I am running Classic (No effects) Since I installed VBox a couple of days ago, I have just realized the Sound and Video options have disappeared from the Applications Menu.
View 6 Replies=> "Automatically remember running applications when logging out" is no longer existing because of bugs with multiple sessions. Is there a way to enforce this option, even if it is bugged with multiple sessions? My system has only 1 user and I miss so much this feature.

I have downloaded a couple of software packages from the ubuntu software center and they are not showing up in the applications menu on top, I have no idea where on the hard drive it stores them so I can find them manually and place a shortcut in the applications menu.

View 2 Replies View RelatedOnly "Favourites", "Run Command" and "Leave" is shown on the classic KDE menu, same thing when switching to Launcher Menu Style. Missing Applications and everything else. File associations is not working. Double clicking any type of file it asks to install the program and the known applications menu is empty.
I tried to add a new user, same problem with that. I also noticed that when running Chrome it asks to be the default web browser each time even when I say yes.
I have not been messing with anything, I suspect it happened during a update, but I got the exact same repositories on 2 other x64 machines where there is no problem.
I'm using KDE 4.6.0 from the factory repository.
I tried to reinstall some KDE4 packages without any luck.
I do not want to reinstall the entire system or downgrade KDE.

I have a Dell Dimension 2350 with an Intel 82845G Graphics controller that is connected to a 15" Craig flat screen television via VGA. It has absolutely no issue running at the television's peak of 1280x720 at 60 Hz with Windows XP. When I first discovered Ubuntu, I immediately tried to install it. After a tedious month of failed attempts, I resolved to doing what I opposed: using Wubi. I did not want to use Wubi because I wanted Ubuntu on a separate partition.
This is where my issue is. After installing Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx, I rebooted and started normally. I noticed that audio was present but all I saw was a blank "No Signal" screen on my television. I waited for over an hour, to no avail.computer was responsive. This was obvious when the computer released audio when a button was blindly pressed. I reinstalled after waiting even more, suspecting a failed install. I then used the failsafe graphics upon pressing escape after my third failed install. This worked, but it gave me an unsightly 640x480 resolution. I did my best to fix this, but it came to a dead halt with an error I could not fix: a CRTC error.
I then installed Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala without an an issue. Everything was perfect except for the fact that I did not have the most updated Operating System even though it was free. I decided to to update 10.04 via Update Manager, thinking that all would go well. It did not. My mistake in updating brought me back to the drawing board.My official Ubuntu 10.04 Compact Disc arrived in the mail yesterday. When I hit "Install" I eventually end up at the same "No Signal" screen
So I have the burned ubuntu CD, and I'm attempting to install it on a system that has one HDD with XP/Vista on it, and another that is completely formatted and unpartitioned. However, when I boot to the ubuntu CD, I can use the menus from the bottom, and select the language when initially prompted, but I can't select any of the menu options except for boot from first hard drive.

I know it seems silly, but I can't find the way to handle this inconvenience. Is there a place (like Start> All programs in Windows), were I could find and run all the programs I install?

I havev tried to play the audio with smplayer (not luck), vlc can play the audio but the pause button doesn't work so I have to listen the entire audio all the time I stop it playing. When I edit my applications menu to to hide games they stay on the menu. Everything else hides when prompted.

When I try to open some file, including directories, "Open with..." window appears.
I was recently trying to install Ruby from source, due to needing and older version and having yum acting up on me. The problem is, the executable is being installed to /usr/local/bin instead of /usr/bin. I figure there's probably a way to change the install directory at some point during the configure/make/make install process, but there's no man page for these functions, and Google has not been kind.
Thus, my questions are twofold:
1) Does anyone have any good documentation (ideally, with examples/explanations) of command line parameters available for configure and make?
2) Failing that, can anyone tell me in specific how to install a source code's compiled executable to a specific directory?
I installed 10.4 netbook, but it doesn't have the same panel as previous versions. I like things like multiple desk tops, main menu, and placing the clock in the center, but I cannot find anyway to adjust this stuff. Is there a solution?
View 1 Replies View RelatedTitle pretty much says it. As you can see from my screenshot, my effects list is far shorter than it's supposed to be, a quarter the size of what I had on my hardy desktop. The main effects that are driving me insane not having are 3D windows, e.g. windows hover above the desktop cube in order of use, and water sloshing around in the cube as I rotate it. Are these now options under an effect? I couldn't find them anywhere. Running 32 bit lucid on a laptop with a good graphics card.

