I have a hp p1102w laserjet printer that works in windows. However after connecting it through Suse Linux 11.2 it is recognized and the printer name is showing but there is no driver for the printer. This is a usb connection. I have an 1100a laserjet connected that works but it is a parallel port.
Any suggestions? I haven't been able to find any special drivers on the web.

I'm using current testing repos and the system is updated.
The printer is detected and installed via hp-setup, it just doesn't print.
This setup used to work, but I haven't printed anything in a while so can't be sure what caused it to stop working: updates, recent power outage or something else.
Printer is using a static IP address.
What works:
Printing over USB works.
Printing over WiFi from a different, Windows, PC works.
Pinging the printer (connected over a WiFi router) works. Also, opening the printer admin page works.
What I've tried:
Restarting everything.
Purging all hplip packages and reinstalling.
Installation log: [URL] ....
hp-check: [URL] .....
I'm stuck.
I have tried to download the latest version of CUPS but do not know how to install it properly using command line commands above 'sudo' and 'sh', and I have tried to install HPLIP but it needs 'cups-devel' installed apparently. My Debian can see the 1020 clearly enough to identify it and give its status as idle, via the CUPS interface. When I try and print a Test page it goes to the spooler, says it is printing OK, but nothing prints. The job then disappears and appears on CUPS as completed. In the old days we would have sent a eof() to make the printer work. Have I got a bug in my HP Laserjet 1020 driver? Or am I missing the great plug-in that is not on the Synaptic Package Manager The SPM says I have HPLIP installed.

I have searched and searched and tried numerous things, but I just can't get it to print. (I tried to post the debugging output here, but the forum kept wiping out my post).
I've been banging my head for two days now trying to get my HP Laserjet 1020 to work. I've gotten the drivers working on the box itself (Opensuse 11.3 x64), but I couldn't get it to print from my laptop (Ubuntu Lucid). Ideally, I'd like to end up with a functional printer which can be used either from the desktop machine (Opensuse) or from the laptop (Ubuntu) through NFS.
After so many attempts at fixing it, I've not made it such that I can't print at all, from either system. I'm considering re-installing Opensuse (or just going back to Kubuntu, which recognizes the printer without a hitch). But before I do so, I figured I'd ask here.
Here are my issues, and attempts at solution:
1) I tried adding the printer both through CUPS, through YAST and through hp-setup, using the hpijs driver. Each time the printer is recognized, but a test page won't print.
2) I tried building the foo2zjs driver, as outlined here: HowTo Install a HP LaserJet 1020 printer in Suse 10.x, 11.x It came up with dependency problems repeatedly on the last step (sudo make install-hotplug) . I gave up when it told me that it was conflicting with an installed package (system-config-printer-udev) which was not installed.
3) Perhaps related problem: on the CUPS web interface, I get a "forbidden" message when I try to change the options on the CUPS server to allow remote access.
Note that:
a) I've already added myself to the lp group.
b) I changed the permissions (+rx) on the /dev/lp0 to allow myself access
c) I'm able to get to the CUPS page on the client machine, so the port 631 (I think) must be open. I say "I think," because there's no option to allow CUPS in YAST firewall settings, for some reason.
I've been following guides here and there, but I'm afraid that I've borked my cupsd.conf file through all the edits. Here it is:

My LaserJet is connected to an old desktop machine that has it shared. The configuration on that desktop is correct, since I have been printing through it from other Windows machines for a long time (and it still works now).
I recently started dual-booting Ubuntu 10.10 on my otherwise Windows laptop, and I've gotten everything basically working how I like it, except that I can't get connected to that printer.
The Vista machine is at IP address 192.168.0.103, and the printer is shared as LaserJet. It's set up with workgroup MSHOME.
When I go to add a printer in Ubuntu, I click the Browse button under "SMB Printer," and I see the MSHOME workgroup, but when I try to expand it, there's nothing inside.
If I try to type in the address directly (smb://192.168.0.103/LaserJet), the Verify button tells me "Print Share Inaccessible, Connection timed out." Note that I can ping 192.168.0.103 fine. I can continue through the rest of the wizard, but I obviously can't print anything out after I finish the setup, since the connection is failing for some reason.
There is no username or password required to see the shared printer.
Any idea what could be going on here? I'm kind of at wit's end here, and I'd love to be able to ditch Windows--with the obvious exception of Starcraft II, of course
We have workgroup network in the home and the printer "hp laserjet p1005" connected at the server (OS : windows server 2003) and I am connected to the Internet by the server without problems. But when I want to print any file, it remains in (processing) and no print. It's picture for this problem:
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm running Kubuntu 11.04 and LibreOffice Writer 3.3.2. I'm trying to print a #10 envelope on an HP LaserJet 5M printer. When I create the envelope and attempt to print it, LIbreOffice sets the paper size to #10 Envelope, as it should. I put the envelope into the manual feed tray and initiate the actual printing operation. The printer goes through the motions of processing the output -- and then goes back to the READY state without printing anything. I've tried using all possible Paper Tray settings and also using the CUPS drivers rather than the Foomatic drivers. None of that makes a difference. What does make a difference is setting the paper size to Letter, but then, of course, the information prints in the wrong place on the page.

It is running under CUPS 1.3.8, with foo2zjs driver (the only one that supports laserjet 1005). As this is a home box, I haven't done that for some months, so a lot of stuff has been updated. I'm afraid some CUPS library has been updated and is now bugged, because it always worked without any problem. My question is whether or not there are known bugs on last CUPS version with hp laserjet and if there's any solution to work it out. I already tried to reinstall the printer, reboot the box, plug it to other USB port, reboot the printer, set it as default printer, and many more things. Google search didn't turn up nothing useful. The problem is not on the printer because I plugged it to my windows pc and it worked like a charm, so I'm pretty sure some stupid configuration or bug is messing arround with my printer

I am trying to print a schematic from KPDF (Suse 11.2) onto an 11x17 sheet of paper. Regardless of the printer settings I use or which driver I choose it won't rotate the image and fill the page. I have the same problem with kiCAD. If I use Okular it prints part of the drawing in one corner at the 8.5x11 scale.

I am not using Samba. The setup went fine, but I am not able to print to it. There are other clients (all Windows) that are printing fine to this print server. The following is what I see in the /var/log/cups/error_log:

I am using DHCP in this LAN. Ping is working fine (client's hosts file updated with the print server's ip address.). This looks like a networking issue.

With SUSE 11.0, KDE 3.5.9, on a 2006 Gateway AMD Athlon desktop computer, using a Canon PIXMA MP500 multi-function inkjet printer connected USB, when I attempt to print a page, it shows as if it is functioning fine, but nothing happens, and no error messages.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI bought my HP P1102w printer specifically because it works in Linux, and it did in Fedora 14 after installing the hplip from HP, not the repository.
After upgrading to F15, the printer was no longer there. /var/log/messages saw the printer, but claimed "io/hpmud/model.c 625: unable to find [hp_laserjet_professional_p1102w] support-type in /usr/share/hplip/data/models/models.dat", which is strange because I found that exact line in that file.
Anyway, I downloaded hplip from [URL] and installed it.
Plugging in the USB cable now looks good:

I then tried system-config-printer and it detected the printer on the wireless network. (I really needed to print something, so I had set it up in a Windows XP virtual machine.) So now I have the printer displayed as a network printer, but it still can't print anything. The test page diagnostics spits out the attached debug log. The only thing that stands out to me is the error claiming that my HP printer isn't an HP.
I initially had a problem accessing the CUPS interface (see my other post) and got that resolved by adding the user "cupsys". Now, everything "looks" ok, and when I print a test page, it shows it as completed (in CUPS). However, the page never prints.
The printer is a Canon MP600 (using the canonmp600en.ppd file to configure it). Here's the output of my conf file.

