Please can some one help me to use my USB wireless card D-Link on my laptop.i want to configure it, I am using madriva 2010 my system Acer Aspire 4315.i want to know how to configure it and where to get special driver to download the driver.
Just re-installed Bodhi. Ran update, dist-update, set up connection and connection still slow or timing out and reporting errors in 'iwconfig'. This is 3rd re-install of this version. Have also tried 3.0 kernel and pae versions of Bodhi. Cannot get this connection up to speed and without errors. Atheros chipset ar9271.
Sorry for weird subject line and opening paragraph. Trying to make it easy to find and browse in case this gets solved and can help someone else. Not being a Linux guru, I can only hope to help others through my mistakes and ignorance.
I followed instructions to update driver listed at Linux Wireless.
In addition to following the directions at Linux Wireless, I also downloaded the GUI Program to install ath9k_htc.
No luck. My connection reports 1M/s and is reporting "invalid misc:" errors in iwconfig.
I'm running Midori browser but apt-get and wget are also downloading slowly.
I'm connecting to a Zyxel 660 series router using WPA/WPA2.
I recently bought a D-Link DIR-655 router capable of 802.11n operation, upgrading from a DIR-624 router only capable of 802.11g operation. While my overall setup uses wired connections, other people in the house prefer wireless, and the upgrade was undertaken more for a hoped for increase in wireless range, rather than the possibility of increased speed, since the router is located to accommodate the wired connections. However, to test the 802.11n operation I bought a D-Link DWA-130 USB dongle for my now 5-year old laptop, which comes with an otherwise satisfactory 100Mbs ethernet port(eth1) and an 802.11g wireless card(eth0). By checking the dmesg | grep firmware output after I plugged in the dongle I determined that the necessary firmware was rtl8192sfw.bin, which I found on the web, and downloaded into the directory /lib/RTL8192SU.
A subsequent reboot and then YaST > Network Devices > Network Settings showed the device as wlan0, but not configured. I changed the Network Setup Method to ifup (since I can see no way to do a device configuration in Network Manager), and configured the device, and at the same time deleted the configuration for the existing 802.11g wireless card(eth0). I then rebooted, went back into YaST to confirm the wlan0 device was configured and the 802.11g device (eth0) was not, changed the Network Setup Method back to Network Manager, rebooted again. Making sure that the router was set to only transmit/receive using 802.11n I then typed iwlist scan. To my surprise, the output showed first that the supposedly unconfigured eth0 device seemed to be still active, for it found my home network, and claimed that the protocol used was 802.11g. On the other hand, the newly configured wlan0 device produced the message: "Interface doesn't support scanning: Network is down".
First, should I expect iwlist scan to work for a device that shows as unconfigured? And even if it should work, shouldn't it show 802.11n as the protocol, assuming that the router is in fact telling the truth? Is there any independent means to determine if the router is only using 802.11n as it claims? Second, the overall goal is to make the wireless network in the house 802,11n only, and since the dongle is backward compatible with 802.11g, I would expect to permanently unconfigure the eth0 device and use the dongle, both here and on the road. I do not need two wireless connections on my laptopThe laptop is running SuSE 11.2 as of about a month ago. I have searched around and am trying to understand the difference between a hard link and symbolic link (soft link). I found this link is quite useful. But I am still not very clear. I understand soft link is not a copy of original file, but is a hard link a copy or not?
- the first of them is the router (firewall, htb, squid, etc.) - the second have installed apache2 - the third sql - and the last one is LTSP server for 40 client.
When the ThinClient connect to the LTSP server ewerything works good, but i can't see all of them on squid access log. Isee one ip address (LTSP server), but i want to see 40 ip adrresses. The same situation is in htb. It's doesn't work on the thin client. Is there any way to get this work that how i want ?
How to verify that Debian is running at 100 Mbps or 1000 Mbps? I can view the report from 'ifconfig eth0' but I can't see how fast the link has been established.
