View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm brand new to Ubuntu (or any flavor of Unix/Linux, for that matter). I installed it (9.10) into a VM in Hyper-V with aplomb. However, the mouse isn't working, so I'm getting good at using the keyboard shortcuts right off the bat.Anyhoo, I'd like to get the mouse working. I downloaded Hyper-V for Linux 1.0 (integration components), but I can't seem to get it installed. I attach to the ISO from my VM and the CD shows up in Ubuntu, but then what? I tried running the setup.pl file, but nothing seemed to happen and my mouse still isn't working.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI had an ill-advised upgrade from Ubuntu 9.10 to 10.04 (due to needing to beta-test a particular program). My gut told me that I shouldn't do it, but I went ahead and did it anyway. The problem that makes this worse is that I have an ATI Radeon HD 3650, and ATI hates Linux. So upon booting into 10.04 I ended up with no screen. It took a lot of futzing around in the terminal to get things going (including making an xorg.conf file). Installing the ATI proprietary drivers (Catalyst) was an epic failure. Trying to make "radeon" the driver? Epic failure, resulted in a completely unbootable system.
To at least get the system to boot, I deleted xorg.conf (since 10.04 allegedly will discover devices automatically without it) and played around with options in GRUB. Please see my attached menu.lst; that should be my only configuration. The other issue at this point is that my only working driver (that I can find anyway) is vesa. Unfortunately, when using Vesa, my mouse wants to scroll everything down and to the right. This means that if I open any window that has a scrollbar, it will move such so that the scrollbars are to the other end. This makes it all but impossible to make things work.
To make matters worse, now my WINE (specifically, Irfanview) cannot view GIFs. But at least I have a workaround (FTP) to get things to where I can work on them.) At this point I'd be satisfied if I could just get the mouse to stop messing up. I accidentally made it work at one point but I can't retrace the switches I set to make it so. I've tried setting a basic xorg.conf, an ATI-generated xorg.conf, and now no xorg.conf.
Before I upgraded, I used Ubuntu 9.04 on my Playstation 3. It worked absolutely fine. A couple of days back, I decided to upgrade to ubuntu 9.10 using the update manager. The installation process seemed to go fine, until I booted up the new version. When I booted up, my mouse cursor wouldn't move, whilst my keyboard worked fine, I unplugged and plugged it back in and swapped USB ports, but it came to no use. I reinstalled Jaunty and tried the entire installation process again. After installing the new version again, the same problem occured, my mouse just wouldn't work.
When I type in the command 'uname -a' it comes up with something (I apologize, I am a Linux noob) to do with the 2.6.24 Linux kernel, Ubuntu 9.10 is on the 2.6.31 kernel. Is this the problem? I don't understand what is going on or what the solution is. My mouse is a HP optical mouse if that helps. I can't bring up the terminal window because my mouse just doesn't work, which is really annoying me.
System was running fine under 8.04 but decided to update. The live CD works fine but after install, the Mouse and Keyboard stop working under 9.10. Even the keyboard power button is off. Disconnecting and reconnecting the keyboard or the mouse does not . AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ PS/2 Keyboard and PS/2 mouse
Everything else seems OK but how would I know without the keyboard or mouse. The keyboard turns off right before the first Ubuntu screen. The Numlock will go off and then nothing. Tried to run dpkg - fix broken packages after booting to repair. All I get is fail to fetch http: (whatever )Could not resolve us.archive.ubuntu.com. Update: Alt-F3 ... then Booting to terminal mode does not disable the keyboard.
I upgraded to 10.10 from 10.04 few weeks ago. Everything was working fine until today when I did a partial upgrade and it removed some of the lib files. Now my usb mouse and keyboard is not working. I can move the mouse around but can't click ( left or right ). I have nvidia graphics card. I tried running it under safe graphics mode and when I do that everything works fine except for the compiz obviously. I have tried reinstalling nvidia driver to see if that would make a difference but that didn't work either. I am not sure which lib files did ubuntu removed. I have searched everywhere to find a solution on the web and the only thing I think it might b iz my xconf file iz messed up. I really don't want to reinstall the whole OS and loose all my apps.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have Fedora 11 installed on my HP Pavilion dv6000 laptop, and have been using the installation for many months. Just this past couple of days, the 'right-click' on the mouse (whether using the trackpad mouse on the latop or an external mouse) has stopped working, but not completely. I can still right-click in firefox, on the bar at the top of screen, in a terminal window, etc. However, right-click is not working on the desktop, that is I can not right-click on a folder or a file. Nothing happens. If I right-click on the trash-can, nothing. So I know the mouse buttons are fine as right-click does work in firefox.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1501 recently converted to run Fedora 13. Everything seems fine except the touchpad mouse doesn't work outside the X-Window. When I boot to full multi-user mode, the mouse doesn't work at all. I think this is responsible for the typical UNIX copy & paste by selecting and right clicking not to work within GUI. View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an asus 1215b laptop. For some reason, when I plug my mouse into any of the USB 2.0 ports it doesnt work. However, these same ports work perfectly to coppy files onto pendrives or external hdd. However, the USB 3.0 works perfectly for everything. The last thing I expected was the newer 3.0 to work and not the older 2.0. btw, my mouse is a generic, brandless laser mouse (it is an inhouse brand of PC CITY stores: PC LINE). I have never had any problems with it before.
View 1 Replies View RelatedRunning xubuntu 10.10, disabled xfce settings helper and check for new hardware under session and startup. After rebooting I'm greeted with the normal login screen but don't have mouse or keyboard support! I'm wondering if there is anyway other then reinstalling to fix this. I've got my hdd mounted from the livecd, is there a config file to reenable these, or a way to make them run on boot. Or is there a boot option or a means to start them another way?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have read no fixes anywhere, oddly. This problem happened in 9.10 and seems to be back in 10.04. The fix on Ubuntu-Geek, which was re-posted various places, does not work either. However, I do know this is not a hardware issue... or think. I have a dual-boot with Windows 7 and it is not affected by this. Also, if I install anything 9.04 or earlier, this does not happen. Oddly, my netbook had 9.10 and now 10.04 but not this issue. Sadly I feel I must try other distros as this appears to be a Ubuntu specific error.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI've been facing this problem since months before I decided to find an answer. I downloaded a cursor theme from gnome-look.org and then installed it by dragging the tarball to the themes window. It said theme is installed. But the effects are not visible yet. I then shoot up firefox to see the new pointer working but not outside firefox. I even noticed the new pointer theme works in nautilus for all except pointing (it works while resizing, selecting text, loading but not the regular pointing).
I searched the forums and found a similar problem: [URL]
the solution doesn't work because there is no "cursor theme" option in ccsm. i've attached a screenshot too.
Is it a bug? do i need to disable compiz to "have my own desktop"? Is there a solution?
So my computer was slow with Karmic Koala, so I tried upgrading my build to Lucid Lynx 10.04.
Now I can't login because neither my keyboard nor mouse (and touch-pad) work. However, I can access the command mode (terminal?) though through the grub boot menu.
how I can get my mouse (and touch-pad) and keyboard to work with Ubuntu 10.04? My machine is an Acer Aspire 4730Z. I dual boot with Windows 7, and I'd prefer not to have to clear out the partition for Linux and reinstall.
