Fedora Networking :: Samba Share With Two Network Cards - No Internet Access

I have a fedora 10 box with two network card on eth0 I have a pppoe connection to the internet, on second card eth1 I share my internet connection end I set up a samba server but I don't know if the settings are good. How to do this settings right to work fine, the ip are assigned by dhcp I don't use any static ip .When I try to browse the internet from the other computers some site's like {.com ; .org ; .info} are block, other site from {.ro} are working. Someone tell me something about turn off all my filters, but I don't know where to find this filter to turn it off. And when I use samba I can't have and internet access or vice versa. I've used Samba for several years and when it works it's great. Unfortunately from time to time it seems to get messed up and either all the 7 machines on my home network can't be seen or I can't access the shares on some. I have 2 Windows XP computers 4 Kubuntu and one Linux Mint KDE, all the latest versions. I'd rather not plough through all the documentation for Samba, but would really like a "model" smb.conf with a few comments about parts that might have legitimate variants. I have researched this with Google searches many times but have failed to find the information I need in concise form.

I have a desktop computer running OpenSUSE 11.2 with two network cards installed. I would like to use both cards for connecting to the internet using different networks. The setting would be the following: eth0 is the main (default) card, almost all programs should use this NIC for connecting to the internet. eth1 is used only by a few programs, which have setting for selecting which network interface to use. The two NIC's are connected to different networks, so the IP address of the NIC's, the related subnet masks and gateways are also different.
Saying short, I would like to have the two NIC's as they would be in two separate computers. I can set the IP address and subnet mask of the NIC's. The main problem is that I can only declare one gateway. How can i setup this? I do not use network manager, I configure network cards using yast, but if needed I can of course use ifconfig directly.

In this post I will give a quick solution for a possible problem with sharing a folder in Fedora 15.I had to spend some time for research and frustration so, hopefully this post will save you from both. If you have Samba installed and configured to share certain folders on your Fedora machine for a Windows network but, they can't be accessed then following might solve the problem:
1. Go to Applications, Other and run FIREWALL
a). go to TRUSTED SERVICES and check SAMBA and SAMBA CLIENT that are located in the list of services
b). click APPLY
c). go to ICMP FILTER and check ECHO REPLY (PONG) and ECHO REQUEST (PING)
c). click APPLY

I have a samba server on my LAN. It can be accessed without any problems from Windows machines on the LAN without password. I have two computers that I have updated to OpenSuse 11.2 (both used to run 10.3). Since doing this upgrade I can no longer access the samba share from the Suse machines. Basically, both Dolphin and Konqueror ask for a username and password to access "avoca" (the workgroup).

I have currently have opensuse 11.2 installed. I am trying to setup samba shares which you can only access as certain user. Currently looks like the only way I can access these share is use root username/password!
I want to which GUI I need to use to setup this up properly. And of course what setting to exactly to use.

I have set up RHEL 5 file server with Winbind and samba services running.I am able to assign and authenticate windows XP users against my RHEL 5 server.No issues.But one or two of my users are using Windows 7 Ultimate edition and they are not able to access my network samba shares.I can view the shares in windows 7 box but trying to access gives me "network access denied error".But i can access the same share in Windows xp machine for the above tested users.Working great but not in windows 7 box.I haven't tested with Vista OS yet.

When I browse from application is not visible in the desktop folder.
PS. I find it with smb://pathway, but I don't know how I can do it from some gui-applications.

I need to access a windows share at my university's server. When I am at the university, I can access the share by nautilus (or dolphin) in a similar way to ftp:
smb://domain%5Cusername@server/share
The thing is that when I try the above anywhere else except the university, it does not connect. I guess it has something to do with the domain, but I am not sure.

