View 3 RepliesOur A+ project was to set up a dual-boot using XP Pro & the Linux download of our choice. What we did:
1- We formatted a 38GB HD using the NTFS file system.
2- Two equal sized NTFS partitions were created.
- Partition 1 was a Primary.
- Partition 2 was an Extended.
3- Used Ubuntu CD.
4- Install Ubuntu choices were to format the HD, install side-by-side, use the the longest continuous space, etc. We chose side-by-side.
5- After the install there was no evidence of the 2d 18GB partition (which we planned to use for XP Pro).
When we booted to the XP install disc that program booted to another HD (C.

But what about to auto logout after killing the X session? I hit exit from fluxbox, but I could add a menu item I suppose to just kill the xsession. Wondering if there is a graceful way to do it with bash_profile.
Also, on a related note, if I switch to dash with the bash_profile method still work?
I just used dd to clone a linux partition to a new hard drive, it had 800mb left on the old hard drive, after dd, new hard drive lists 1.29/1.3 terabytes full. Is this what happens by default in dd? How can I fix this?

I have browsed the init scripts and have yet to determine how this "magic" is performed. cupsd: Unable to read configuration file '/etc/cups/cupsd.conf' - exiting!
cupsd: Child exited with status 1!
The log files show nothing. cupsd.conf exists. It is user - root and group - root with permissions set at 0644.
My interpretation of this is that the program is not launching from either boot or terminal for a fundamental reason. I do not quite see what that reason is .

Creating a separate /tmp partition manually during install prevents a clean shutdown.
Setup: Debian 8 minimal server configuration (SSH only) using net install as virtual machine on Windows Server 2012 R2 Hyper-V (Gen 2).
1024 MB RAM, 20 GB VHDX, and 1 Processor, EFI boot
Packages installed: openssh-server, sudo, unattended-upgrades, bsd-mailx postfix
Application: IPv6 gateway using 6in4 tunnel
Symptoms: When shutting down the operating system (poweroff or reboot), the message
A start job is running for Unattended-Upgrades ( xx seconds / no limit ).is displayed on the console and will persist for several minutes before eventually timing out and shutting down.I've tried several different configurations. Any configuration that creates /tmp automatically (whole disk with single partition, or disk with separate /home, /var, and /tmp partitions) works fine and shuts down promptly. When I partition the disk manually (512 MB EFI Boot, 17 GB /, 3 GB /var, 512 MB /tmp, and 512+ swap) the problem occurs. I've narrowed it down to just the /tmp partition by testing and comparing various configurations (including/excluding partitions, placing partitions on a separate disk, changing the partition sizes, matching against automatic configurations, etc.).
I have also compared the /etc/fstab and /etc/default/tmpfs configuration file between working and non-working systems and cannot see any meaningful difference.

At the end, it asked me if what to do with the new and old configuration files. I chose to use the old file and keep the new ones. But when I reboot the system, it fails to restart saying "cannot find which tty". Looks like the old configuration files doesn't go well with the new upgrade. How can I use the new configuration file without wiping out my old configurations? What are the steps to retrieve the system back online?
I want to launch a gnome-terminal with a korn shell, and I want to specify in advance a command to execute, and then hand control back over to ksh. ex.

I expect that to run ksh, do an 'ls' for example, and then give a prompt. I thought the -i switch (for interactive) meant that the shell would resume control, but this doesn't happen. The window just closes quicker than I can see what was output.
How will configure ntpd server? I tried to do it but I am used to get synchronize failed error.

I also installed Fedora 14 on my USB External Hard Drive which it has it own boot sector. I don't want to have a dual boot. So if I plug in my external HD to my laptop and turns the machine on, it automatically my Fedora comes up, other wise my windows 7. However, there are times that I am scrolling down through a large document quickly and less exits when I reach the end of the document before I have time to stop scrolling. First I insert fedora dvd and install as per procedure then finally system says like that your installation is completed please reboot ur system. I am planning to do multiple installations at the same time.hence i need multiple boot.iso files for each and every DRAC console that I open for each server.The question is...How to extract just the bootable part from the fedora DVD? I don't whether it should be called boot.iso, but I hope you get my point.I believe it has got something to do with the "isolinux" folder on the DVD, but I don't know what and how.

I was trying to install java on 10.04 in firefox. Now whenever I try to get new software, there is none to be found.
