My wireless gets randomly disabled in my Acer Timeline 3810 with F11. The time it can take is basically random, but most of the times it ends up happening. I get disconnected, and then in the network manager in gnome panel wireless network appears disables and in fact the option appears grayed out. The only thing I can do to get it back workinh is restart.

I installed 2 image browser apps to view all my Photos.
After I rebooted the GDM login screen hung, unable to login to X.
So I changed runtime level 3.
The ATi driver that came with FC12 worked fine and the driver from AMD do not support my kernel. I don't do system updates.
Anyway to restore the original driver that was provided with the FC12 disc? Possibly corrupt.
I'm running a Thinkpad Yoga, and in what I suspect was an Xorg update, my TrackPoint and touchpad are disabled, and Xorg does not show the synaptics driver being loaded.
Synclient produces a "Couldn't find synaptics properties. No synaptics driver loaded?"
I have tried rebuilding both xorg and xserver-xorg-input-synaptics to no avail.
Everything worked fine on kernel 2.6.33-6.But since the update to kernel 2.6.33-8, not always but nearly everytime I resume from suspend, my wireless network is disabled.When I right click the tray Icon the "Enable Networking" box is unticked and greyed out.Only a reboot brings networking back
View 14 Replies View RelatedI have an HP Pavilion notebook with a Broadcom WLANcard that had been working very nicely in Fedora Core 10 until this evening, when I took my notebook to a conference room where there was no internet access. (I tried to connect to wireless networks, but there were none in the area, as I discovered.) am now unable to connect to my local (home) wireless network as the device is now non-existent . Can someone please walk me through the steps to fix this or re-install it (I have tried reinstalling broadcom-wl, but that didn't help). My lspci listing is reproduced below:

my eth0 suddenly stopped working on FC10. i have been using it the whole time, and now it refuses to even ping the gateway. dhclient is not receiving a dhcp offer and when i put in the information manually, it is not even able to ping the gateway. netstat -rn shows that the destination of the router is going nowhere.
i do not think it is the hardware/software, but rather maybe the provider? i am from central europe but just moved up to great britain and working at a friends place. i can connect the mac powerbook without a problem (it will get an ip with dhcp), but not the linux machine.it is a normal ethernet modem connection here. can it be, that it checks MAC addresses or even the computer names? the powerbook also has a really weired IP address: 77.102.xxxxx
i am not using network manager, but command line tools and have nm uninstalled. does anyone have a clue, what this could be about? i am not a newbie, but this is really puzzling me.....
A few days ago (september 7) my wireless suddenly stopped working. I am using FC11, and have an Atheros AR5211 wireless card and have been using the ath5k driver with GNOME NetworkManager. Wireless networks are detected by NM perfectly fine. When I try to connect, the icon spins around those two dots, and one of them becomes green. If the network is wep protected, it asks for the password. After a while, it times out, regardless of the protection. I don't remember changing pretty much for the last two months, so I'm sort of surprised. I did download and install a kernal, along with an selinux-policy update.
If I run dmesg, relevant looking lines included:

I installed Fedora today, and I automatically had internet connection, I never had do configure anything myself. Then, I was playing around with VPN for a good while (trying to set up the VPN connection to my University), and now, I suddenly lost my connection to the internet!
But only Fedora can't connect anymore, the Windows PC has connection as well as my Mac OS X (I dualboot Linux on my MacBook). The Ethernet connection works as well, when I unplug the cable, Fedora gives me a message, but I just don't get into the internet!
Does anyone have an ides what I have to do? I don't know anything about network connections and I'm new to Linux...
I already restarted the Computer, but that didn't work, and Google didn't really held either.
I have just installed Fedora 13 on my Lenovo Ideapad S12 (company laptop, evaluating Fedora for companywide use on all laptops) and a facing a weird problem with KDE4 and NetworkManager / knetworkmanager. The laptops wifi card is a Broadcom BCM4312 and I have successfully extracted the necessary b43 firmware. The b43 module loads on boot and the wireless card is activated and ready to use. However, NetworkManager doesn't seem to agree and has wireless disabled by default every time I reboot or even logout / login. I have to check the box manually after which it automatically connects to my wifi network at home.
Any idea where I can check that box automatically on boot?
I had installed Fedora 12. I am using 4 LAN Cards. All these cards were configured using network manager, but i am not able to acivate /deactivate these cards using acivate /deactivate buttons since they got disabled. I could activate the cards by running /etc/init.d/restart network. Anyone knows why the acivate /deactivate buttons in network manager are disabled .

Now I do use various flavours of Linux on a daily basis but not from an installation/sys admin point of view so my questions here may seem a little basic but pleas eindulge me if you will!
Now, my network connection works perfectly well under the following scenarios.
1) FC12, wired to router
2) FC12, wireless, SSID broadcast enabled
3) Ubuntu (laptop), wireless, SSID broadcast DISABLED
The only scenario that does not work is FC12, wireless with SSID broadcast disabled.
I can only assume that it is an issue with my USB modem (a linksys WUSB54GS) since the same set-up works fine from my laptop running Ubuntu with an internal wireless card.
Now, I know from reading the forums that it's pretty easy to get around a disabled SSID broadcast but this is an itch I just have to scratch....what the hell is causing this problem?

