Aug 21, 2010I a trying to setup a wired connection in my ubuntu machine 8.04. but could not able to connect to internet, the internet status icon in status bar is always disabled irrespective of whether I connect the cable or not.

Jul 13, 2010I do have internet cause I am using it on W7. The only thing that I have done different is I left the pc on over night so I guess it went to suspend for the first time. Then I powered off. After turning the pc back on and logging in I have no internet. Not even with the Ethernet plugged directly in. There is supposed to be a little blue light on when it sees the wireless and that is off. When I click on the networking icon in the system tray it says networking disabled. It shows no wireless. When I plug directly in I still get nothing. I'm using 10.04

Aug 16, 2010I realize this seems like a repeat question (and it probably is). I have been searching for a solution to my issue on the forums/web for a few hours to no avail. I have a Compaq f700 with Vista. I am sick of Vista. I installed Ubuntu today. Looking forward to using it more. However I am having problems with the internet.
My wireless internet is on the on setting, however, the light will not switch from orange to green (if I load Vista instead, the light changes). Broadcom BCM4311 802.11b/g WLAN [14e4:4311], It says my wireless is disabled. I can not figure out how to enable it.

I have noticed that when I reboot with vista, it recognizes my wireless network, but is unable to connect to it. Internet works perfectly fine with ubuntu, just not with vista. How do I solve this?I have tried disconnecting from the internet in ubuntu, and even uninstalling ubuntu,This is my output when I type �sudo lshw -C network�:

Ubuntu Networking :: HP G50 Wireless Disabled Was Working?
Jan 6, 2011I'm running Ubuntu 11.04 latest updates on a HP G50 laptop. It was working fine but would never auto connect to wireless. I would have to select the wireless from the top menu and connect to a network. However I disabled it once and tried to re-enable but ran into a problem. The Enable Wireless was grey and would not allow me to enable.
Have searched google and tried lots of solutions and none worked. I even reinstalled and still have the problem.
Fedora Networking :: Disabled NetworkManager And Internet Doesn't Work Anymore?
Aug 1, 2011I recently installed Fedora 15 x86_64 on my new AMD Machine and I'm quite pleased with things thus far.Here's where my problem comes. I mainly bought that machine to help me with Development. More specifically, Virtual Machines for testing purposes. I have installed Fedora 15 x86_64 as a qemu-kvm Virtual Machine and it's working.. for the most part. I am having a whole lot of trouble getting it to connect to the Internet.
My guess is the only way I'm going to reliably do that is to setup a Bridge. Yes/no? However, in order to setup a Bridge I need to disable NetworkManager and that where the fun happens. It completely disables my network connection. I'm probably missing something small, but I can't figure out what I'm missing. I've double checked my ifcfg-em1 multiple times(I've been trying for ~24 hours so far) and all the settings are as they should be.
I've turned NetworkManager off and stopped it(chkconfig and service) and turned network on(chkconfig and service). Theoretically I should simply need to turn off NM and turn on network and things should be fine. no?
Well, aside from adding:
ONBOOT=yes
NM_CONTROLED=no
to ifcfg-em1.
Ubuntu Networking :: Broadcom Sta Driver Disabled And Not Working After Update?
Oct 2, 2010I applied the latest updates today and when I rebooted, My wireless broadcom driver is not working and the ifconfig does not list it either anymore, was working 8 min ago but is now dead. If I turn off the wireless with a switch and back on, I get a blue light but it remains disabled and greyed out on the network icon. Ubuntu 10.04, latest updates applied daily. I removed the driver and reinstalled it, it did not help at all. Also, my Truecryt gdecrypt stopped working.
Update: it seems the wireless switch on the front of the laptop is now working backwards, in checking the daemon log I found Turning off the wifi so the light goes out:

Update, I found that if I boot the laptop up with the networking switch off, then, after I'm booted up, turn it on, it works. However if I reboot the laptop with the network switch in the on position I get the above issue with the switch being inverted and not working properly.
Ubuntu Networking :: Internet Icon Is Not Showing Up In The Top Panel?
Aug 3, 2011I am running ubuntu 11.04 in classic mode and for some reason the little network icon located in the top panel disappeared. I tried resetting the panels using:

When I right click and choose add to panel it doesn't show up as one of the options.
I also installed compizconfig and docky then it disappeared. would this have anything to do with this?
Ubuntu Networking :: Router Access - No Internet After NM Icon Disappeared
Apr 28, 2011Today I set my HPG50 with Ubuntu 10.10. I used network install disk, then tasksel to add Ubuntu Desktop. Everything was fine, I set up my samba shares and a few other things. I had the NM icon on the panel but did have to configure. I was on wired connection and I could surf no problem. When I went to set up the wireless, I noticed the icon was gone. I know it was there after the install. At some point the network manager icon disappeared, not sure when because I could still access the router and internet. I spent a few hours surfing google and the forums trying to find an answer. Then, after running update and upgrade I lost internet. Even though I could see the router, I connected straight to the modem, still no internet access. I unplugged the cable from that machine and plugged it into my other system and I could surf just fine.
It was clear that nm-applet was running from running nm-applet at the terminal - nm-applet - "An instance of nm-applet is already running - Warn Couldn't initialize the D-Bus manager. nm-tool - State - connected, Driver r8169, State Unmanaged, Default no. NetworkManager.State - All three entries are set to "true". It seems clear that some other app is managing my connection as I can access the router and am currently serving video to my apple tv from this system. How do I find which app is managing my connection?
Ubuntu Networking :: Enabling Non-internet LAN Makes Internet Over Wireless Stop Working
Sep 1, 2010I am trying to connect my desktop to my laptop over a non-internet connected LAN, but when i enable the LAN connection on my desktop (the one with the wireless) its internet stops working.
it is a very similar problem to this except that i am using ubuntu for the machine with the two connections.
right now i have my wireless on the 192.168.1.* address space, while the LAN is to be on 192.168.5.*
note: my goal is not to share internet with my laptop, just be able to connect to it and the internet at the same time.
desktop: ubuntu 9.10 , wireless and LAN
laptop: windows xp, LAN only