Interesting problem: For the first time with Xubuntu 10.10 64bit, I am finding certain applications print corrupt. A varying amount of letters / numbers either get substituted/print a blank space/ print a box etc etc. This corruption seems to happen from a Pdf ( evince ) or Spreadheet ( Gnumeric ) Opening the same Pdf on another machine (ubuntu 10.10 32bit) prints perfectly. Opening the same .xls file on the original computer but using OOo Calc prints perfectly.
I guess I have ruled out any problems with the printer itself or the network JetDirect box. I have re-installed CUPS and evince and upgraded to the latest version of HPLIP but the problem appears unchanged.
I cannot print pdf files. I have tried using okular and xpdf. The documents display in the program, but print preview shows a blank page. The printer then sends out blank pages. I have tried printing on 2 different printers using usb cables. Using terminal to process the commands shows error:

My wife has a canon MP470 printer and running ubuntu 10.10. I am able to print black and white, but unable to print photos. I got it to work using another driver, but not the 'correct' one for this printer. I have searched a bit and don't see anything about ubuntu 10.10, just older versions. Or should I just network her to my printer....?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm running Kubuntu 10.10 with a Laserjet 5M printer. When I attempt to print a job from Firefox or from Okular, the job never gets onto the print queue. However, I can print test pages on the printer and also print from OpenOffice, so this seems to be app-dependent. I know the jobs aren't being queued because the job number doesn't increase (as shown by the jobs for the test pages). Both Firefox and Ocular give every indication that the print job has been processed correctly.

The second page shows the first page on top of it, and the third shows the preceding pages on top of it - and so on. Has anyone else seen this problem?I guess the printer buffer is not getting flushed correctly. If my configurations were trashed in some way, I don't know where to look for a fix.

Just installed drivers for Lexmark pro200 - S500 series. However although it is recognised by the system and has a tick by its name, And tells me it is connected via usb file goes to print que but will not print. Also tells me it is Printing - localhost! is this correct?.
View 1 Replies View RelatedUnder Fedora 12, the HP laserjet p2035 is supported. It appears under HP>Laserjet as a dirver option when setting up the printer. But all the HP driver options except two havedisiappeared under Fedora 13 (64 bit version).
I may be missing some package, but if so I don't know what. I didn't have to do anything special, I think, for Fedora 12.
Also, I can't set up the printer as a windows printer. I don't know if it is because none of the driver options work or because of something else. I often have problems setting up remote printing with a new release, so I expected this. But I'm not sure where to begin troubleshooting.

View 5 Replies View RelatedIs anyone else having problems with HP LaserJets and Ubuntu 10.04? I have a HP LaserJet 3015 and am running a dual boot with Windows 7.
Printer is automatically detected and works fine on: Windows 7, Windows XP, LinuxMint, and older versions of Ubuntu.
But when I'm running Ubuntu 10.04, when I try to print it just adds the job to the print queue and it never prints. After awhile I get a message saying that Ubuntu is unable to communicate with my printer. (or something to that effect). I can't even print a test page.
I have tried installing HPLIP following the directions given, but get the same behavior (can't communicate with the printer). I have tried unplugging the power cord and usb cable and plugging them back in (as per the directions I am following). But still not communicating.
Our one remaining problem seems to be printing. She has an HP OfficeJet 6500 USB printer. We have the computer conntected. Strangely, when I boot from the CD the printer shows up as installed even though I did nothing to install it. After having submitted a print job it shows the printer status as "idle" and the print queue is empty. I tried deleting that printer and re-installing. The installation went as one would expect. However the results are the same. I'm beginning to think that somehow the problem is related to the fact that we are operating from the live CD. getting this thing to print from the live CD.
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy printer is a HP laserjet 4 Plus. It used to work with the gutenprint drivers pretty much since always.I don't know when it broke, because I don't use it that often. I have tried with the generic postscript driver, with the gutenprint driver, with the j4dith driver and with the hplib driver. Basically, what happens is that all jobs never finish processing in the queue. On the other hand cups-pdf still works.

The problem I'm having now is a little bit different. If I open the print que before I print something like a test page, and then start printing, an item with appear in the que for a second then disappears, and the printer will do nothing. I've run out of ideas on how to get it to work, I did try to apply the original fix for my first problem since it seemed that the drivers for the Printer that were available via HP weren't quite right, but that didn't work. I tried to run -c 'yum install foo2zjs' and that didn't do anything either.
