Jul 12, 2011Having difficulties configuring a driver for an Edimax wireless usb [URL]... I have downloaded the driver, and after make clean I am running into problems.When I enter make I get the following.

Ubuntu :: Can't Reach Wireless Network Configuration
Jan 4, 2010In Ubuntu 9.10 (fresh install, not an upgrade from 9.04) on an ASUS EeePC 900, I was using wireless networking at home, which worked well. I took the netbook to work a few times and did not using it at home all that period of time. I connected it as a wired network (DHCP) at work, and it "just worked" fine (no configuration was needed). Now I tried to use it at home and wireless no longer works for all users. In System > Preferences > Network connections I can access the wireless configuration and it is still there, still with all the correct settings as worked before. However, in the network manager I access from the upper panel via the antenna icon, it now only lists a Wired network. The wireless network isn't in the list at all. No upgrades were done. I do those from home and tried to do one this morning but since wireless did not work I could not accomplish it.
I could hook it to a wired network, so if fixing this needs to upgrade something, that's doable (but I'd think it should not be needed since wireless did work before). I was going to try things like delete all networks and start again, but since that might lose information about a possible bug, I'm holding off.

Ubuntu Networking :: Manual Wireless Interface Configuration?
Mar 30, 2011I am trying to manually configure my wireless interface similar to how I manually configure my wired interfaces on Ubuntu 10.10 (Maverick Meerkat). I have two wired interfaces that use static IP addresses. I set up these interfaces using /etc/network/interface file. I disabled network manager (it was never working correctly to start with). Now, I want to connect my wireless interface (wlan0) to an unsecured wireless private network. I know/can find out all the information about the wireless network (ssid, etc). Also, I need to do this without disconnecting either of my wired interfaces.
I have looked all over the internet/forums for information about how to set up this interface, but nothing I found meets my need. Is there any way I can use iwconfig or the interface file to connect to this wireless connection? Or is there any other tool that will allow me to manually do this?
Ubuntu :: ESSID Configuration - Wireless Network With Static IP
Apr 3, 2011The wireless network on my laptop is configured with a static IP. (not using nm). When I take the laptop out of the range of my wireless router the essid is becoming off/any therefore when I'm back in range the connection is not reestablished and to re-enable the connection I gotta do "iwconfig wlan0 essid <essid name>" otherwise there is no connection. Make sure that essid stays configured unless I manually want to change it?

Oct 26, 2015I have done a clean install of debian 8.2 (jessie) on a new PC. I am working through some of the issues that were not correctly installed. One of them is the wireless network. On startup, I have a wireless connection. At some point within the first 5-25 minutes of being logged in and doing computer stuff (there is no known action that leads to the reaction), the wireless disconnects from the network and will not reconnect. The network-manager-gnome shows three horizontal dots; the system settings> network shows all of the available networks, the strength of their signal, and the "connecting" circle spins. This behavior occurs with both WPA and insecure networks.
I have followed the guidelines for Debian>WiFi>HowToUse (https://wiki.debian.org/WiFi/HowToUse). Nothing appears amiss when following the Network-Manager>Gnome portion of the instructions. I was going to try the alternate WICD program, but one has to uninstall network-manager to use wicd and synaptic also wants to remove something called "gnome", too-- uninstalling a package with that name makes me uneasy. I have noticed that the installed versions of network-manager (0.9.10.0-7) and network-manager-gnome (0.9.10.0-2) don't exactly agree, but I doubt that that is significant.

Networking :: Add - Wireless Configuration In Interfaces
Jun 28, 2011Is there a way to add the wireless network which has a WPA/WPA2/certificate + Peap+MsChap+user+password to /etc/network/interfaces? Am trying to do a bash script that asks user and password and dumps it with addition info such as Peap/Mschapv2/cert into /etc/network/interfaces so it could be automatically activated. Any Ideas? Am on ubuntu 10.04 - using the GUI network-manager it connects without any problem after adding the user/pass/cert/mschapv2/peap. But I wanted to be configured thru command line?

