View 9 RepliesI've been an ubuntu user for several years and just installed kubuntu 11.4 this morning. Nice desktop and feel. Easily navigable. I like. But i can't download any packages!
When i try "check for new updates" in KPackageKit i get:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
Over the years i've used [url] to update my system but i get no joy this time.
I'm using kubuntu 11.4 on a fujitsu-siemens amillo pi2530. I've enable the natty universe and multiverse repositries.
I have FC10! so far i have downloaded the mplayer and its codecs.further i extracted both the packages( in DOWNLOAD folder).but I'm not able to extract the codecs in the /usr/local/lib/codecs directory.it says you do not have permission. how should i know whether to compile the mplayer or is it pre-compiled?
View 10 Replies View RelatedEach time I connect to a Mumble server, this appears:Quote: Unable to find matching CELT codecs with other clients. You will not be able to talk to all users. Apparently that is the cause for not being able to hold a conversation on mumble. Nobody can hear me, though I can't specify if I can hear others at the moment. Some googling has led me to this:
Gentoo Bug #293300
media-sound/mumble-1.2.0_beta1 tries to load media-libs/celt-0.7.0 as
"libcelt.so.0.7.0", but the actually installed library is named
"libcelt.so.0.0.0". Thus CELT support in Mumble is supposedly missing, but can
be restored by symlinking libcelt.so.0.7.0 to libcelt.so.0.0.0.

Iv tried everything to install the codecs for my system, the one click install, the manual provided for by openSUSE but no luck. All the files were installed correctly but alas no file will play. I need a solid answer. I have 11.2 GNOME on a 32 bit processor
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have an mkv file that I'm trying to player with mplayer, but no video is showing up. Mplayer was installed using apt-get install mplayer since ./configure when I try to build mplayer gives me a bunch of garbage:
Current branch master is up to date.
Detected operating system: Linux
Detected host architecture: i386
[code]....
But, after installing mplayer using apt-get, I can't get any video for the file I'm trying to play. I've tried copying the files from "all-20110131.tar.bz2" to /usr/local/lib/codecs but I still don't even get a box for video. Everything works fine using the built in movie player--even the subtitles are shown correctly.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI was playing around on my ibook g4 and thought I would try out Midori. I was pleasantly surprised to see it would allow an html5 applet to open on ...... Sadly, the video never begins playing, so I believe I must need to install the non-free codecs package...if it does indeed contain h.264.
I've used Ubuntu off and on over the years, so my knowledge of how to do a lot things is quite limited. I've been searching online for hours and can not find the information I need to install the non-free codecs...or just h.264 in general. I saw one post about adding medibuntu repositories, but the address relating to nonfree codecs for the ppc gives a 404 when it is going through the apt-get update in the terminal.
Found this [URL] supposed to be from the mplayer project. This seems to contain more codecs than in the codec32 package in medibuntu. I am wondering if this is safe to install.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've spoken to people on the KDE forum about this but am a bit stumped. They advised me to change the phonon backend of Amarok from xine to phonon-backend-gstreamer or phonon-backend-vlc. The latter doesn't seem to be in the repositaries though someone on the KDE forum said otherwise. When I change to gstreamer, Amarok says it cannot play mp3 files. Apparently Kubuntu 10.04's Amarok is a bit old too but I can't see how to update it - does this involve adding a ppa or something?
I've added two other database-type players, Exaile and Rhythmbox, both designed of course for other desktop environments, but they both give gripes about codecs too or won't play. The xine backend causes jumps in playback mentioned in another post.
I have installed the Kubuntu restricted extras, and I even added w32codecs and nonfreecodecs at one point, now removed (--purged). I don't fancy moving to 10.10 as I like the 3 years of not messing about upgrading/reinstalling. I would ideally update just Amarok and KDE itself.
I couldn't connect my Micromax 300G modem in Debian Linux. From internet (in Windows Vista), I came across the information of USB_ModeSwitch and then I downloaded it. While going to install it, I came across the problem that TCL-interpreter is not available in Debian Linux. Then again I restarted my laptop in Windows Vista and connected my Micromax modem and from internet downloaded TCL8.5.10-src.tar.gz. But while going to install it, I came across the problem that " configure: error: no acceptable C compiler found in $PATH " . Also as presently, I am unable to connect my modem therefore I am unable to issue the code:" apt-get update ".

View 3 Replies View RelatedI was using THIS guide to install restricted multimedia codecs. I got to the part where I had to switch system packages to the Packman packages. It came up with a number of dependency errors. I then had a stupid moment and told it to ignore the dependencies and break the applications. Now Xine won't even start, and Amarok seems to have disappeared on my computer. Oh and I also got a bunch of weird dependency problems when I was trying to install some of the packages from Packman too as listed on the guide. I also told it to ignore them when it couldn't find the dependencies. I'm scared I fudged multimedia up so badly I would have to do a clean install to get it back. BTW, I'm running openSUSE 11.2. I don't know if there are other specifications that matter.
