Nov 8, 2010I have a Samsung TV that can be and is connected via DLNA with my XP machines wirelessly. There is NO WAY I can make it see my Ubuntu machine though.I have the 10.04 and I have tried almost all the available programs for this OS.Name it and I have tried it: Mediatomb,ushare, PS3MediaServer and others that I cannot recall right now.These programs are installed with no errors and they look like they run correctly, their web interfaces work fine but that's all.None of them has been ever found by the TV,-but it can see the native Samsung program PC Share runnning on the XPs.What's the problem with my Ubuntu system and it cannot be recognised by the TV?It's not that it won't play this or that file. It's that it won't see the server AT ALL.

Mar 10, 2009i want to resolve the above error. I'm using systemimager to autoinstall system images on pc's connected in lan. while doing this i got the error No DHCPOFFERS received. Also at the time of booting my pc it shows the message No dhcp and/or proxyDHCP offers recieved. But i've started the dhcpd deamon on my pc. Also the systemimager rsync deamon is running. The two pc's are also connected in lan properly.
Still while autoinstalling the image on client it fails showing the error message... No DHCPOFFERS recieved. what do i do in order to make my autoinstall work properly? How do i come to know whether the dhcp server is running or not? What will be the exact problem in autoinstalling?

Aug 21, 2010I want to set a up a network of inter connected pcs, for example on pc A linux is installed.now pcs B, C , D, etc should connect to A and do there work, for example A want to do C/C++, development, whereas B wants to do some PERL development or whatever, this is just an example, 2 different pc users might do same work also, and the connecting pcs may have Windows or linux or bsd.OSes now what h/w or s/w is required and what steps are required to set up this network, main pc would be connected to internet and also connected pcs might want to use internet also..have installed opensuse edulife , and use this as PC A for testing.. and I use bridged dsl Broadband connection to connect to internet , by the username and password provided by the ISP, in windows its easy to setup this connection, however not able to do on linux,

Sep 25, 2010My problem is that I need to move a moderately complex system from an old system to a new system. The old system is a core 2 duo running on an asus p5k-se (p35 chipset) M/B, Nvidia 8500 gt, 3 x sata II hard disks, 1 x sata dvd, 1 x ide hd, 4GB ram. It runs opensuse 11.1 kde 4 as a desktop system + samba server, apache server, database server + other non-opensuse software. In addition some of the opensuse software is not the default 11.1 versions as later versions were required. The nvidia driver is from the nvidia repo. There are several file systems, some under LVM.
The new system will be a core5 760, asus p7p55d-e M/b (p55 chipset), nvidia 240, 3 x sata II HD, 1 x sata dvd, 4GB ram and possibly 1 x ide HD. This M/B also includes USB 3 & sata III. I have no USB 3 devices but this may eventually change. I have no plans for sata III and believe that it may be better to attach any sata III SSD to the sata II bus.
What I would like to do is to move the hard disks from old system to the new system. What I would like to know is, if the system is left at 11.1, is the system likely to work with the new hardware. If the answer is no, if the system was upgraded to 11.3, would the transfer of the hard disks then work? In order to upgrade from 11.1 to 11.3 using the DVD i believe I should get rid of all non-default repos. I assume that I should also get rid of anything that was installed from them, e.g. the nvidia driver and any software versions installed manually outside RPM. Also is there any default 11.1 software that should be removed either before or after the upgrade to 11.3
Fedora :: Won't Boot With Second HD Connected?
Nov 18, 2009I wanted to set up a dual disk dual boot system with Fedora 11 on one SATA Hard Disk and Windows XP on the second. I installed Fedora 11 and it mirrored itself onto both disks.This wasn't what I intended, so I removed one disk and installed Windows XP onto the other with the intention of disabling the mirror on the Fedora OS.As expected, I found that Windows will boot up happily on its own, or with both disks connected, but Fedora will now only boot up if the Windows disk is not connected.But when I checked the LVM settings, I found that there is no mirroring set up. I also checked my BIOS and RAID is not enabled.Is there a way that I can get Fedora to boot up with both disks nnected without having to reinstall it?

Oct 22, 2010I just built a file server for a photographer using F13 with 4x1TB HDD's in a raid1+0 for 2TB of storage, which is what the photog expects her annual accumulation of images is.When the 2TB volume is filled up she will transfer those images from the server to a 2TB external USB HDD, but she thinks each week she would like to backup new files from the server to the USB HDD.So I have two questions:1) what is good backup software to use on F13 that will only update the files on the USB drive that actually need updating?2) I have never connected a USB HDD to a Linux box, do all USB drives get similarly named in /dev/ so that a script could detect that it has been attached? If so, how are they named, ie. sda, sdb, dvd, fd, etc.?I am developing a simple web interface where the photographer can log into and see server health info at a glance, see raid and HDD status, log files, etc., and I would like to have a button on the web interface page that the user could click after plugging the USB HDD into the server and have a script find it in /dev/ and mount it, then start the backup application to backup/sync the storage volume to the USB HDD with no other user input.

Jan 9, 2010easy I managed to install Oracle, JBoss and other software, connected to it via VNC. Once finished I decided to move the box to far corner and work with it via putty and vnc. But then problems with vnc started. Whenever I tried to connect via vnc I got background screen with cross cursor and then it stuck, no login screen. I spent a lot of time trying to fix it. I red many forums and this one in partucular : VNC is not working - openSUSE Forums Nothing helped. I have noticed that vnc doesn't work if monitor not physically connected to the box.
Once monitor connected, even if monitor is not powered up, vnc resumed to work correctly. But it looked senseless for me, what a point to have Linux box controlled via vnc if I still have to connect monitor, it drove me crazy !Today I have found a solution and want to share with you. Apr 14, 2011Yesterday I updated my kernel, and then i could not run my wireless card, since I use the broadcom STA driver and there was no update on rpmfusion yet.
I googled and downloaded akmod, and all got fixed after a reboot.
Latter last night, i got an update message in wich, among other updates, was rmpfusion's aforementioned update, I installed it.
After a reboot, I am connected to my network, ifconfig throws normal stuff (default gateway, ip adresses and subnet mask) and i LOOKS like there should be no problem
however I'm unable to connect to any website, or access any remote server via ssh, or ping anything.
Also, i disabled ipv6 in firefox just in case, and it was no use.
