General :: Opening Emails In Hotmail Account, Running Back Track 4

First thing I will say is I am new this site and computers in general. I have pc and am running back track 4. Today the computer shut off, maybe an over heat. I restarted it and it turned off again even before the reboot finished. I put an additional cooling fan in front of the air intake and the computer is staying on but now will not open the emails in the my hot mail account. It seems to open the account, I can see what is in my in box just can not open them. Moving the curser over the unopened email usually made what is in task bar at the bottom of the page change. As of now it continues to say "Done" in stead of showing a task. Moving the curser over other things on the same page will make the task bar say "javascript" only.

I am running an Ubuntu(10.04) box and I am attempting to understand an error in a program.I don't have access to the source of this program, but I know it isn't working properly because it cannot find a particular file. I was wondering if it would be possible to monitor what file are accessed(more specifically denied access) by a process. My first idea was to breakpoint on fopen, but I didn't have any success.

i'm using CentOS 5 (final), & i have a domain used to send commercial emails to a lot of emails in hotmail & other companies,,his daily messages about 200,000 message i told him to not sent above 500 hundred message each time, to not get junked or blocked from hotmail, as there policy doesnt allow more that 500 simultanous connections each time, & wait about 15 minutes between each time,, trying to not get junked ,,
but also the mail server IP get junked, so i changed the mail server IP my question now is there any guides or steps to follow when sending emails to hotmail ?? my customer is working in a commercial field, so this means that his job depends on sending emails ,,

I know there are Linux email clients but I like Hotmail. I upgraded to Karmic and I'm very happy with it. The only issue I have found is I can't get the unread email to have bold text. I've tried downloading a number of fonts but no deal. Anyone know the font package I need to make this work?

I'm running Evolution 2.30.3 on fc13.x64 and I've been getting a funny problem for a while, that now really annoys me:
even if the settings for my hotmail account are correct, Evolution will ask for the password every time I log in. Also, since I keep it open, after a while (~30 minutes) it "forgets" somehow the password and asks for the password again. This time, anyway, it won't work and I have to reset Evolution again.
Bonus question: even if hotmail is configured correctly for receiving and sending (smtp.live.com etc.), it won't send email, but will remain stuck on "sending".

I got offered a position with an IT firm that requires me to do system penetration testing I heard Back Track was the way to go. I was reading and came across some forums stating that BT4 has issues with wireless network adapters in laptops.The network adapter is a:
Intel Centrino Advanced-N + WiMax 6250 (WiMax + 802.11a/g/n)
I'm not worried about the Wi-Max, just picking up Wi-Fi.

Yesterday I tried to use KMail with my hotmail account. First mistake I made was not to check "Leave fetched messages on the server". The obvious result of that was that I had empty hotmail (web) account. I've found this but its for Thunderbird to upload your messages back on to the server. If I can put all my messages back into hotmail server that would be great. Since I do use web account as well. KMail is only on my home PC.

im really impressed with the OS so far, exactly what i've been looking for. the install was a little rough, it hung up on "getting the time from the server" for almost 15 minutes even though i was connected to the internet. then for the first few bootups, the ubuntu boot screen was a box that only took up 1/4 of the screen. but that went away. anyway - im in now and its all looking good, but theres a few things i would like to be able to know how to do.
#1 - how do i set up evolution to access my hotmail account?
#2 - just noticed this while uploading an avatar to this site, the box that pops up that lets you browse your files - theres no view change? i have to click each individual picture to see what it is; can this be changed?
#3 - what is currently the best way to get an expose-like feature going in ubuntu?

I instaled vmware and created a virtual machine which is bt4. first of all i cant creat an user password and i log on with root second when i run the command airmon-ng i cant get my device name or anything caz nothing comes up under interface or i forgot what its caled.

After reading everything that says you don't need an anti-virus for Linux. OR Linux doesn't get viruses. Guess what I have a Virus. I don't know which one, but it is sending out spam emails from my webmail, MSN, account. I do not have a local client installed. I am guessing it is linking into MSN through Pidgin, getting the addresses there, and sending the spam, somehow, through MSN. Actually one MSN and one Hotmail account. I also have not been able to find an anti-virus program for Ubuntu. There do not seem to be any listed in the software repositories that Ubuntu links into. How do I get rid of it? My contacts are starting to get upset.

One of the apps I would like to try out is usenext.Selectint the download for the right version (Linux - Suse, Red Hat, Fedora) I get the rpm file.Either opening this straight away or saving then opening it comes back with the following errors:

Have anyone used an email client that stays in sync with a free Hotmail account? I have setup Claws Mail but when I delete an email within the client it remains on the server. I remember this being the same for other email clients. Is there any client that will stay in sync? If I delete an email from within the client it will also be deleted from Hotmail's web bases interface.