My work uses an internal software suite where the data is hosted with a linux server. It uses mysql and samba shares. We are currently opening a new location and need to be able to access the samba shares. We are able to access the mysql databases. The samba shares are used to store various files for the software such as updates, invoices (as pdf files), etc. I've setup vpn connections using windows servers in the past but I can't, for the life of me, get a VPN server setup on our linux server that windows will connect to. I've tried openvpn and pptp. I'd prefer to use the built in windows client to connect.

cannot restrict share access to a single user. I've played with the security and valid users options in the smb.conf and I can get it to mount if I remove the valid users option, but this does not provide the access restriction I need. I also left it open and tried making the folder permissions rwx for backupadmin only and that didn't work. I'm using a credentials file which I include below, but I've tried manually entering them in the command too.

I am trying to properly mount a samba share in order to access it from a terminal and run a script that I've written over a folder in the share. How could I do that? I tried smbclient but after successfully logging in I couldn't issue the sh command. Isn't it possible to have it mounted in the /mnt folder like a normal filesystem?

I installed samba server on fedora13 last week and share some files from samba server GUI. I also created samba user and password for shared folders but I can't get access samba share folder from neither fedora machine nor Windows XP. When I open samba share from other fedora such as smb://192.168.10.2. I can see share file and when I browse folder, password required box is appeared but after I put samba username and password. The Error message is Unable to mount location Failed to mount Windows share. Even when I browsed samba share from windows xp.
Error message is \192.168.10.2smbshare is not accessible. You might not persioon to use this network resource. Contact the administrator. The network path was not found. How can I get access samba share from both fedora and XP that is what I installed on server:

I'm relatively new to liunx and I have recently installed Fedora 9 to act as a media server. I thought everything was going well until I tried to connect to my Samba share but could not.Not sure what the netbios is but I believe this can be anything I want?So as far as I can tell, the laptop can see the Samba Share, Fedora can see it's own Samba share but nothing (both laptops XP and Vista or the Media Player) can connect to the /public folder..I don't login to either Laptop with a user account, so I believe I do not have to create a user.

I've created two samba shares, /media/disk1 and /media/disk2 say the structure is like this:
/media/disk1/dir1
/media/disk1/dir2 links to /media/disk1/dir1
/media/disk2/dir1 links to /media/disk1/dir1
so I can access /media/disk1/dir1 and /media/disk1/dir2 from samba share, but I cannot access /media/disk2/dir1, on Windows 7 it throws:

In conclusion, symbolic inside the same drive is okay, but when cross-drive links happened, I cannot access them..

why cant I access samba share by short-hostname from win7.when I ping short-hostname, the answer is the actual ip and short-hostname.mydomain.com pinging short-hostname does work, but accessing it from start-run does not! accessing by ip or short-hostname.mydomain.com works fine.ssh by short-hostname from win7 works fine too.

Running samba-3.5.6-71.fc14.x86_64. Why cant I access samba share by short-hostname from win7. When I ping short-hostname, the answer is the actual ip and short-hostname.mydomain.com
sa pinging short-hostname does work, but accessing it from start-run does not! Accessing by ip or short-hostname.mydomain.com works fine. ssh by short-hostname from win7 works fine too.

I have 2 Ubuntu machines: a desktop in my bedroom, and a laptop.
I have my music shared on my desktop machine, and can access it through the network menu item in the nautilus manager, but I want the files from the share to be mounted on the disk so I can access it through the commandline.
If I right-click the shared folder in Nautilus, it says its location is smb://rob/music
If I do:
mount -t smbfs //rob/music /mnt/music, it tells me that it cant locate rob.
So I try "ping rob" and that doesn't work.
I can't make a hosts entry for rob which happens at this moment to be 192.168.0.8, because my router assigns different IP addresses to various machines at different times, and I cant seem to find a way to make static maps from MAC address to ip address.
So, how come nautilus can see my samba share on the machine "rob", but the mount commands cannot?

