Been having some problems renaming a mp3 player. When I connect it to my computer it shows us like in the image I have attached below. I have tried to rename the media by going into its properties (no luck) and then tried to use gparted, but while I can select it, all the options are greyed out.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm not sure how it happened but recently when trying to print to a previously added printer, the printer does not show up. Most options are grayed out and clicking troubleshooter tells you that CUPS is not started. Latest guide I could find is for Ubuntu 9.04, options for restarting cups in 10.4 are slightly different (see below) To restart cups from terminal window in Ubuntu 10.4:sudo /etc/init.d/cups restartI looks like in Ubuntu 9.04 the command was /etc/init.d/cupsys restart. This should show the printer and open up the grayed out menu options, allowing you to print normally again.

When i go to System>Administration>Startup Disk Creator i can see the everything, but options "Stored in reserved extra space" etc are all grayed out. I have attached a screenshot, hope it helps in explaining my problem. how to getting these options enabled? My OS is Ubuntu 10.04

Iam using opensuse 11.1. I want to know which is the best player that can be used in suse, which should support all codecs. I have tried totem player, xine, kaffeine, Noautun etc. But none of them is good. I have tried to install vlc player, but it shows a lot of dependencies too..it was not successful.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a desktop with nvidia 9300 connected to a 37" LG hdtv lcd with a VGA analog cable. I'm using this machine as a media center. Up until now it had a windows XP and (besides the fact that it had windows) it work with the correct resolution - 1920x1080. I've installed Ubuntu (the latest available) after to many crashes during hd movies...
I installed the nvidia restricted drivers (the display is plain black otherwise) and my tv is being recognized as a CRT monitor. Guess it's because I'm using the vga connector instead of the dvi one. The problem is that the highest resolution it let me choose is 1024x768. I tried to mess around with the xorg.conf but i discovered it doesn't exist.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an NTFS volume on my system which I regularly access from within Ubuntu 9.10, mostly to play the plethora of DVD images (*.iso files) stored there. I use VLC Media Player to watch the content. For some reason, VLC's file browser only shows a small subset of the files by default. I have to select "All Files" instead of "Media Files" to see all the *.iso's.
What's this about? Since they're all the same type of file, I don't understand why some would be viewed as "media files" but others not. If the files were on a Linux-type filesystem (ext3 etc.) I would guess it had something to do with permissions, but I'm not sure how file ownership & permissions apply to a mounted NTFS volume.
When I insert a movie on dvd, it mounts and gives me options to choose a dvd player. The cd/dvd/bluray icon in Places shows a dvd in the drive. I can eject the dvd from this screen too.When I load a data disc or an empty dvd the cd/dvd drive disappears from Places and the drive spools down. It just refuses to mount at all. Tried reinstalling totem/mplayer/vlc/gstreamer/ubuntu-restricted-extras, tried changing video output in gstreamer-properties. Nothing helps.

What I want to do is be able to store media (pics, audio, ripped dvds) on a central server and access the across the network with a media player in Ubuntu or Kubuntu that I can connect to the TV and entertainment system.
What media player to use and how I should set that up? I might use windows server for the shares just because I am used to it unless theres a better way. I have a pretty beefy server just waiting for media files.
I'm new to the Linux world and I have frankly had hard time using RhythmBox. It's not nearly as user-friendly as iTunes and it's not that I'm any great fan of iTunes! What is a good alternative to RhythmBox that will allow you to play music, download music, and install and play video material in a clean and easy way? I've heard that MPlayer is a decent option but I know there are others as well.

I spend a lot of my spare time lying in bed watching (legal) movies using VLC Media Player. I have never before the dist upgrade had any issues with this although since the upgrade I have found the VIDEO in the movie crashes usually around halfway through the movie although the audio remains fine and continues through to the end of the movie.

It seems your FFMPEG (libavcodec) installation lacks the following encoder: MPEG Audio layer 1/2/3.
If you don't know how to fix this, ask for support from your distribution.
This is not an error inside VLC media player. Do not contact the VideoLAN project about this issue. After some searching around, I found a guide on setting up ffmpeg at [url] which I have followed. I am still getting the error.
Do I need to add any other codecs to make this work?
Unfortunately, being the fact that I'm a gamer; I need to dual boot with Windows 7. I'm after a nice music player with a similar GUI to Banshee or Rhythmbox in their minimalism. Something as Gnome looking as possible and very lightweight on recources.

Is there a vlc config file or some other CLI media player that will allow me to output via coax? Or can I set my default sound in ubuntu server? It is a Garmma media player that has a lot of capability but I would like to have Ubuntu or Kubuntu or something of the sort on it. It doesn't have wifi on it, but it has an internal hard drive of 8gb and is expandable to 40gb with a flash drive. I am able to format the hard drive because it shows up on my computer as a removable drive. Now when I tried to install it through the flash drive it didn't work because the Media Player can't run .exe files. View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to encode music videos in a way I can watch them on my Zicplay Zicone Mp4 player. This player seem to have a Rockchip RKNano chipset and is said to support mpeg4 videos. The sample video that came with it seem to have been encoded with xvid and has a resolution of 160x128@15fps. Audio seems to be mp2.
However, when I encode a video with mencoder it will play but with video only sporadically showing and playing way to fast. Does someone know if some special options are required? I'd prefer not to use the Windows utility that came with it.
