View 3 RepliesI have a fresh install of Fedora 13 on my Toshiba Notebook. I am able to connect to the internet but can not browse neither by Ethernet or wireless. I have an Intel Pro/Wireless 2200BG wireless card and a Marvell Technology Group LTD 88E8036 PCI-E fast Ethernet card installed. The command ifconfig shows an ip address. I am able to ping by URL and IP address. It does the same with the firewall disabled. I have also disabled the iptable & ip6tables in the services. I have even set fire fox not to use proxy settings. I am just not able to browse at all.

I checked the firewall settings also, it seems ok to me.3. I tried restarting sshd also. " /etc/init.d/sshd restart " but to no avail.4. Before when i was using 5.3, it was not a problem..!!5. View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an external hard drive connected to my router. From Windows I can access it, but from Ubuntu I can see the hard drive, but when I try to access, I'm asked for a password. However my network does not have a password neither the hard drive.
What must I do?
I have a Dell Mini 10v with a fresh install of latest Ubuntu Netbook Edition. I have enabled proprietary drivers in order to get the WiFi card to work and managed to connect at home, starbucks etc. Good stuff.
For some reason I can detect but not connect to the WiFi at work - I get prompted for the pword and after entering it the WiFi indicater will pulse for a while only to return to the pword prompt. yes, I have the right pword and can connect my iPhone and other laptops. I am really puzzled by this and really need to get on the WiFi at work - wired connection works.
my colleague has the same dell model with windows 7 installed and is able to connect fine - I really don't want that @@@@ installed just to get WiFi. I know password entry error is the obvious solution but I connect new windows devices to it routinely and had other people try too.
can't access internet. The up and down icon appears by the network connection (upper right hand corner). When I review connection properties, I see that the computer has a valid address, subnet, gatway, dns, etc... But it still can't connect to the internet. I can't ping external addresses either. But I can access internal addresses (local router).
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have recently installed Fedora 12 on my pc but I am not able to browse the internet although the network icon shows the computer is connected.
I tried the dig command and got the following message:global options +cmd; connection timed out; servers could not be reached;
Heres the set up I have: one eeepc running ubuntu netbook. with a usb wifi dongle, this is connected to a parabolic antenna i made out of pizza boxes and tin foil. One fujitsu laptop running ubuntu 10.10. the eee connects to the internet via the dongle. then the laptop connects to the eee. I set this up by using network manager. I created a new wirless connection and called it "UbuntuAdhoc". The on-board card connected to this without issue and the laptop was able to connect to the new wireless broadcast by the eees on-board card.
This worked perfectly untill I rebooted the eee. Now the eee is unable to conect to the internet if the on-board caard is conected to "ubuntuadhoc". also the dongle now wants to conect to "ubuntuadhock" too.
I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 as a dual boot along woth Win PX Pro x64 bit. I'm new to Linux and I need help. For the life of me I can't seem to get connected to the Internet. I have cable high speed with a router and 2 laptops on the network.

It is currently mounted under /media/backup and I can browse it all I want, but still can't write.
I have a Rogers mobile Internet stick. When I plug it into a Windows laptop, it installs software that manages Internet. Would I be able to get Internet if I plugged it into my server running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS? What do I need to do to download Apache Web server onto my Ubuntu? I searched for Apache in Software Center but no results I'm not connected to the Internet so no packages updates so far.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a VNC connection running to my Ubuntu 10.04 server [URL]. This was running fine for a day or 2 after that, sometimes it worked and sometimes not. When it didn't work, I could connect with VNC (i got a gray window with the cursor) but no login screen was shown.
After some testing I now know what the root cause is. When I disconnect the screen from my server, I don't get the login screen. When I connect the screen (even if it is not powered) after a reboot, I can see the login screen. Next I was looking for some logging that could indicate some problems. I looked into "/var/log/Xorg.0.log" and there I see a difference when I connect/disconnect the screen. When the screen is disconnected, the log says:
Code:
(II) intel(0): Integrated Graphics Chipset: Intel(R) Pineview G

(II) intel(0): Output VGA1 has no monitor section

I am unable to get my intel pro/wireless 3945abg connected to my router. The firmware has been installed and at first was even able to connect, but now the access point doesn't even show up in network manager. I am currently able to connect using a USB wireless adapter, but for certain reasons, would prefer to use the former. I've looked over this page with no results.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI am relatively new to Fedora 15, but used 13 for a while with no issues. Yesterday a windows user put a flash drive into my computer for me to copy something on to. (This may be conincidental.) I then put the computer into suspend or hibernate or whatever and now it won't start up. At all. And I'm stuck as 'everything' I need is on that computer.

I will need very specific directions, because I don't normally use Ubuntu.

View 4 Replies View RelatedYesterday I updated my kernel, and then i could not run my wireless card, since I use the broadcom STA driver and there was no update on rpmfusion yet.
I googled and downloaded akmod, and all got fixed after a reboot.
Latter last night, i got an update message in wich, among other updates, was rmpfusion's aforementioned update, I installed it.
After a reboot, I am connected to my network, ifconfig throws normal stuff (default gateway, ip adresses and subnet mask) and i LOOKS like there should be no problem
however I'm unable to connect to any website, or access any remote server via ssh, or ping anything.
Also, i disabled ipv6 in firefox just in case, and it was no use.
WiFi on this laptop worked fine for a few months then went out; after a reinstall of ubuntu (since 9.xx had come out since then anyway) the wireless still refused to even see networks, let alone connect to them; under Wireless Networks in the NM, I just see a greyed out 'disconnected'. This got me to thinking that it may have just been a hardware issue, but I find that hard to believe. Anyway, here's the pertinent information:
Started off with an lshw command just to see if a network adapter is even listed as being connected: `lshw`
Code:
id:

As an addendum : I found this driver project but they claim to require a 2.6.8+ kernel; a quick `uname -r` shows that mine is 2.6.31, and an `apt-cache search linux-image` reveals that to be the highest available from repos; do Debian/Ubuntu distros not use more recent kernels or is this an Ubuntu-specific kernel naming scheme? If so, to what would it be comparable? I'm hesitant to try to install this and change my firmware if it's likely I'll be borking something.

View 1 Replies View RelatedThis is my second day with ubuntu on a dell mini 10v with broadcom wireless card. I hooked up to a wired connection and ubuntu installed the drivers for the broadcom card. When I put the cursor over the wireless icon on the desktop it shows the name of my wireless connection, active, and my ip address but when I open firefox I get a "server not found". I'm confused as what to put in the boxes for ssid, mode, bssid, mac address, and mtu under network connections. I've tried pretty much every conceivable method at my disposal, even went on my d-link router settings and nothing has worked.I do not have windows installed, using 10.4

So I bought a entire new laptop for the task and it landed on a Acer eMachine 350.
Trouble here trouble there I finally came down to a ubuntu netbook edition, the latest one for the moment.
I had to use jockey-gtk to install drivers to my broadcom network card which took a while, but it now says I have a driver!

I'm having a problem with my computer connecting to a speficic wifi. The problem seems to be between my computer and this wifi, because I can connect to other networks and other computers can connect to this wifi. I do manage to get a connection, but I can't ping any website, I always get an unknown host error.I have managed to connect to this network only once: it wasn't pinging and then it eventually started working, but I don't recall doing anything that made it work.

I am running a dual-boot with Ubuntu 10.10 and Windows 7 and I can't stay connected to the internet with Ubuntu, but Windows does. My router is a D-Link GamerLounge DGL-4500. I have wireless internet access for about 10 seconds but then it drops. Access to the router doesn't go away though. Other computers can connect to it just fine, and my computer (Toshiba Satellite A505) has connected to every other one I've tried on. I can still log in to it and change settings and all that, but I can't access the internet through it. I also can't ping the router.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI can connect to my router but no web pages will load etc... I can connect my phone to the router and USB tether it to my laptop and everything works fine. I can also connect to my neighbors router and everything works fine.
I have tried put my routers IP in /etc/resolve.conf but to no avail. I also tried putting 8.8.8.8.
Edit: Toshiba Sattelite A215 laptop (RS690 wireless card?) and a Linksys router.
im using mandrake linux 2010.0 , and i connected my router cable (dlink) to the computer, and it detects without needing configuration to the 'eth0' and it shows me the ip the dns and gateway, everything ok, but then i go in firefox it says that i couldent connect because theres no internet connection, ive looked at the proxys the firewall, tried to uninstal the eth0, the ppp0 and install then again and still the same, does any one have an idea of what could be?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI've configured an FC14 installation and have been able to do everything over the internet as needed. Then I added a VPN client and can connect to the VPN. I can't ping a server I know is available on the VPN. Ping hangs, not getting any response (including timing out).My other Linux box (running all of the same software) can get to the server on the other side of the VPN so I know everything is okay except for my configuration.I had the same problem when I originally configured the other system and remember that I had to manually edit some setting in a file but don't remember what it was.
