I've been away from Linux for a while, so I need to get informed about some of the 32- vs. 64-bit issues concerning video players and codecs. So, what is everyone using these days?
More specifically, is it possible to play, e.g., .wmv files with 64-bit Kaffeine (my favorite player) or any other 64-bit video player? If so, then which combination of player and codec should I use?
in software.opensuse.org site if we serch for a software the result will be like the following
vlc
KDE:Unstablelayground/openSUSE_11.4_KDE_Distro_Factory This is the stripped version of the VLC media Player. VLC media player is a highly portable multimedia player for various audio and video

if i like to keep the setup(rpm) of the software which i should chose the above?
Whenever I try to play certain WMV files in VLC, my computer screen goes black and in full mode. I can hear audio, but the computer effectively crashes and task manager won't open, forcing me to restart. What is the problem? I don't think it's a virus, as the file works perfectly for everyone else
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to diagnose a weird problem ... maybe someone has an idea where to start. I'm having a problem with flash videos. The video part displays as if the fast-forward button is being held down; audio sounds correct.
I'm thinking "synchronization error" (duh!) but I'm not sure how to start to diagnose the issue. I'm running OpenSUSE 11.4 x64, and the problem shows up in both chrome and opera.
I have the following problem with Linux openSUSE 11.4 as Guest OS in VMware Workstation 7.1.4: "Linux doesn't play any video, with no single program!" I can only play audio files with Amarok, other programs can't play anything... (Audio & Video) I think... There is a bug in the VMware Workstation with the Display Driver the only format that is playable if .flv via firefox and flashplayer (eg: .....)
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just reinstalled my laptop with OpenSUSE 11.4, 64-bit and I'm using gnome 3.0, I can't figure out how to change the default video player to vlc though...I've tried going to 'Applications' --> 'System Tools' --> 'System Settings' --> 'System info'Here I can choose default programs, however vlc does not appear in the drop-down menu for videos. I do have vlc installed. I can choose to play videos with it when I right-click video files. But I'd like vlc to be the default so that I can just double click the video file and vlc plays it.It is a little bit confusing as totem is set as the default video player in the above-mentioned window, but when I double click a video file banshee starts

View 9 Replies View RelatedWhen I was in Win XP I was happy with iTunes; now in OSuse 11.2 it has been difficult to find a functional replacement for it. Banshee donwloads my video and audio podcasts but can't replay them within the program. I have to go manually (Dolphin) to the corresponding folders and replay them using mPlayer, which is not very handy / fiendly. I tried to install Miro, and so far has not worked (see post here)

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have just upgraded my ubuntu dist from 9.10 to 10.04 via the Update Manager inside gnome. I spend a lot of my spare time lying in bed watching (legal) movies using VLC Media Player. I have never before the dist upgrade had any issues with this although since the upgrade I have found the VIDEO in the movie crashes usually around halfway through the movie although the audio remains fine and continues through to the end of the movie.
View 2 Replies View RelatedMoved to linux as I was assured it was "uncrashable" but I seem to have managed it after only 2 days. Running ubuntu 9.10 and trying to download adobe flash player. I get an error message :-
E: The package adobe-flashplugin needs to be reinstalled, but I can't find an archive for it.
E:Internal error opening cache (1). Please report.
Every time I close this window synaptic package manager also closes. When I try to download flash player directly from the adobe web page, synaptic refuses to cooperate. I am now stuck as I can't delete this or download anything else.Computer janitor won,t delete it either. Also when I go applications>ubuntu software centre, everything I try to download comes up with Not available in this critical data.I can see this is going to be a very steep learning curve.