I started using Arch just a few days ago. forward traffic to the Wireless access point I created on arch. i am using cable internet (ppp0) which I want to share via a usb wifi adapter running as a WAP. I followed the instructions in this link to enable the AP mode. Afterwards I followed the instructions provided in the Arch Wiki to forward the traffic but because of my inexperience I am still unable to connect to the internet. I'm running Fedora 14 and when I'm surfing the web, it seems to lag in between pages. I don't think its my net connection, I just wiped windows 7 off my system for Fedora and it did not suffer from the same lag issues.I've tried adding in google's alternate dns server 8.8.8.8 but it didn't seem to fix the issue. I ran into this issue a couple years back on Ubuntu 8.1 or something like that, and I never could find out what I needed to configure.My second problem is that when I try to connect to other Windows systems on my wlan or wired connection, it gives the error "failed to retrieve share list from server". I'm not experienced in networking, can someone explain this to me?

I have been having off and on issues with my samba file shares. I am sharing a NTFS formated hard drive where the mount point is in my home directory, as well as a printer connected via USB. I am to the point where printing works (using it as an ipp print share, samba is configured for it, but I don't know if it works or not), and I can access the shared folder from Windows, but I can't access the shared folder from any Ubuntu machine. I'm trying to setup a Samba network share with a Fedora Directory Server backend. This will be used primarily for Windows users to authenticate before accessing the share. I am using Fedora Core 10 and have all of the latest updates installed. When I try to connect from a Windows machine, I am prompted for a username and password. I enter the username and password of the account I created in Fedora Directory Server in OU=People. The credentials are rejected. At the same time in the log file I see this:

Administrator is the user I created in Fedora Directory Server. If I perform an ldapsearch it will find the user as uid: Administrator so I know it is able to be looked up in FDS. But I'm guessing that's not the problem.

I'm running a Fedora 10 box behind a Comcast cable modem that provides squid and mail services to 15 XP and Vista workstations. I upgraded the ethernet cards on our Fedora box to support our new 1 gigabyte network. I kept the same device configuration eth0 and eth2 by updating the /etc/udev/net persistent file and changing the ethernet hardware address in the respective ifcfg-eht files in the /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts. The box booted to the new cards, the route and ifgonfig shows the new cards and their hardware addresses, the configuration looks as how the old cards looked (eth0 and eth2 respectfully). I was able to browse the local network and have access to the internet as before from inside the network . However I cannot get access to our web server that serves our web host and our VPN services from ouside our network. I tried stopping the firewall and still could nor connect from outside the network.Could my old ethernet hardware address be hard coded somewherel?

I've installed Ubuntu Server 10.10 with two network cards. One for external, and one internal.My problem is that as soon as i activate eth1 (external), i can't access the server from the internal network (eth0)
With these settings i can't reach the internal network from inside.If i disable the gateway on eth1 and enable the gateway on eth0, it works.

I want to use samba for file sharing like on a Windows home network. Actually they are all Linux machines but nfs is too complicated. On my host machine I installed samba and system-config-samba. I created a new share for /home, check marked writable and visible and put access to everybody. For preferences-->server settings--> security the "authentication mode" is set to user, encrypt passwords is no, and guest account is no guest account. Under preferences-->samba users I added myself as a user with the same windows user name as my Linux user name and the same password.
My client is a virtualbox fedora (used for testing purposes but actual clients will be real computers on my home network). I entered the address smb://192.168.1.184. When asked for the user name and password I put my regular user name and password since that was what I set in samba users. However, the password dialog keeps coming up and won't let met into my own computer. If I quit it says something like access is denied. How can I get my home network back? I liked this feature when my home computers ran XP but I switched them to Fedora 12.

This is my first post. I am not all that new to Linux. I have done lots of reading on the OS but always felt a little timid when it came to trying out stuff.Here is my problem I have a stand alone samba server I am trying to setup to share all my digital photos and other doc. I can see the share from other machines. On the windows machines you can see the users home directory and the share itself in an folder icon. Whenever I try to access the share it asks for a passwd. I enter the passwd and the share folder is visible when I click on the folder I get and error message.
