Networking :: Adding Two Interface Cards To Bridge - No Connectivity

Mar 1, 2011

I have a network config as follows:
X.8 <---> X.41 X.40 <--->X.16
where X.8 and X.16 are 2 separate workstations and X.40/X.41 are two interface cards in the same machine. Now I apply brctl bridging in the X.40/X.41 machine by adding both the interfaces to the bridge and thereby connecting X.8 and X.16. This part is working perfect. But there is no connectivity between X.8 and X.41 and when I try to ping at X.8 to X.41 it gives Destination Host Unreachable. Is there a way to achieve this since I require some message to be sent from X.8 to the X.40/X.41 bridge machine.

Debian :: Switch The Kvm Network Using Bridge Mode?

Dec 20, 2008

I've successfully install kvm with private network (nat) up running. I want to switch the kvm network using bridge mode (or host-interface), but do not success. env: nic iwl4965/ kernel 2.6.27.8/ debian etch upgrade to lenny/ kvm 0.9.1/ hardware hp 6910p The doc I follow up is at [URL] The way how i set it up is to modify /etc/network/interfaces by adding following section to enable br0

Code:

allow-hotplug br0
iface br0 inet dhcp
bridge_ports wlan0
bridge_fd 9

[code]....

However, the problem is the guest os, which starts with -hda k1.img, can not access to the internet. Is there any step I miss? or it is because wireless does not support bridge (I've heard doc says that wireless does not support wireless bridge)?

Ubuntu Networking :: OpenVPN Bridge Mode Firewall?

Nov 7, 2010

I have OpenVPN running on my Ubuntu Server just fine. I can connect over the Internet and access all my resources on the LAN via bridged mode perfectly. My server only has one LAN card and sits behind my router, which means it has a private IP address of 10.1.1.2....Which brings me to my question. I want to open up access to my friends via OpenVPN, but I don't want them to be able to access other machines on my LAN (e.g. 10.1.1.20). However, I do want them to be able to talk to each other and pass broadcasts (old LAN games), as well as my laptop (let's say 10.1.1.7).I've tried using iptables to block traffic to the LAN (such as .20), to no avail. I've been reading up and it seems as though iptables won't even filter the traffic, as it's passed at a lower layer. Is this true? If so, what do you recommend I do in order to prevent my buddies from accessing the rest of my LAN while siumultaneously allowing broadcasts pass for some very old Windows LAN games (we're talking Windows 9.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless To Wired Network Bridge

May 3, 2010

I am running ubuntu 9.10 on a dell xps m1530 laptop dual booting with windows 7. I am trying to achieve the following setup.

Wireless router <=========> Laptop <-----> Switch <-----> PS3

---- wired
==== wireless

Both laptop and ps3 have static ip addresses

The reason for this is I can connect to the internet on my ps3 through my laptop, and I can stream from my laptop to ps3 through wired connection. This works fine in windows 7 all I had to do was right click bridge connections. As I dual boot I don't want to have to make any changes to the settings on the ps3.

My interfaces are:
eth0 - wired
wlan0 - wireless

I installed bridge-utils and created a bridge and added both eth0 and wlan0 to it. However I could not get it to work. I have also tried internet sharing through network manager and firestarter.

Ubuntu Networking :: Connecting To Internet Through Network Bridge

Nov 13, 2010

I setup a network bridge on pc A, with windows 7 installed on it, using windows default bridging tool. I connected computer B to computer A and Im trying to connect to the internet through the network bridge on computer A. Computer B (client) has two OS's installed, win XP and linux(tried with different distributions, didnt work). On windows XP everything is working, when i try to ping the router (after computer A) it also responds. On linux system nothing is working, and im not quite sure why.

I set up linux to receive IP adress from DHCP, which is router in this case (behind computer A), same way windows XP was configured. I decided to ask here, because I couldn't find anything on the net. My guess is windows-made bridge supports only windows-OS's but that would be kind of strange (its just a software bridge).

Ubuntu Networking :: Monitor Mode On Broadcom 14e4:4315 And 14e4:432* Wireless Cards?

Apr 3, 2010

First of all, this tutorial will use NDISWRAPPER, not b43, not wl (Broadcom STA). So, hooray for new method (actually, the only method ). Now, I don't want anyone to get scared because of bad experiences with Ndiswrapper or whatever, it's actually quite easy. I did not come up with any of this info. I'm just putting this guide together from Kacper Szczesniak's info (who came up with this method), WifiDocsDriverbcm43xxFeisty_No-Fluff from the Ubuntu Wiki, and my experience. The Broadcom STA (wl) driver has references to monitor mode in it's code, but does not have that functionality in reality. The Broadcom Windows driver on the other hand does have this capability. So, for monitor mode to work, you will need a patched version of ndiswrapper.

1) Install the Linux kernel headers:

Code:

sudo apt-get install linux-headers-$(uname -r)

2) Install the tools required to compile Ndiswrapper:

Code:

sudo apt-get install checkinstall dh-make fakeroot gcc build-essential

3) Unload current Ndiswrapper module, if running:

Code:

sudo rmmod ndiswrapper

[code]....

Ubuntu Networking :: Making Sure Two Network Cards Each Have The Correct IP Addresses?

Nov 2, 2010

I've got two NICs connected to two different routers, and on different subnets of course. Each is set for static IP. But somehow I must have mixed up the connections at some point, so the NICs don't always have the IP addresses I expect. I think there may also be a mixup with different ways of setting the network addresses. When I click the Network Icon on the Desktop, I see that each NIC has both addresses as options. The /etc/network/interfaces file has some information about eth0, but all commented out, so there must be another place the addresses get set. And I just discovered that eth0 and eth1 aren't physical but virtual. I guess eth0 is the first one that is set.