Ubuntu :: Wireless Router Configuration Page Not Showing All Devices On LAN
Feb 1, 2010I went to see if the iPhone was connected and it wasn't listed--and she was now on my wireless network, on the Internet. For the past month, I have experienced slow Internet (the Qwest people came over three times to fix the problem, to no avail.) And, when my laptop and desktop are turned off, the modem still shows activity, as if someone was downloading large files. Qwest insists that my network is secure and no one is using my network (and my house was built in 1997, so the wiring is fairly new and I have had NO issues with Internet/phone and had Qwest service longer than I can remember).
To make a long story short, I am concerned that my router has been hacked. I live in a rural area, so there's no teenagers or weird-o's around that I know of that would do that (unlike city/suburban areas)--and my Linksys router is "lying" to me, as my nephew was ON MY NETWORK and the SSID, MAC address and IP number was not listed on the LAN device list--only my laptop/desktop are listed, and she was happily checking emails on my network. I have changed my WPA2 password three times just in case, no fix.

How do I get it to save? I tried several times.Maybe there's a terminal command? The computer is for a COMPLETE newb who only wants it to browse web, but they're not going to know how to connect every time even if I explain.

Oct 19, 2010I have a Brother DCP585CW and have installed the drivers from Brother and it worked fine on Ubuntu 9.10 on both my desktop and laptop. I have installed 10.04 on both and now the problem. It works fine on the desktop but I get a problem on the laptop. It is a wireless printer and I can print to it but only after I do 2 things each time I reboot the laptop. I have to configure it through cups (http://localhost:631) because it keeps getting set to being connected via USB and letter rather than A4 paper on each boot but the correct setting is:

May 21, 2010I have a slow machine, mainly a Celeron with 250gb HD.This machine is not being used, so I was planning to install a Linux distro and create a bunch of VMs for development.Which distro should I choose? I plan to use this machine mainly as a small "hypervisor" to other vms.Is it possible? What do you suggest? (Buying another machine is out of question, since I would like to know if it's possible give a purpose like this to the Celeron)

However, I'm having issues with my WiFi connection. I'm running KDE and connected to the network, but I can't access any webpages or ping, for example, google.com. Jan 21, 2010I'm having trouble getting my wireless card (RNX-G300LX, from Rosewill) working with my Debian install. I had it working at one point in time, but (apparently) something has gone wrong, as it no longer connects. The network I'm trying to connect to uses WPA2. When I try to start up my wireless card as follows:

Debian Configuration :: Wireless Only For Main User?
Mar 24, 2010I don't exactly know what happened but for some reason only the main user has access now to the networkmanager and is able to connect to internet. If I switch to another user, the networkmanager reports no connectivity and the PCMCIA card dies. Does anyone know what to do? It seems like an access feature, related to permissions or something.
I checked but the user is added to the netdev group...
Debian Configuration :: Wireless Iface Cannot Be Reached From Other PC
Apr 14, 2010I have very strange problem with kernels 2.6.33 and 2.6.34. I have a wireless card Linksys WMP200 using rt61pci. It connects just fine using WPA2 and works, but in less than 20 minutes I still can reach any machine on my network, but this machine cannot be reached by the others (i.e. before these 20 minutes others can ping me). With default kernel 2.6.26 (Lenny) all is OK. I do not use any firewall. When this happens logs do not change - wpa_supplicant's log is normal (associated), syslog is fine, dmesg shows no errors. Sofar I have tried this:
1. acpi=off as boot parameter
2. both new kernels 2.6.33 and 2.6.34 are compiled with CONFIG_CF80211_DEFAULT_PS disabled
3. iwconfig wlan0 power off
4. Tried ndiswrapper. The device is up and scans fine but wpa2 is not working...
5. Compiled a kernel without ACPI
This is all I did without any luck and I really need the new kernels because I have a quatech device attached to the machine...