I recently set up a Debian-based gateway+router on a remote site. I've installed OpenVPN and made a VPN bridge to another network (that server is also Debian). The main network has all the resources and also a VoIP server (asterisk). Bridge seems to work fine, except that every time a Linksys phone is used to call - after a few seconds I get:
Jul 20 12:16:05 sklad kernel: [403987.817695] eth0: link down Jul 20 12:16:05 sklad kernel: [403987.817939] br0: port 1(eth0) entering disabled state Jul 20 12:16:07 sklad kernel: [403990.113701] eth0: link up, 100Mbps, full-duplex, lpa 0x4DE1
[Code]....
So whenever the phone is used, network falls down for a few seconds. And of course this breaks the call. There is also another Linksys box (analog-to-voip) and it works fine most of the time. However sometimes this "eth0 link down" happens too. There is nothing more in syslog to analyze, so I don't know where to dig. Physical device of eth0 is D-link DFE520.

I've been following the ubuntu documents on WLAN configuration, but it is far more convoluted and inconsistent with my system than I have patience. Is there an easier way?
I have Redhat 5.5 and want to configure my TP-LINK TL-WN321G 54Mbps USB Wireless Lan card with it. when i plugged my TP-LINK TL-WN321G 54Mbps USB Wireless Lan card into my system my /sbin/lspci is
Where i should start configuring with? when i plugges this in my windows machine. it works fine
I have "D-Link DWA-125 Wireless 150 USB Adapter". I can use this wireless adapter on my laptop, i can use it on my desktop as well but only when windows is running, im a newbie to fedora, today is my 2nd day and 3rd night, so pretty exited about it. i have installed fedora 13 on a different hard-disk on my desktop. when the computer is booting, there is an orange light on the adapter glowing, it turns off when the computer reaches the fedora loading screen. If i see fedora's Network Configuration window under the hardware's tab i see the "D-Link DWA-125 Wireless 150 USB Adapter" listed along with my lan card. Now if i go towards the clock on the top right to get the wireless connection working, it shows wireless network disconnected. I have tried creating wireless connection manually by inserting the SSID, macadress, BSSID, ,WPA passkey etc, but still doesnt works. when i try connecting using hidden wireless connection, i receive window for inserting keyring password again and again, stating that the login password does not match. but during all this time, i still havent seen the orange light glowing activity on the external usb adapter. If i restart the computer in windows the adapter/wireless connection works. also have checked the Network service, it seems that the service is up and running. i really require some assisstance on this,
i have noticed this, that if i go under network configuration. the first tab over there, inside devices i cant see my D-Link adapter, but if i switch onto the hardware tab it shows my lan card as well as my D-Link adapter. so does it means that the driver is missing? or any service which is disabled, however at this point of time i can get only using wired connection. please assist me. with this issue, im also downloading the 500 complete update as well for fedora, hoping that it may make it work.
My name is Dieter, from Belgium, new here. I installed suse 11.2 from the dvd. I bought a wificard that is supported under linux for this pc. Still my firefox does not connect to the internet. I set up the card in yast to dhcp. I find networks and can connect to them but that's where the story ends. This is some data, sorry for the layout, I have no experience in posting stuff in fora.figure out why i cannot connect to the internet?
Using openSuSE 11.4 D-Link DWL-520+ won't connect to my router. The computer recognises the wireless card is there and working but I can't get it to connect to the router. Not sure how to get it to connect.
Today I dug out an HP C7280 Wireless printer from my parents garage (very nice printer despite being 3 or so years old). I fixed it up and plugged it in and it worked like a charm. Only thing is I want to set it up to work wirelessly as we don't have any extra Printer cables. I cant get it to work though. Firstly, it has no IP address despite wireless being turned on in the printer.
Secondly, and this is probably the main problem, it has no IP address. It just says "No link" or "Not applicable" under network settings. After a lot of digging through google, I've tried everything I could find, from configuring CUPS and HPIJS and the like. Right now I have it plugged into ethernet and it has an IP but entering it into the URL bar of firefox gets nothing. It isn't detected by the printing app in ubuntu, either.
