Hardware :: Video Encoding Options For Zicplay Zicone Mp4 Player
Feb 14, 2011
I'm trying to encode music videos in a way I can watch them on my Zicplay Zicone Mp4 player. This player seem to have a Rockchip RKNano chipset and is said to support mpeg4 videos. The sample video that came with it seem to have been encoded with xvid and has a resolution of 160x128@15fps. Audio seems to be mp2.
However, when I encode a video with mencoder it will play but with video only sporadically showing and playing way to fast. Does someone know if some special options are required? I'd prefer not to use the Windows utility that came with it.

It is well known that mencoder can be used to encode video to be burned on DVD with a tool like dvdauthor. The whole procedure is described here:
7.8. Using MEncoder to create VCD/SVCD/DVD-compliant files
Sound for a DVD is normally encoded with AC3. I encountered some cases where the encoded sound was badly distorted. As it seems, the default for the input changed to float at some point. The fix for this is to use:
Code:
acodec=ac3_fixed
instead of "acodec=ac3".

I'm trying to encode a video using only one image during a complete audio file, but a can't find the way to do it. What I need to do is to extend the duration of the frame up to the duration of the audio file. How do I do that with mencoder?

I have a Windows machine with a 2TB hard drive containing several raw videos I want to encode with Handbreak. I have two laptops I want to use to cut down on the time. These laptops have very small hard drives, and probably can't hold more than one or two videos at a time. I was wondering if there is a way to keep all the videos on my Windows machine and just use the laptop's to encode over the network, or at least have it automatically copy the raw videos, and put the encoded ones back as needed. Long story short: one big hard drive, three CPUs to encode, need to split the work up quickly.

Is there an app or find parameter that can search for video files using a specific (DivX for example) encoding? On Windows, you can do this, so I was hoping there would be some way on Linux whether it's with find or another app. I want to find all (*.avi OR *.divx) on my file system with the DiVX fourcc tag (i think that's what its called)

I'm trying to encode a wmv file to flv with ffmpeg. The video codec is WMV3 and the audio codec is wmap (Windows Media Audio Professional). The command I use is:
Code:
/usr/bin/ffmpeg -i <input file>.wmv -s 640x350 -b 1024k -r 25 -ar 44100 -ac 2 -y <output file>.flv
Output:
Code:
FFmpeg version 0.5-svn17737+3:0.svn20090303-1ubuntu6, Copyright (c) 2000-2009 Fabrice Bellard, et al.
configuration: --enable-gpl --enable-postproc --enable-swscale --enable-x11grab --extra-version=svn17737+3:0.svn20090303-1ubuntu6 --prefix=/usr --enable-avfilter --enable-avfilter-lavf --enable-libgsm --enable-libschroedinger --enable-libspeex --enable-libtheora --enable-libvorbis --enable-pthreads --disable-stripping --disable-vhook --enable-libdc1394 --enable-shared --disable-static .....
Stream mapping:
Stream #0.0 -> #0.0
Stream #0.1 -> #0.1
[wmv3 @ 0xb32c00]Extra data: 8 bits left, value: 0
Unsupported codec (id=86056) for input stream #0.1
As you can probably see the audio codec is not supported. Is there a way to encode WMV3+wmap with ffmpeg or any other tool in Linux? Windows Media Encoder in Windows is able to encode such files to a supported codec. For example: WMV3+WMA2/WMV2+WMA2, I could then encode it in Linux. I'm trying to find a way to directly encode WMV3+wmap in Linux.

I've been away from Linux for a while, so I need to get informed about some of the 32- vs. 64-bit issues concerning video players and codecs. So, what is everyone using these days?
More specifically, is it possible to play, e.g., .wmv files with 64-bit Kaffeine (my favorite player) or any other 64-bit video player? If so, then which combination of player and codec should I use?

Been having some problems renaming a mp3 player. When I connect it to my computer it shows us like in the image I have attached below. I have tried to rename the media by going into its properties (no luck) and then tried to use gparted, but while I can select it, all the options are greyed out.

When I insert a movie on dvd, it mounts and gives me options to choose a dvd player. The cd/dvd/bluray icon in Places shows a dvd in the drive. I can eject the dvd from this screen too.When I load a data disc or an empty dvd the cd/dvd drive disappears from Places and the drive spools down. It just refuses to mount at all. Please see screenshots of Places.

I can play nearly any video format on my pc because I have loaded all of the nessessary software. But what about tvs? I loaded some videos onto my flash drive and then I inserted it into the usb port of a LCD tv. Nothing on the drive would play. I assume it is because tv have a limited number of formats that they will play.Now, if I intend to download videos and convert them so that they will play on a tv, what are my best options for..
#1 What is the preferred conversion software?
$2 What is the preferred format?

I just reinstalled my laptop with OpenSUSE 11.4, 64-bit and I'm using gnome 3.0, I can't figure out how to change the default video player to vlc though...I've tried going to 'Applications' --> 'System Tools' --> 'System Settings' --> 'System info'Here I can choose default programs, however vlc does not appear in the drop-down menu for videos. I do have vlc installed. I can choose to play videos with it when I right-click video files. But I'd like vlc to be the default so that I can just double click the video file and vlc plays it.It is a little bit confusing as totem is set as the default video player in the above-mentioned window, but when I double click a video file banshee starts

I recently canned Windows to transition completely over to Ubuntu. The main reasons why I haven't gone with Ubuntu completely are the poor video playback in fullscreen as well as gaming. Recently I started playing games much less frequently, so that became a non-issue, however the video playback is still very inconvenient.
The main problem I have is tearing. The two players I got to work are VLC and the Gnome Movie Player program. I tried getting mplayer to work but I was a little confused on that one. It works better on Movie Player but there are some formats it won't play the audio on even though I have the "ubuntu-restricted-extras" installed.
Anyone have some tips on better media players out there? Does mplayer do better?

Since upgrading to Lucid, I haven't been able to play videos in Totem or VLC player, though I've got all the necessary codecs. The sound plays, but I just get a black screen with (very) occasional flashes of the image. However, I've found that SMPlayer DOES work.
Is there a way to make it the default, so that when I double-click the vids, it will fire up automatically, instead of my having to use right-click/open-with ? I've tried changing it in the multimedia tab of 'Preferred Software', but that doesn't seem to work.

Then I close VLC, double click on the video file and... it opens in Totem.I checked out system>preferences>preferred applications, but under multimedia all I could select is music playback.

I am trying to burn a video DVD created from "Devede" with K3B. The video DVD successfully burns, and plays in my computer, but does not play in any of the DVD players in the house. I used to user "ConvertXToDVD" when I was on Windows, but am trying to find a free/open source alternative on ubuntu. I am using all default options. I have looked in the settings for both programs, and I fail to see the problem here. Even the ISO created from devede seems to match up to the Video DVD (that works in the players) I had burned with ConvertXToDVD.
In Devede I have it so that the menu is disabled and it automatically plays the first title. Apparently this is not good enough.. I thought this program was supposed to be easy to use? What am I doing wrong here? I am using the same DVD-R I have used before on my Windows machine to great success. I am getting frustrated as I have went through 2 DVDs,