I'm working on setting up access for our developer via Telnet, we are on a local network behind a physical firewall. I set up the standard Telnet service for Fedora15 and from localhost I can login via any user and root.... However I cannot login from another terminal on the LAN, even though I can ping and FTP to the fedora15 box. I added the firewall rules for telnet, that did not work, so I disabled the firewall, still cannot get a connection via port 25. I feel either port 25 is closed in another manor or the telnet is restricted to the localhost.
Also I cannot login to root to configure the Firewall Desktop GUI, only standard users, is this an issue? I also cannot login to the console as root even though I use the correct password.I can only su to root and sometimes it is a PITA. There must be some settings to clear these issues up...
I recently installed Fedora 15 x86_64 on my new AMD Machine and I'm quite pleased with things thus far.Here's where my problem comes. I mainly bought that machine to help me with Development. More specifically, Virtual Machines for testing purposes. I have installed Fedora 15 x86_64 as a qemu-kvm Virtual Machine and it's working.. for the most part. I am having a whole lot of trouble getting it to connect to the Internet.
My guess is the only way I'm going to reliably do that is to setup a Bridge. Yes/no? However, in order to setup a Bridge I need to disable NetworkManager and that where the fun happens. It completely disables my network connection. I'm probably missing something small, but I can't figure out what I'm missing. I've double checked my ifcfg-em1 multiple times(I've been trying for ~24 hours so far) and all the settings are as they should be.
I've turned NetworkManager off and stopped it(chkconfig and service) and turned network on(chkconfig and service). Theoretically I should simply need to turn off NM and turn on network and things should be fine. no?

to ifcfg-em1.
I have been running FC8 on this IBM T23 with a D-Link wireless adapter. Using MadWifi this has worked fine with Network Manager disabled. But now I have nuked that installation and replaced it with FC10. Network Manager is nice, and I would like to use it. And it kind-of works. Network Manager recognizes my router and all my neighbor's routers, but I can't connect.

I've been using Kubuntu Lucid on a Compaq tc4200 for nearly a month now. Suddenly today I logged into my machine and found that I couldn't connect to anything, Internet, LAN, router, nothing!Upon further investigation, I found that networking services weren't turned on at all!I tried manually starting the network service using

I do have internet cause I am using it on W7. The only thing that I have done different is I left the pc on over night so I guess it went to suspend for the first time. Then I powered off. After turning the pc back on and logging in I have no internet. Not even with the Ethernet plugged directly in. There is supposed to be a little blue light on when it sees the wireless and that is off. When I click on the networking icon in the system tray it says networking disabled. It shows no wireless. When I plug directly in I still get nothing. I'm using 10.04

I used universal-usb-installer and unetbootin, both without success.The installation completed successfully, except that wireless networking is not enabled. For times when the free DNS nameserver is 'closed' (often lol) I use localhost and can see/work on my site. Suddenly, when I type localhost into the address bar, I get a blank page, nothing! I'm not sure what to do....can someone please help because am going to use my website to present a class project, and was going to use localhost (bring my computer) in case the nameserver was down, I have to be able to display it.

I've been running Ubuntu 10.10 (Maverick) x64 quite happily on my Dell e6500 for the past few months until today when I woke the computer up from sleep mode and could not use the wireless. The network-manager applet simply has 'Wireless' greyed out. I tried rebooting, thinking it was an issue with the wireless card not re-powering on properly after sleep, but to no avail. how to begin here?

I have been using ubuntu 10.04 LTS for the last 5 months, used tata photon plus for networking. Everything went fine when couple of days ago, after doing normal updates as listed by the update manager, sound went off.. to solve this, I had to remove and reinstall certain packages as listed in [URL] ...+documentation, I had to restart, after restarting, the sound problem was gone but the network manager icon went off, the modem was not getting power from the computer though the LAN wire was connected. To add to dismay, the mobile broadband connections that I had added to the network manager were gone. I tried adding the tata photon plus (huwaein) again but could not be added, reinstalled usb-mode switch data and related packages, but still the computer does not detect the photon as usb device. I have broadband dsl connection and tata photon plus too but cant use any of them.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've started to set up a server at my house, where I eventually want to run it headless, and I can just VNC in from my other Desktop. I installed Ubuntu 10.10, setup remote desktop on the server, and from there was able to do any work remotely. That was nice. I turn the computer off at night, and the next day when I was going to work on it, I cannot VNC in anymore. One day passed, and now every time I try to use VNC it comes up with "Failed to connect to server" I also set a static IP address on the server too, so I know the address isn't changing every so often.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am running Karmic on a Compaq Presario V3000 and this morning my wireless card is not being detected by Ubuntu's NetworkManager. I have no idea what caused this... literally, it was working when I shutdown my laptop last night. When I right-click the NetworkManager icon in the panel it does not show "Enable Wireless" (only "Enable Networking"). When I run ifconfig in terminal it shows my wireless card as being there (UP Broadcast Multicast). One weird thing - on the front of the laptop there is an LED which lights up blue when the card is working (ie normally), but right now it is orange (ie, if you flick the switch on the front of the laptop to toggle the wifi on or off... I have toggled it back and forth but nothing changes!)

I'm using Ubuntu 10.04. I was happily connected to internet and surfing some forum, when wireless connection suddenly stopped working.
Now I can't find any access point, and I'm pretty sure I didn't do anything to justify this behaviour.
It already happened a month ago, but I had to format my drive, so I didn't really bother to try to solve the problem.
Anyway. I'm posting here the results of the commands I think I can help with a diagnosis; if something else is needed.