I apologize if something like this is answered in another thread, but im so new im not even quite sure what to look for in the form of an answer.Background on the problem is I am teaching myself how to correct problems users might cause. In this case moving their .evolution folder. The end result is I want to get emails, contacts, and signatures back. Ive got the contacts and sigs back but email still eludes me. How can I get old emails back in the evolution inbox?

got an annoying issue with Evolution mail client. When I open an email (ie in a new window), if I deleted that email, the previous email opens up in that window. What I would like is when I delete an email that window closes just leaving evolution open. Seems like this is some silly little option that I am missing

I am looking to send emails from cron for backup information. However, all the programs I have found (mail, mutt) require the password in plain text. Does anyone know of a more secure method? In fact, if it is only sending, is there a way to do this without logging into an account? What is the simplest way, without making it check emails too?

I'm having trouble using my hotmail account on Evolution. It used to work just fine but I when I opened Evolution today the following error ocurred: Could not login on server POP3 pop3.live.com. Error when sending username: -ERR command not expected now It then asks me to put my hotmail password... which I do and the same error appears again. Can someone tell me what's going on?

Using K3b 1.91.0 on Lucid in order to burn multitrack Video CDs.These burned fine before, and I made 5 working ones. Now having weird playback problem of burned VCDs first track looping back to the beginning instead of automatically advancing to later tracks. Same problem occurs on a variety of players including standalone DVD player. I can manually access the later tracks, but the later tracks don't continue automatically from track one.
The funny thing is that I'm using exactly the same mpeg VCD files that worked successfully before. I've got a feeling that the problem is some setting in K3b that I might have unintentionally changed, or else some nuance to how I'm adding the files to the project. I notice that when I add tracks to the project, a funny line always appears under a file name. Could that have anything to do with this problem? Also, would choosing "DAO" rather than "Auto" fix the problem? I'm tired of wasting the nice archival CD-Rs I bought!

I am setting up a laptop for an old person who has trouble locating the skype icon in the notification bar.
I want clicking on the skype desktop icon to open the window of already running instance instead of a new one (like it happens in Window$).I am using Lucid puppy 520.
I want the icon to link to script which checks if skype is already running, and if it is, it de-iconifies the skype window

In the x.org home page, there is a link 'the xorg mailing list'. If I click on this link, then the KMail Account Wizard (window subtitle New account setup) opens and I am compelled to create a new account. But I already have one, and I send and receive mail with this account. Can it be that this behavior is induced by x.org? I don't feel like opening a second account.

Sometimes I connect to my Debian box from another computer (using SSH on Cygwin or Linux), and once ina while I want to run some console apps. And sometimes some of these apps might complain about "another intance, Error: an instance of newsbeuter is already running (PID: 2496)". Is there a work around for this issue at all(without killing the original instance") ? The reason I do not want to kill the app because there might be 2 users connected to the same machine that might be using the same app.

there are any apps in Linux that allow messages to bounce back to the sender with a fake message saying the user does not exist or the email could not be delivered.
I have a stalker that keeps sending me disgusting emails on my primary gmail address, which I also use for work. He got my contact from a friend of mine (she was unaware he is mental i guess). Needless to say I replied a few times demanding he'd stop his cr@p, first in a polite way then even with insults and threatening to go to the police (but he is in another country so that's not a strategy I can use. Additionally in the country he lives - which is my native country - by law there is no restrain order unless there is first a personal attack and plus even in that case you have to get lawyers and pay lots of money for a court order).
Anyway, of course I already set up a filter in my gmail address that sends his cr@p right to the trash, and blocked him from any contact I have on the internet (Skype and Facebook). But I would like to pretend that my address does not exist any more or is not accepting emails any more by bouncing back a failure message so that this idi0t can stop once and for all. This disgusting email flood has been going on for almost a year.
I googled and found 3 windows apps that do that ( Bounce Email Spam Messages Back to Spammers with Non-Delivery Notifications | Raymond.CC Blog ) but I have not been able to find anything for Linux.
Does anyone know of any way to have a failure email bouncing back?

When I open Synaptic Package Manager, it asks for admin password. But, after I give the password, the window vanishes. Thus, I am not able to open Synaptic Package Manager in non-admin account.

I upgraded from Karmic to Lucid (Ubuntu 10.04) a few days ago (without backing up any data first). At first everything seemed fine but yesterday three things happened:
1. All my emails and address book have disappeared in Thunderbird. When I started Thunderbird, it took me through the wizard and seems to have overwritten my profile with a new one. There is only one profile in the Thunderbird folder and it seems to contain no emails and only a new, blank address book (the small size of the folder backs this up. I searched the hard drive but found no other emails or address book files.
2. My bookmarks have disappeared from Google Chrome. Again, it seems to have created a new, blank bookmark file. The bookmark.bak file is similarly blank and when I search I can find no other bookmark files.
3. The Pictures folder (in the home folder) is now empty; suggesting that ubuntu has either overwritten the Pictures folder with a new blank folder or deleted all the files in it. Again, when I search the hard drive for jpg files, it doesn't find any of the pictures that were in the Pictures folder.

I created a new user "www". I can login with this user. I can send emails (using sendmail) from this user to other users. But this user cannot receive any email. All emails sent to "www" will go to "root" mailbox. Is "www" a special account under sendmail that all emails will be re-directed to "root"?
