Ubuntu Installation :: Mouse And Keyboard Not Working 10.10 Maverick

Nov 5, 2010

I upgraded to 10.10 from 10.04 few weeks ago. Everything was working fine until today when I did a partial upgrade and it removed some of the lib files. Now my usb mouse and keyboard is not working. I can move the mouse around but can't click ( left or right ). I have nvidia graphics card. I tried running it under safe graphics mode and when I do that everything works fine except for the compiz obviously. I have tried reinstalling nvidia driver to see if that would make a difference but that didn't work either. I am not sure which lib files did ubuntu removed. I have searched everywhere to find a solution on the web and the only thing I think it might b iz my xconf file iz messed up. I really don't want to reinstall the whole OS and loose all my apps.

Ubuntu Installation :: Maverick Mysteries - USB Keyboard / Mouse And Display

Nov 8, 2010

I have several machines which have been dual booting Ubuntu and Win for a couple years. Not much problem with setting them up, and Ubuntu has been trouble free. With this Maverick release, however, I've had quite a bit of trouble. Having trouble characterizing the flakiness, but it persists on this machine as follows ...

I did a clean install of the 10/10/10 distribution, dual booting with Win 7. Seemed to install OK and boot up once, although there might have been small problems during install, causing me to start over clean. Machine is relatively new AMD X4 940, with ATI HD 4800 video. The first flaky thing is that Sometimes (>50% of the time) the USB keyboard and/or mouse don't work (locked up). Sometimes one does, but not the other, sometimes neither work. I can't characterize why, but rebooting sometimes fixes it. The Win 7 environment is fine.

The second flaky thing is that after the initial boot to the graphical desktop, more often I boot to the black login screen. By reading this forum, I've found that "sudo service gdm start" usually starts the graphical desktop (although mostly with the mouse and or kbd frozen). This is a clean install, with the proprietary ATI driver added. I am dismayed, because this is so different from my earlier experience with Ubuntu. Don't know if these problems are somehow linked, or quite how to proceeds. Just looking for more stability.

Ubuntu Installation :: Mouse And Keyboard Stop Working With 9.10 AMD 64 Bit?

Jan 11, 2010

System was running fine under 8.04 but decided to update. The live CD works fine but after install, the Mouse and Keyboard stop working under 9.10. Even the keyboard power button is off. Disconnecting and reconnecting the keyboard or the mouse does not . AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ PS/2 Keyboard and PS/2 mouse

Everything else seems OK but how would I know without the keyboard or mouse. The keyboard turns off right before the first Ubuntu screen. The Numlock will go off and then nothing. Tried to run dpkg - fix broken packages after booting to repair. All I get is fail to fetch http: (whatever )Could not resolve us.archive.ubuntu.com. Update: Alt-F3 ... then Booting to terminal mode does not disable the keyboard.

Fedora Installation :: Keyboard And Mouse Not Working On F11

Jun 11, 2009

I'm having an issue installing Fedora 11. The install goes fine, but after restarting (when I get to the initial configuration screen) my keyboard and mouse don't work. I can boot into the Live CD without issue. My boot.log file is below:

boot.log:
Code:
Welcome to Fedora
Press 'I' to enter interactive startup.
Starting udev: [OK]
Setting hostname Ste-PC: [OK]
mdadm: failed to add /dev/sda1 to /dev/md/imsm0: No such device or address
mdadm: Container /dev/md/imsm0 has been assembled with 2 drives
mdadm: Started /dev/md126 with 2 devices .....

HAL is failing to start, could that be the issue? If so, how should I go about fixing it?

Ubuntu :: Keyboard And Mouse Not Working?

Oct 9, 2010

So my computer was slow with Karmic Koala, so I tried upgrading my build to Lucid Lynx 10.04.

Now I can't login because neither my keyboard nor mouse (and touch-pad) work. However, I can access the command mode (terminal?) though through the grub boot menu.

how I can get my mouse (and touch-pad) and keyboard to work with Ubuntu 10.04? My machine is an Acer Aspire 4730Z. I dual boot with Windows 7, and I'd prefer not to have to clear out the partition for Linux and reinstall.

Ubuntu :: 10.04 Mouse And Keyboard Stop Working?

Jun 7, 2010

I was having a problem with the mouse and keyboard randomly failing to work after upgrading to version 10.04. I tried both the 32 and 64 bit versions. The problem went away after I edited the file /etc/default/grub and changed the following line:

from
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"
to
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash noapic nolapic"

If you are unable to open a terminal window, try doing the following

Ctrl+Alt+F1
Log into you account.
sudo nano /etc/default/grub

After saving your changes and exiting nano you can reboot by using the halt command.(FYI Ctrl+Alt+F7 gets you back into X server -- but you need to reboot for the change to take effect) Update: problem recurred. I had to do Ctrl+Alt+F1 to log into a console. I executed 'ps aux | more' to find the PID for X.Using the PID I restart X with 'sudo kill -S SIGTERM <PID>'.Once it started up again it was fine.