For some reason I don't understand SUSE tells me there are no network devices available. I've checked for any 'firmware' and 'kill' in both boot.msg and hardware information. I've got an ACER Aspire 8935G with WiFi Link 5100 (Intel). The only info I found that could point to the reason is:
[Code]...
There is one more thing that could be related: I've got some touch-buttons to the left of the keyboard that turn wifi and bluetooth on/of. The bluetooth one works, but nothing happens if I press the wifi one.
I also know that this hardware worked on fedora 11 and 12, so it's probably only a matter of settings/additional packages. If you respond, please keep in mind I can't use any internet connection-based commands, as the system doesn't accept the hardware responsible for cable connections either. I can download files if needed.
I have a D-Link Air DWL-520 wireless card on my desktop computer. It runs well with Windows, but doesn't seem to work with Ubuntu. I am using Lucid Beta 2. I have tried googling, but have not come across any clear solutions on how to make it work.
my card is not recognized in any way by ifconfig or iwconfig as shown below, but is visible via lsusb. It is 54Mb usb, and has a detachable antenna with the Atheros chipset shown below. I have removed (by #) the ath_pci from the blacklist under /etc/modprobe.d but cannot seem to start this still. I used compat-wireless-2010-06-01 (06-12 appeared to have errors I could not easily overcome). The lspci -nn command only shows my internal broadcom which I am not currently using. My goal is to do wireless research so I need the atheros (among others)...
my hw: Dell series n, TP-Link's TL-WN422G USB wireless stick
$ lsusb | grep Ath Bus 001 Device 004: ID 0cf3:1006 Atheros Communications, Inc. $ lsmod | grep ath ath9k 71145 0
[Code]....
Seems to me that their should only be one ath9k driver, but several are loaded. Are all required for functionality perhaps?
Ubuntu 10.4 with wireless card TP-Link TL-WN321G the driver installed and it connect to the wireless network but no internet access. I checked everything about the wireless information and everything is fine nothing wrong and the ip address is fine, am new to ubuntu and I don't know how to uninstall or reinstall the driver so I bought another wireless adapter Xtech this one the ubuntu didn't recognize it and I have the cd it came with but the driver is like make file and configure and .a or .c I really want to use ubuntu but without an internet connection no use of it!
i have tried to get the above wireless card working - mostly with the easy madwifi script in these forums - all to no avail. i have seen a couple of posts where people have said they have got this card working, so i must have done something to screw things up. here is some output:
I've just received a new router from TalkTalk - a D-Link DSL-2680 - and was very pleased to find that after I plugged it in I could wirelessly connect straight away with my laptop. However since I first disconnected I have been unable to connect again since and have had to resort to a wired connection. I have been using Ubuntu for several years now and am very pleased with it, especially given my relatively low knowledge of computers.
My system is as follows:
IBM T42 laptop
Ubuntu 10.10 - I was running V9, but upgraded as some discussions suggested this might be an issue The wireless adapter is built in to the laptop, and I'm not even sure how to find out what it is It may be a problem with the DHCP server on the router rather than a problem with the laptop.
I have CentOS5.4 which runs fine with wired internet but when tried to configure a wireless adpter I am not successful. My Network manager is running fine but I can not see nm-applet.
When I run "for BUSID in $(/sbin/lspci | awk '{ IGNORECASE=1 } /net/ { print $1 }'); do /sbin/lspci -s $BUSID -m; /sbin/lspci -s $BUSID -n; done" I get the following:
I have a RT8187B wireless card in my notebook. When I turn ON my wifi and connect in a TP-Link router, after -+ 30 min, the notebook power off. It's not like shutdown. It's like the power (battery and power adapter) was removed: everything stops working immediately and erases (like a blackout when we don't have a battery). When I'm using my ethernet all things works pretty good.
I am trying desperately to get my wireless n adapter to work. I had it running sporadically with ndiswrapper for some months now (it was always unreliable). Now I was very optimistic, when I found new driver sources from Realtek directly: Realtek I understand the DWA-131 is based on the Realtek 8192su chipset. Unfortunately the build fails:
