ieee80211_regdom=EU You should remove this kernel module option on upgrade from releases earlier than Ubuntu 9.04 and use the iw*reg command instead. (This change was made in Ubuntu 9.04.) Here are the results for the Code sudo lshw -C network

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Internet Is Disabled?

I realize this seems like a repeat question (and it probably is). I have been searching for a solution to my issue on the forums/web for a few hours to no avail. I have a Compaq f700 with Vista. I am sick of Vista. I installed Ubuntu today. Looking forward to using it more. However I am having problems with the internet.

My wireless internet is on the on setting, however, the light will not switch from orange to green (if I load Vista instead, the light changes). Broadcom BCM4311 802.11b/g WLAN [14e4:4311], It says my wireless is disabled. I can not figure out how to enable it.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Disabled - How To Re-enable

Aug 22, 2010

We're on vacation here with free wifi and I brought two laptops. The older of the two laptops running Ubuntu 10.04 and a Broadcom wireless chip suddenly wouldn't work this morning. I checked and it says wireless disabled, however wireless is grayed out when I right click on network manager. I have -no- idea what to do. I've never seen wireless just die like that. I popped open the cover but the wireless card is fine. I re-seated it, booted back up, still no sign of it.

What can I do?

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Disabled / Enable This?

Sep 10, 2010

I updated from Ubuntu 9 to 10 some while ago and can no longer connect to the internet via wireless. The computer is a Medion 96290 with a USB wireless card. Running "lsusb" gives code...

This tells me a driver is installed but it may not be the correct one. I copied this driver from the Windows driver file.

Network Manager shows "Wireless Network" greyed out and "wireless is disabled".

WICD shows net8187b as the installed driver and that the hardware is present.

There is a wireless switch on the keyboard which it was not necessary to use in Ubuntu 9 and is inoperative in Ubuntu 10.

I have searched through and applied many suggestions without success and have posted this problem on a couple of forums, again without success.