I have tried using a USB mouse without sucess. My USB-powered cooling fan still works in all three USB ports fine. I have tried booting into the LiveCD and got the same results except for the CD auto-logging in. Eht0 still auto-connects to the network fine in the LiveCD. I can't find any wrong except for the keyboard and mouse not responding. My next step is to burn a LiveCD with start-up scripts to enable ssh. Also the touch-pad doesn't respond either

Ubuntu :: Bluetooth Keyboard / Mouse Not Working

Jul 18, 2011

I have a laptop. . .Dell 1150. Ubuntu installed, bluetooth device installed and my bluetooth keyboard and mouse works like a charm. I decided to load up my same exact Ibuntu on my desktop, use the same keyboard on it, and the mouse too. I tested it on the laptop, just in case it would not work in Ibuntu, and I didn't want to wipe out my Windows XP on my desktop and find out Ibuntu would not work on it with a wireless keyboard. Since it worked very well with my laptop, I figured it would work just as good with my desktop. I wiped my desktop out, and installed Ibuntu. Everything worked fantastic. Until I tried to install the bluetooth.

When I plug in my Bluetooth device, Ibuntu finds it and asks to set up your device. I attempt to set up my keyboard/mouse combo and it asks for a 6 digit code (like it is supposed to). I enter the code and press enter. From here, the problem starts. Ubuntu "claims" to connect to the keyboard, shows it connected, but my keyboard does not work at all. Neither does the mouse that is built into the keyboard. I type and nothing happens. This also brings up (sometimes) another message that says my keyboard is trying to connect to the bluetooth device please enter keyboard PIN. Well.

I can't enter anything, because the keyboard does not work! The mouse does not work! I can (without any problems) disconnect and connect to my laptop, but I can't do this to my desktop. Both are dell units. Desktop is about 3 years old, laptop is about 8 years old. Both running Ubuntu, the latest version. Both recognize the bluetooth transceiver. I have tried different USB ports on the desktop with no avail. I would really like to use my desktop as a unit to my TV with a wireless keyboard, not my laptop. It is much faster, more memory, and I can use the TV as a monitor.

Ubuntu :: Bluetooth Keyboard And Mouse Not Working After Inactivity?

May 28, 2011

I've paired a bluetooth keyboard and mouse with my machine using the Gnome bluetooth wizard and the keyboard and mouse work fine. Then, if I let the computer sit for a few hours and then try to use the keyboard or mouse, nothing happens. When paired with my windows machine, and I start using the keyboard and mouse after a hour or two, the keyboard takes a second or two to start working again. I suspect that it turns itself off, and then has to reconnect, and that in Linux, the reconnection isn't working properly. I've found other instances on the forums of people with the same symptoms, but never any clear answers. Does anyone know what's going on?

When I plug in USB mouse and keyboard directly into the blade they work fine. When I hook the use mouse and board to the cport kvm, I don't even get any power to the devices. If I plug in ps2 mouse and board through the kvm, I get power and can use them in the bios but once Centos starts to load, they go dead. I have changed the kvm 3 times with new kvms, and I spoke with the manufacturer there are no incompatibilities with the hp mouse or keyboard or any reason why the usb ports wouldn't be working on the kvm for the devices.

Hardware :: Belkin KVM Not Working With Usb Mouse And Keyboard Ports?

Jul 18, 2009

I'm trying to set up a new Dell machine with openSUSE 11.1 and KDE 4. For the rest of my PCs I use a Belkin kvm that connects the mouse and keyboard into PS/2 ports and it works. However, the new Dell doesn't have PS/2 ports and I can't get the machine to detect the mouse and keyboard (at all) unless I plug them in directly.

I'm using a Belkin four-port kvm, model number F1DJ104P. Does anyone know of a driver I could download to my Dell PC that would detect the devices via the kvm? The Belkin web site seems to be in pieces and is absolutely no use.

Alternatively, since I'm not particularly attached to the kvm, can anyone suggest a kvm switch that I could buy instead? It would have to have a minimum of four ports and be able to handle both Windows and Linux (all flavours with both OSs) machines, with both usb and PS/2 ports for mouse and keyboard. If it could handle audio, then that would be an improvement on what I've got already.

Hardware :: Mouse And Keyboard Not Working Debian Squeeze With Kde?

Feb 1, 2010

I have debian with kde on a laptop with a built in ps/2 keyboard and touch pad mouse which have been working without problem since i bought the computer. However, recently i booted the computer up and all of a sudden the mouse and keyboard are not functioning. I know it is not a hardware problem because i can type in the BIOS password, make the selection between normal and recovery mode in grub, and can type in all of my passwords to unencrypt my hard drive.

Also, it recognizes the keyboard all the way up until the point where kde starts, at which point it loads a login screen with the mouse and cursor on the screen, but no ability to type, not even caps lock or ctrl+alt+f1 to switch to console mode. does anyone know why this is? I have performed not updates and have not changed the configuration of my computer so i am not sure why this would happen.

P.S.1 out 15 times when i load the part where i need to type in the passwords to unencrypt the hard drive the keyboard will stop working then instaed of with kde.
