I installed Debian 8.1 with iceweasel 38.2.1esr-1~deb8u1
Whenever I want to open a youtube fragment I do hear the sound but the screen just remains green. I already googled the issue but found no solution that works.
I have to use Chromium to play videos on youtube and other sites. Using iceweasel i have video but no sound. If I hit F5 (refreshing site) then I have sound, but nov video.
I made a alsa-base.conf following the instructions in this topic [URL] .... without success

The following url streams nicely in Chromium but Iceweasel complains that FlashPlayer needs to be installed!

I can't remember facing this problem with any other YouTube videos, just this one!

With Iceweasel, when I watch HTML5 Youtube videos, I only have the quality 720p as the highest.
In the same machine, Windows 8.1, I can watch in 1080p in Internet Explorer.
I guess that it's not a problem of Iceweasel but about how Youtube serves the videos to my system. Is that correct?
I can't hear the music playing on my speakers, BUT i can hear the music playing in my headphones when i insert my headphones jack.
I have tried configuring aslamixer, tried configuring the sound devices but nothing seems to work. i have also installed a lot of music players such as asla player, audacity and so on. i also tried configuring the aslamixer from the terminal but it did's work as well.
I must add that i have linux ubuntu netbook remix 9.10 i386 installed and windows xp home edition sp3. In windows, i have no problem playing any sound. (I am new to linux <2 days> but very experimented with windows <17 years>).
When I watch any video on YouTube my screen will turn off (no HDMI connection) and then it will turn on after a couple seconds (10 -40 seconds). When I played Borderlands 2 the screen is completely fine.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am new to using linux. i have installed gOS linux recently on my system. everything is working fine including the updates, videos and graphics but i cannot hear any sound. my pc configuration is intel dual coree 3.4 ghz, 3 gb ddr2 667 ram, intel 945 gcl (integrated sound driver by sigmatel), 160 gb 7200 rpm hard drive( seagate), nvidia 6600 LE 512 ddr2, creative 2.1. i have tried changing the default sound driver from intel hda alsa mixer which is the default as sound driver in the system to sigamel oss mixer but that proved to be of no use actually. i have also connected a few of my friend' pc s to my system to find out any problems if there is with the sound box but there isn't any.the speaker is just working fine with those systems. but when it comes to my own system i cannot hear any sound.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI can play sound files with aplay, esdplay, and vlc, but I don't get any sound from iceweasel and chromium.
I installed a squeeze base system (without gnome and without the standard system utilities), then added (using --no-install-recommends) xserver-xorg-core, xdm, fluxbox, alsa-base, alsa-utils, alsa-oss, iceweasel, chromium-browser. Here I checked for sound and there was none from the browsers. I have since installed vlc, esound-clients, alsaplayer-esd, gstreamer0.10-alsa, and other software that didn't look sound-related and didn't change the symptoms.
Setting ICEWEASEL_DSP to "aoss" or "esddsp" doesn't help. Neither does "chmod -R 777 /dev/{audio,dsp,midi,mixer,snd}". snd-pcm-oss and snd-mixer-oss are loaded. Both my account and root are in group "audio". Running the browsers as root doesn't help.

In case it makes any difference, all of this happens in a qemu-kvm virtual machine with an emulated es1370 soundcard. Same with sb16 soundcard.
I would prefer not to install everything vaguely related to sound in the repositories in the hope of things fixing themselves. That's just ugly, plus I have only 200MB free space left.
In the current release of Debian, is there a reason that I can only hear sound through one speaker. With any other distro, the sound can be heard through both.
View 3 Replies View RelatedSo I'm pretty awful at keeping Debian up to date, I guess. I'm using cron-apt to fetch updates every night, then apply them whenever I get around to it. Well, I neglected that last part for a month or two, and after some routine downtime to clear the case of dust, I decided it was time to upgrade. So I ran the command, everything checked out fine, and I was on my merry way. Until a half-hour ago when I accidentally shutdown the computer (I use the same zsh prompt on each computer, so I got them confused.) I turned it back on, only to be greeted with a black screen after all the services started up.
Everything works: ircd, MPD, etc. EXCEPT, of course, X. At first I thought the update broke SLIM, but after checking htop and doing a killall slim, it doesn't appear to be running (the screen remains black.) I hit Control-Alt-f2 to get to get back to a terminal, then tried doing startx, which freezes the computer entirely. All the network services stop, I can't SSH in, etc. It's dead. If I'm not mistaken, Xorg.0.log should say something, but I'm not a huge expert on it. The last line isn't an error, I can tell you that. So what's the deal here? apt-get remove xorg and start over?
I recently came to Debian. As I have an ati card, I tried the proprietary drivers first, but then came back to radeon (open-source). In the process, I think I may have broke my xorg.conf . Sometimes, when the monitor goes into sleep mode, when I came back, the screen remains black (sometimes I see just the cursor).
Here is my xorg.conf

Also, I have lots of backups in my X11 folder, like xorg.conf.fglrx-3, xorg.conf.original-1, or backup.xorg.conf. Is it safe to remove them? What should I do about the main xorg.conf?
I have Debian wheezy, and win xp, installed on my Toshiba Satellite P205-S6337 laptop. The laptop speakers do not work when the computer starts up, but they work in windows. After fiddling with the sound preferences and making sure the volume was turned up with alsamixer. I tried plugging in headphones.I could hear sound on the headphones. Then when I unplugged the headphones the laptop's built in speakers work again! This wouldn't be such a problem except I have to plug in and unplug a pair of headphones to make them work.
View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen Debian 6 (amd 64, testing) is loaded, before desktop appears, for a while, the screen is black and three strange green rows appear. Then, all is ok and I can see a normale desktop and start to use Debian. So, an error in video config could be possible. Linked to this fact (I think) , there is the impossibility to modify the resolution screen (that is fixed to 1024x768) and the refresh frequency. I've tried to find "xorg.conf" in order to modify it like various guides suggest me, but this file is not present.

Using Debian Lenny Ice Weasel was crashing when I try to use the full screen in you tube videos, and sometimes I get logged out of Debian. And now when I try to watch a video it tells me I need to update flashplayer. How do I update flashplayer in Lenny. I tried this and I don't have the program installed. Do I need to add the backports to my sources.list first. Appreciate help in fixing this problem.

Some times, when watching full screen videos on: „you tube”, the only way to exit from full screen is to navigate with Alt+Tab to another open window, which cancel full screen mode, or Alt+F4.
Esc and „Exit from full screen mode” down right button, do not cancel full screen. Also on vimeo full screen videos freezes on half way.
I read that these may be because of VGA so i changed the VGA adapter, problem persists!

What I mean by black screen is that whenever I view a video or if there is video content anywhere on the page, my whole monitor goes black for around 3 seconds then plays the video content.
I am running Jessie 8.2 by the way.
I hear no sound with pulseaudio, but I hear the "ready for login" sound after the x server starts. OS: Ubuntu x86 10.04

WRT "no flash youtube video"? OS is debian wheezy with iceweasel 31.80. I have completely removed adobe flash (I think). I have installed the html5 video everywhere addon, and have allowed youtube to set cookies. However, when I go to youtube and attempt to play a vid, noscript prompts me to allow googlevideo.com scripting. I am somewhat reluctant to use any google services, and am puzzled that youtube, which proclaims html5 as default (now), would need the googlevideo service? Note that I have removed flash because of its past insecurities. I guess the real question: "Does youtube (or iceweasel) really support html5?
View 11 Replies View RelatedIf I watch a video on YouTube, the browser crashes when I try to change to another webpage. Typically, the video will play through but a few have crashed midway. It always crashes on changing the webpage after a video starts (whether it finishes first or not). There is no error message. I have searched the forum for 'iceweasel crash' and didn't see anything quite matching my own problem. I did look at related posts and none of them solved my problem. I'm not sure if the videos are HTML5 or flash. Perhaps a mix of both.
There's no problem with browsing regular pages, even if they have video advertisements in a sidebar. This seems to only be happening on YouTube. I have turned off all browser extensions and plugins with no improvement.
I've searched the internet and seen where there was a security problem with Flashplayer a month ago and the symptoms (if hacked into) sound similar to what's happening to me but I am using the latest version of Iceweasel and this bug is supposed to be fixed.
My Debian install is only about a week old and was a clean install to a formatted partition. I've added a few minor apps since install but nothing that would effect this. I also installed nVidia's proprietary graphics drivers. I can watch dvd movies, MP4's, .flv files, etc with no problems.
after an update i cannot my pc remains in the log on screen. I insert my password then the screen goesn and of and after 4 secondit goes back in the logon screen. I run the following
sudo dpkg-reconfigure gnome-applets
sudo dpkg-reconfigure gnome-session
and i receive a message that both gnome and applets are not installed.
I've installed ScriptSafe on my Chrome Browser, when it's enabled Youtube videos loads slow despite there are ads displayed on the video. Is this a bug?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI installed ubuntu via virtualbox one day for fun, just to test it out. I didn't really need it, so i deleted the partition it was on and resized my hard drive. Thing is, when i startup my computer, ubuntu is still listed as an operating system, but whenever i go to choose it, my computer says "this file is missing or corrupt." I was just wondering if i make it so Ubuntu is not even shown on the screen anymore.