I am trying to burn a few video files to dvd using brasero, but after the burning process is about half the way through it simply disappears with no error at all. Only the terminal says

How to burn my videos now.
I previously managed to install Ubuntu 9.04 using the regular Live-CD by using the no-ahci option. Now I am trying to install Ubuntu 10.4 LTS with an alternate install CD but even tho when i use the same options, I get a black screen then everything messes up and I get this: This is a video of what happens: [URL]
So I downloaded the regular installation CD and I had a big surprise again...The same thing happens except that its not white but purple. No matter which option I select its still the same. Note that this did the same thing when I tried to install Ubuntu 9.04 with the Alternate CD. I have a SiS motherboard. I tried OpenSuse just for the fun of it and it works!!! But the things is I don't like OpenSuse I would really like to make it work with Ubuntu.
Why does flash crash my system when I'm watching a video online? I'm fairly certain that it's flash.
View 4 Replies View RelatedIam using opensuse 11.1. I want to know which is the best player that can be used in suse, which should support all codecs. I have tried totem player, xine, kaffeine, Noautun etc. But none of them is good. I have tried to install vlc player, but it shows a lot of dependencies too..it was not successful.
View 2 Replies View RelatedSince upgrading to Lucid a few days ago I'm having intermittent problems (90% of the time)with opening OpenOffice files. When I open up a spreadsheet (.ods) in OO, (whether OO was already open or not) my screens go black, then flash on and off for 30 seconds (ish) as if trying to change the refresh rate.Sometimes this results in Gnome crashing and restarting itself. it settles down and is OK. On a few occasions I have had to change terminal and manually restart gdm.
Here's my environment;
Dell Latitude D620
nVidia GeForce Go 7300 (according to hwinfo)
Ubuntu Lucid 32-bit (upgraded from Jaunty)
2 GB RAM
I've got the recommended "NVIDIA accelerated graphics driver (version current)" hardware driver and the NVIDIA X Server Settings applet, which says my NVIDIA driver version is 195.36.24. I'm running dual screens (1440x900 and 1280x1024) using TwinView. After a flicker, here is what I find in the Xorg.0.log;

I received some training videos and I can't play it on Totem. It just plays audio. Tried VLC but it gave me this error instead..
Code: No suitable decoder module: VLC does not support the audio or video format "undf". Unfortunately there is no way for you to fix this.
I have an Acer Aspire One ZG5 with ubuntu and windows, i have an HD video camcorder, when i try to se a video recorded for this camera (that it's in HD 720p), the video looks laggy, i only can see some parts of the video, the audio is good but the video not much.
The camera comes with a CD and has a program that can be used in windows, with that program if i want to see a video of this camcorder i just open it whit that player and it looks good, but in Ubuntu i don't know any program that let me see my videos good without beeing laggy. Do you know any program that i could use?
I have tried VLC, Movie Player, Banshee, and have no luck.
which program i can use to edit videos?
I've just installed Fedora 13 and so far it's been pretty painless. But i am having some issue with dragon player. I beleive i have all of the multimedia stuff installed properly. But i am getting no video or sound from dragon player. stuff plays fine in vlc.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently canned Windows to transition completely over to Ubuntu. The main reasons why I haven't gone with Ubuntu completely are the poor video playback in fullscreen as well as gaming. Recently I started playing games much less frequently, so that became a non-issue, however the video playback is still very inconvenient.
The main problem I have is tearing. The two players I got to work are VLC and the Gnome Movie Player program. I tried getting mplayer to work but I was a little confused on that one. It works better on Movie Player but there are some formats it won't play the audio on even though I have the "ubuntu-restricted-extras" installed.
Anyone have some tips on better media players out there? Does mplayer do better?
Since upgrading to Lucid, I haven't been able to play videos in Totem or VLC player, though I've got all the necessary codecs. The sound plays, but I just get a black screen with (very) occasional flashes of the image. However, I've found that SMPlayer DOES work.
Is there a way to make it the default, so that when I double-click the vids, it will fire up automatically, instead of my having to use right-click/open-with ? I've tried changing it in the multimedia tab of 'Preferred Software', but that doesn't seem to work.
I'm having problems with VLC and totem.
