View 1 Replies View RelatedWe have something on our network that is reaking havoc with our content filter. I am trying to track it down, but so far I have been unsuccessful. We have approximately 500 devices in 100+ different locations spread across 9 states. Looking at each computer is not really feasible.
I need a machine that can sit in between our network and our internet connection and graphically monitor in real time and logs how much traffic each device is sending and receiving. It would need to sit inline so it has to have two nics and be able to pass traffic. The machine also needs to be transparent. Reconfiguration of our routers or workstations is not an option.
I have used ethereal and wireshark before. Ethereal may be a viable option, but wireshark seems to provide lots of information, but no practical way to make use of it. how to set up the box to be a transparent device on the network that will allow internet bound traffic to flow (freely)?

View 7 Replies View RelatedFirst thing I will say is I am new this site and computers in general. I have pc and am running back track 4. Today the computer shut off, maybe an over heat. I restarted it and it turned off again even before the reboot finished. I put an additional cooling fan in front of the air intake and the computer is staying on but now will not open the emails in the my hot mail account. It seems to open the account, I can see what is in my in box just can not open them. Moving the curser over the unopened email usually made what is in task bar at the bottom of the page change. As of now it continues to say "Done" in stead of showing a task. Moving the curser over other things on the same page will make the task bar say "javascript" only.

I have Motorola Netopia DSL (NO router) and can't connect to the internet in ANY linux distro (openSUSE, fedora, slax, mandriva, simplymepis, mint, dreamlinux, ubuntu, ubuntu studio, artist linux). The only linux distro that works right away is backtrack linux 3. All other distro do not work including new back track linux 4 because in version 4 they switched to debian. My ISP is Bellsouth and they do not want to cooperate. I was told they do not support linux.
DSL shows internet and activity lights green but it does not connect.It seems to me problem is in eth0 because when I go to terminal and ifup eth0 it gives me can't assign requested address. I have dynamic DHCP and can't assign static address.I have 2 questions:

I run all linux distros from live CD/DVD from external DVD drive except fedora which is on C: drive.I did try to run already network devices, dsl configuration without any results If I can go to my modem thru browser address 192.168.1.254 I would be able to solve the problem but I always get message can't connect to server.

I have crunchbang lite 9.04.01 installed on an old laptop and I am very pleased with it. apart from one thing, I am unable to connect to internet as it is unable to detect my NIC.

I have Cisco Switch 2960, and it has been configured with dhcp (from 192.168.43.31 to 192.168.43.) and all my client connected to It. I have a modem and Its IP is 192.168.1.1, I used Fedora Linux system in between Modem and Switch , and made IP forwarding (Only one ethernet port is avaliable in Fedora Linux System), so that I can use the Internet through out the LAN. But When I try to ping modem form client system, I get an message

I am unable to connect to the Internet using a wired connection. I was able to use the wired network yesterday. But I had problems with the flash player, so had to reinstall Ubuntu again. I am able to connect to Internet using wireless connection. But I need to connect to the wired connection. I am using Ubuntu 10. In my IPv4 settings, it is automatically set to DHCP, using which, I was earlier able to connect. But now it doesn't seem to be happening.
But there are other entries on the syslog that were recent.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am trying to setup a dhcp server for my internal network. I have two NICs, a modem, and a wireless router. I have my server connected directly to my modem which is providing me with Internet access on eth1 and is working fine. I have dhcp and dns setup on eth0 which is connected to my router. The router shows that it is connected to the Internet but when the router gives a client computer an IP address, the client is unable to connect to the Internet but can connect to the router. I will post my configuration files below with my current configuration.

Currently my setup is a road runner cable modem connected to a desktop via a ethernet cable. The networkmanager lists "Broadcom BCM440-BO 100BaseTX" device not managed. I've turned off the power to both the cable modem and the computer. I then turned on the power to the cable modem and then the computer. If I try the firefox browser, it can not connect to the internet.

View 8 Replies View RelatedUsing K3b 1.91.0 on Lucid in order to burn multitrack Video CDs.These burned fine before, and I made 5 working ones. Now having weird playback problem of burned VCDs first track looping back to the beginning instead of automatically advancing to later tracks. Same problem occurs on a variety of players including standalone DVD player. I can manually access the later tracks, but the later tracks don't continue automatically from track one.
The funny thing is that I'm using exactly the same mpeg VCD files that worked successfully before. I've got a feeling that the problem is some setting in K3b that I might have unintentionally changed, or else some nuance to how I'm adding the files to the project. I notice that when I add tracks to the project, a funny line always appears under a file name. Could that have anything to do with this problem? Also, would choosing "DAO" rather than "Auto" fix the problem? I'm tired of wasting the nice archival CD-Rs I bought!
I have been able to connect through a wired connection for a while, I have checked through many previous threads but I cannot seem to get the wireless to even pick up a signal, which this computer right next to it can pick up.

Things that I have already tried based on threads posted for similar problems:

Network is unreachable
I connect to the Internet via wired ethernet. The modem/gateway is 2Wire mod. 2701HG-B. Service provider is AT&T DSL. Ethernet controller is Realtek Semiconductor RTL8111/81688 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet. When I go to System -> Administration -> Network Device Control it shows eth0 as inactive.
Network Configuration shows:
* Hostname: localhost.localdomain
* Primary/Secondary/Tertiary DNS: blank
* DNS Search Path: blank
I have no problem whatsoever connecting to the Internet when using Windows XP.