The way to fix it would be to separate the audio and video streams, speed up the video (the audio is FINE, it's the video that's wrong), and then recombining them. What is the easiest way for doing that?
View 7 Replies View RelatedIs there an application that anyone knows about that I can use to convert either an .flv or .ogg file that contains both audio and video to just an audio .ogg file (preferably vorbis+theora) without audacity? I'm fairly certain audacity could accomplish this but it seems like overkill for what I'm trying to do and the computer I'm trying to use does not run it so well.
::EDIT:: I should also mention that I've tried looking on google. I did find downloadhelper extension for firefox which uses ffmpeg to convert the files but I don't see any obvious way to strip the video.
I am new to Ubuntu and am trying to learn. Using 10.10 on HP notebook. The Hardware option is missing from the menu. System / Administration / Hardware is not there. System / Administration / * all seem to be there just no hardware option.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI was trying to make Gnome display the date in a better format. I tried using gconf-editor as described in the thread at [URL], but I also found that apps > panel> default_setup > applets > clock had no prefs item.
Unfortunately, the solution which worked for quixote (stop running as root) didn't help me as I was running as the only account I've set up on the system, and all of the files in ~/.gconf are owned by that user.
Does anyone know what else could cause options to vanish like that? I'm running Gnome 2.32.0.

screen0 is fine, screen1 has no window buttons so once a window is open, I can't close it, cant move them, cant do a lot with them
Ok under the power control icon in the upper right hand corner of the screen I have the options to hibernate and sleep, but I do not have shut down, or log off. If I control-alt-delete I have shut down, hibernate, suspend and restart. Also I am currently using 11.04 on an HP Dv6 laptop. I previously installed Ubuntu 11.04 on here and it worked perfectly. To address yet another interesting "bump" I installed this and on my launcher I have an applet to "Install RELEASE" but, I have the latest installation of 11.04 on here.
View 1 Replies View Relatedjust want to report "Right Mouse Click Freeze" on Ubuntu 10.10. When I click on anything with my right mouse button to open options menu it freezes and does not open menu. Sometimes when I shake my mouse left/right a bit it opens that menu, but this does not work always. It seems like xserver issue, but I'm not sure since I'm not expert in linux yet. It's very annoying issue that I would like to resolve asap.

I am running 10.04 and have recently had an issue where a powercut shut my computer down unexpectedly. Since this all the options from the network/connection part of my taskbar have been removed.I have run the OS from a boot disk and the same problem occurs. I have updated and re-added the mobile broadband but still nothing appears and as yet i have been unable to connect to the internet again since the powercut.am still learning everything (very slowly) so i apologise if this has been previously solved but i can't seem to find it on the forums.

Ubuntu changed something and I don't what it is (I cant even figure what to search for)
- The first screen is my desktop system->admin->login screen
- The 2nd is what should be there. system->admin->login screen
I think the title says it all. I want a quick way to crop images whilst retaining exif data (rules out shotwell) so when I upgraded lucid to natty (via MM) I kept f-spot. However when I click the 'edit image' button in eye of gnome f-spot still opens but it has no 'edit' or 'metadata' options in the sidepane so I can't do a quick crop anymore. Why they are missing or how to put them back?
View 1 Replies View RelatedSince installing 11.3 I've noticed that with certain Workspace themes the plasmmoids and panel have options missing: The theme in the screenshot is "Elegance" others have the same problem; "Oxyglass", "Heron" & "Aya". The panel has the resizing sliders missing. These were working ok in 11.2.