Jul 9, 2010Finally took the plunge and decided to give debian a go, not done so before as feared it would be too complicated. Net install went ok. Used to wiki to get me wireless up and running by copying those commands provided most of which made no sense (why the separate kernel image for wireless?).
Anyway seems to have worked so now to the problem I can't connect to my wireless network its not broadcasting so configured it manually the way I do in ubuntu through the net manager, it doesn't connect at all.
Debian Configuration :: Wireless Not Working With Sid And New Device?
Dec 8, 2010The computer networking works fine with a normal static setup, but adding a USB wireless device is not successful. It is my own network so the wpa-ssid and wpa-psk are known to work with Lenny and a previous wireless device.The device is recognized (lsusb) and the driver is confirmed to be in the kernel (lsmod). Here is the iwconfig output:

After typing: ifconfig wlan0 192.168.1.144 up I can ping that address, but it is not working. I have just done a fresh install of Sid so that I could get the 2.6.35 kernel which contains the ath9k_htc driver for the USB wireless device that I am using. The firmware is ar9271.fw but my source of that is questionable because it does not seem readily available. I am temporarily using a PCMCIA wired connection which is what I am using to connect to the computer via telnet. (This is just for convenience so as to avoid getting up all the time.) Here is the ifconfig output:

That file works with the previous USB wireless device under Lenny. Am I doing something wrong or is the driver and firmware just not up to snuff yet?
Debian Configuration :: Installing Wireless From Disk?
Dec 17, 2010How can I load packages from the cd? I installed from cd1 which I burned on a desktop, then installed Lenny onto a laptop. Works great, no problems except I have no way of connecting the laptop other than wireless.
I've found the network manager package on the cd, but don't have a clue how to install it. I really need to get the wireless working so I can install package manager, wi-fi radar and some other things. I tried putting the disk back in and thought rescue mode might bring me back to where I could select the individual packages I need, but that didn't work, it just wanted to go through another install. Thought there was a way to select individual packages and add them to the installation.
Debian Configuration :: Disable Wireless At Startup?
Dec 22, 2010I've been using Debian since the early days of Lenny being testing as OS on the same Computer. Its a Acer Aspire Notebook with switches for wireless and bluetooth. While booting Lenny my wireless and bluetooth stayed off as long as I didn't switch them on. But since squeeze they get activated ( you can see it by looking at the LED's ) the moment after the grub screen. I now do have to turn bluetooth and wireless off by hand everytime which is quite annoying since I mostly use eth0.
how to disable bluetooth and wireless per default in a way I can simply turn them back on by using the switch?
Debian Configuration :: Broadcom Wireless Will Not Connect
Jan 12, 2011I am attempting to get my laptop wireless to connect to my router. Wicd sees my router, I enter the known good password, and it reports bad password. Configuring router without wireless security and attempting to connect with wicd without security fails also. Laptop wireless has worked with other another linux distro, and windows.
Environment:Squeeze installed to Dell laptop with wireless: Bus 003 Device 002: ID 0a5c:4500 Broadcom Corp. BCM2046B1 USB 2.0 Hub (part of BCM2046 Bluetooth)
Wicd reports that it fails with this text:

Debian Configuration :: Wireless Not Working On Squeeze?
Feb 14, 2011I am moving over to debian from ubuntu, and the latest install is to an acer aspire one netbook, the wireless card seems to be working and I can see available networks and even connect to mine (with WPA encryption) via the gnome network manager, however opening a browser or pinging both local and external machines all fail. its as if the OS does not not know to use the card. The wired works fine.
If memory serves the card is identified by lspci as Atheros AR5007.
There is no reference to wlan0 in etc/network/interfaces.
I do not have that system on now and have to leave for work, but I can post any further info from conf files etc as required when i get home tonight... Just thought I'd post a quick description in case I'm missing something obvious...
