I am trying to install faac codecs on ubuntu 9.10 karmic.after running the configure and make commands i get this errors:

When I try and install any codecs to play the AVI videos, or a Music file I always get errors:

And the music gets the same error, does anyone know how to solve this?
I've found myself using the -v flag for lots of applications less and less (especially for trivial stuff like tar and cp). However, when I did and I was, say, unzipping a large file, it would take longer than when I didn't use the -v flag.I assume this is because the terminal has to process the text and I'm filling up whatever buffer it might have. But my question is, does this make the application actually run slower or does it complete in the same amount of time and what I'm seeing is the terminal trying to catch up?

I type ./configure and recieve an error about kde-config not being installed, but "ln kde4-config kde-config" (or something like that) solved that problem. I already have a version of Qt installed (it's necessary for KDE, is it not?), but it's not between 3.3 and 4.0. I've read online about how if you install both the 3.3 and the version included on Slackware 13.1 of Qt there would be problems. I also read that you could find the necessary Qt files in the sources discs, but I'm not sure what files to install:

I've been trying to install Gimmie. So I've gone through a few tutorials and something always seems to go wrong. Right now I run the "make install" command it give me a bunch of error messages. If there is any other bits of information you need to know just ask.

My question is this: I am running openSUSE 11.2 on my lappy. When I try to follow steps online to install all the necessary codecs, plugins and applications. I always seem to run into dependency problems. Can ANYONE out there give a step by step walk through of installing and running all the necessary files, codecs, apps. from a fresh install that has worked for them to get media to work in suse 11.2? It plays m4a tracks created using faac encoder.

I've compared the MediaInfo for the two files.
They look very similar, faac does a more thorough job of tagging. Does ffmpeg do something to the file when it's converting or muxing with libfaac to make it unplayable by the Shuffle?

I am trying to make a simple script. The first part works to untar a file. When I try to CD from within my simple script.sh file to the new directory just untared and run the setup commands it just errors out and says something about having no directory or something and saying that it cant make without configuring or something.

difference between make and make bzImage commands as both are used to build source code.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI started another thread about this to get help booting into openSUSE after Fedora rewrote my bootloader and deleted all other entries. I managed to fix it but I never did find out why the following commands caused my system to boot to the grub shell instead of the grub menu.

Can anyone explain to me why these commands caused my system to boot directly to a grub shell? It's as if there were no /boot/grub/menu.lst files for it to use, but after I got everything back to normal, the files were still there.
If it helps, this is how the drive was setup before and now, except Fedora was on /dev/sda4 and has since been deleted.

I've got an F10 install on an old IBM machine. I am trying to repartition the hard-drive, but all my fdisk commands in terminal give me errors. I made a DOS boot floppy on another machine so I could do it that way, but when I try to go from A: to C: the computer says I have no hard drive installed.

is it because of i have slackware 32bits i installed src2pkg successfully on slackware 13 but on slackware-current if i remove it and do src2pkg --setup i get error something like cannot live without it every time. when wanting to create src2pkg-helpers.

I want to make a file called file roller for Ubuntu 9.10. The folder has a file called install.sh and some others that are make.
I figure first I need to make a file and then run install.sh to install. But I don't know how to do this.

I'm a bit of a Nooob to Virtual hosting. On my internal network 192.168.1.x I have a dns server running bind9 My DNS / web server is 192.168.1.3 I have succeeded in getting [URL] to resolve and it goes to my web page in /var/www/ Now I want to get say [URL] to go to /var/www/music/
1. What's the best way to go about this?

However, like many people, I could not get nvidia-settings to write to my config file despite having run it with kdesudo. Instead, I opened the file with Kate (using KDESudo) and then used the preview from nvidia-settings and just copy pasted it into the file and saved it like that. if I use TwinView I have both monitors working, but when I try to use krandrtray to rotate one of them, it is shown as one large monitor so I cannot rotate just the one I want rotated.However, if I set them up as separate X windows the second one is black and krandrtray only shows the main monitor. I am at a loss of what to try next.

It has been awhile now since I sent him the details of the new server and the last time I talked to him he was joking around with one of the other clients not realizing how long it took.
I know on other server moves, my old guy could have everything setup and running in a couple days as a good amount of time is waiting for the data to copy over. I am starting to wonder if this guy is going to try and throw a huge bill at me, so I would like to know what hes doing on the server with time stamps just so I can get a idea of how much time he has been logged into the server. Does this server OS have anything like this built in?

View 2 Replies View RelatedHave been using Karmic kaola for a few months on my toshiba tecra laptop..as of yesterday unable to boot up..all I get is a black screen on start up with no further activity..no bios menu etc..the led lights up for the power source and occasionally lights up on the hard drive which seems to make some noise as if trying to function...did connect it up to an external monitor which displayed the start up toshiba logo but then came up with the message error: "invalid enviroment block" unable to load default boot entries.am wondering if 1. there is a fault with the grub set up?2. Something more serious as my laptop screen refuses to function?3. Will I be able to retrieve my hard drive data using ubuntu live cd connected to an external monitor?
