View 4 RepliesI have just installed ubuntu 10.04 and followed that up with Skype. I am running skype 2.1.0.81, downloaded from skype website.
Problem is that my mic which is integrated does not work. On the skype test call, i can hear alright, but when i speak can't hear myself. I have diabled auto ajust mic setting in Skype, but still no joy.
I run skype, I have to connect/disconnect at least 3 times for the other person to be able to hear me , not see, just hear. and very often during this process skype crashes. and the video quality is just terrible compared to when i use to run skype on windows from the same machine. I ran skype from the terminal and im just wondering what all this output means

I have installed Skype 2.1 (Beta) in linuxmint Julia, now when I am communicating with anyone or video conferencing, I am able to hear the other person but the other person is unable to hear my voice, I talked with someone else who is facing the same problem in Ubuntu.

I have real player installed. I suspect that the fedora 10 is unable to detect my sound card. My sound card is inbuilt in motherboard(Intel).

I looked at "Sound Preferences", and noticed that when I click on the "Input" tab, the area where you can adjust the volume is set at the minimum, and grayed out, so I can't adjust it.
I'm literally about a week into using Linux, and I'm using Ubuntu Netbook Remix. I want to download Skype, really bad. However, I downloaded it, and tried installing it through... er, Ubuntu Software Center. Yeah. And it went to almost finished but never completely finished installing. I had it sitting for about five hours, and nothing.that's pretty much what it looked like for a few hours.I'm kind of desperate and really frustrated.(Also, if anyone wants to help me now that I have your attention, it takes for-freaking-ever to switch in between applications. I got an audio disc to play in kaffeine but not in amorok, in setting of amarok i hit the configure phonon and pick my audio device hit test and i can hear sounds.
no monitor, no xorg, just a regular server, like everyone has. So any ideas how can Skype work, still without xorg installed?

I have tried configuring aslamixer, tried configuring the sound devices but nothing seems to work. i have also installed a lot of music players such as asla player, audacity and so on. i also tried configuring the aslamixer from the terminal but it did's work as well.
I must add that i have linux ubuntu netbook remix 9.10 i386 installed and windows xp home edition sp3. In windows, i have no problem playing any sound. (I am new to linux <2 days> but very experimented with windows <17 years>).

"skype p2p connect failed"
So I rebooted pc, router, performed the command: "rm -rf ~/.Skype" to no avail. Next I removed teamviewer and tried everything again & still the message persists. Skype was set to not use port 80 already, but if it won't log on then I can't get to full the options menu.

Skype started to work well. However, after I rebooted the system, all I get is a blank screen with a blinking cursor. I am able ot get to tty by doing ctrl+alt+f2 but am not sure how to proceed from the above. I also erased the above packages thinking that that might solve. But it hasnot solved the issue.
I have been using ubuntu for a good time and now i want to install opensuse.I have dwnlded the new (11.2) version 2 times but on installing it says unable to create repository. it takes a full day to dwnld here.. please suggest how to use the existing dwnld or a way toget a correct dwnld. i think the earlier one is corrupt.

I have just installed ubuntu 10.10 and i have noticed that my download speed is quite slow. i have an excellent connection to the internet and i didn't have any speed problems when i used windows vista. (i'm using a friend's windows 7 os right now and everything is fine.) how do i modify the download/bandwidth feature that is naturally a part of the ubuntu package so that it's not a problem anymore? the most i think i saw it download packages and files was 37 kb/s.
Basically, the kind of downloads i'm doing are for installing new packages to ubuntu, and that took ages. i even tried to download ubuntu 10.04 from ubuntu.com and it would have taken almost 3 hours to complete!
I have a minimal install, and want to download the latest versions of only the packages I have installed.
What is the easiest way to do this with slackpkg?
So far it seems to want to download everything...
my all audio/video files can be opened via VLC player but I can just 'see' them working properly .. I can't listen to them.
Should I configure something ?
In Ubuntu Linux , I could do this without any configuration.