Jun 22, 2011I recently installed fedora 15 on my computer but I have a huge problem. I can connect to my router wirelessly for a couple of minutes only. Afterwards my computer has no Internet connection although the network manager and the icon on the upper bar says that i am still connected. I tried editing the /etc/rc.local and /etc/resolv.conf as mentioned in other posts in here bit no luck so far.

The next day - no wired connection.Still managable, since the local library has wireless. Now that won't work either.Just after I upgraded from Jaunty, I accidentally removed NetwMngr from the top right corner of the screen, but that should not have anything to do with how the program works, right? I now cannot reach NM, if I run it from the terminal, nothing happens visibly.

After this I was able to connect to internet and browse websites from Firefox.But I am having Issues with Evolution Mail(Connection Timed Out) and Google Talk Client(Connection Timed Out).Empathy Internet Messaging gets connected fine.I was wondering if I will have to disable IPv6 System wide and hence I added the following lines to /etc/sysctl.conf

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Not Working Despite Icon Showing 100% - Asked For Keyring Password Twice
Dec 15, 2010Until this morning, my Wireless had always been working fine. This morning I rebooted after an Ubuntu update and now:
- I am asked twice for "enter password for keyring 'default' to unlock" whereas before I was always just asked once.
- The connection seems to be established, with the icon showing good reception and the tooltip reads "Wireless network connection 'mywifi' active: mywifi (100%)
BUT I can not connect to any website or ping the machines of my network, even by IP address. All of the other computers around (Mac, Windows) can use the Wireless as usual. My Wireless is WPA-PSK TKIP hidden SSID. My Ubuntu is 10.10 Maverick.

Dec 22, 2009Ive been using fedora 11 fora few months now and suddenly today after I booted up fedora network authentication(the little icon that lets me choose wifi networks) isnt showing up in the upper right hand corner which isnt that big of a problem but the fact that its on start up applications and its not wondering is what Im wondering about but on top of that my internet doesnt work at all.It will work for a little bit after boot then die and when I go to network authentication and network manager no wifi networks show up and I have about 5 around my house not including my own which is also what ive been wondering.

Fedora 10 with lan (eth0) having direct internet from dsl model, client (XP service pack 2) can use samba shares using dhcp (wlan0) installed in Fedora 10 box. client can ping my linux box.Now problem is: client (dosbox) can ping the google ip address (i.e ping 74.125.39.106) but can't use 'ping www.google.com'. That means ping with ip works for internet from my client. My linux box can. I can use internet from FC10 but can't use iexplorer from my client to have internet. I have enable ipmasquarding in Firewall and dhcpd is running on wlan0 for dynamic ip address of my clients.Can someone suggest me what kind of problem having I? What should i do to success iexplorer for internet? what possibly am i missing?

Mar 25, 2010Often i have an active connection on the tree network with an internet dongle according networkmanager, but ping is not working and firefox and thunderbird also don't have a connection. Skype however is working at that time. (testcall to skype is working) My present solution is to disconnect and connect a couple of times again until i can ping a commonserver on the internet, and then everything is working normal. Many are stating networkmanager is buggy, is this a known bug and is it worked on or do i need to install another program. Has any of you an idea what could be going on and how to solve it, permanently. In the way it's automatically right when connecting.
My dongle is of type: Huawei E 1550 and often i have a normal connection.

Apr 29, 2010I am trying to set up a basic router. I am running ubuntu server 10.04(just installed it today!) I have a verizon aircard(mobile broadband card) that is connected via usb. I am using wvdial to "dial-up" the connection. This works just fine and gives me a device on ppp0. There is a single lan connection on eth0 set up as a static ip address under /etc/network/interfaces. I don't even have any firewall running yet. For whatever reason, I can only get out on the internet when eth0 is set to get its ip address through dhcp. When I set it up with a static ip, I get for example:
$ping 4.2.2.2
From 192.168.1.1 icmp_seq=1 Destination Host Unreachable.
$ping google.com
ping: unknown host google.com
If, however, after I have booted and the wvdial has been started, I set up eth0 as dhcp, run /etc/init.d/networking restart, set it back as static, run /etc/init.d/networking restart again, all work well. When I reboot the system with the static ip on eth0, and connect to wvdial, I get no internet again.

May 4, 2010I recently did a fresh install of 10.04 from 9.04 and since then I am unable to use Internet. However my ethernet connection is working fine, as I am able to login to modem and check configuration. I reinstalled twice, downloaded fresh 64-bit & 32-bit and also followed kernel update steps as in few forum posts, but no joy. The firefox is throwing an error "The connection has timed out". My internet connection is working fine as I am able to use my Windows Laptop to post this message. I checked system > administration > hardware drivers and couldn't find any unsupported hardwares.I had similar issue when upgrading to 9.10, hence stayed on 9.04. When I looked at LTS image, I couldn't resist and cleaned up 9.04.
