General :: Loading GUI In Fedora
Feb 21, 2011I have installed Fedora in my hard disk,but the GUI is not working.I can still work using my command line,but my mouse is not working.Is there any way out without re-installation?

Read the other threads re OS not loading and GRUB. The talk about code goes over my head.
Local techie says the hardware is good. Tried reloading Ubuntu from CD. Tried loading the unmentionable OS.
Tried using Spotmau Powersuite.

Apr 9, 2010I've a folder named "lynx" in my desktop . It contains ebooks - pdfs,chms etc . The problem is sometimes when i open the folder in nautilus , the folder keep loading forever and sometimes it shows two or three files and keep on loading . But at some other times , folder contents are displayed just as any other folder(i.e normal ).

Mar 19, 2009I have set this up before (ie installed the drivers and had them working perfectly) but had to do a system wide re-install of fedora. Since this clean install, I've had non-stop grief with nVidia drivers. They have been downloaded and installed via yum, and on start-up nvidia.ko loads. But from with gnome I cant gain access to any 'special effects' (ie desktop effects wont enable).

Now it is not loading the kernel module for my Soundblaster 16 ISA pnp card although it was fine in Fedora 9. I can do a $ modprobe snd-sb16and that seems to work fine in that I can

Jul 15, 2009I'm running Fedora 10, it seems to boot normally, but the login screen never appears. all it shows is the cursor with the blue circles running around it, meaning its working on something. I let it sit for about 10 minutes and still no login screen.

Fedora :: Cannot Dual Boot To Win 7 After Loading F11?
Oct 17, 2009I installed Fed 11 after Win 7 was already installed---on my Lenovo T-60 laptop. So I rebooted after a couple of software updates with no option to boot to Win 7. my laptop boots straight to Fed 11. So I was checking grub.conf and it is "x'ed" out. so is menu.lst. I click on them and the message says "grub.conf" is not available. Whats up with that? or is there another place to get to the MBR to give me an option between the 2?

Fedora :: Gnome Not Working Or Loading?
Oct 18, 2010I am using Fedora 13 x86_64 on my notebook.I have been using this for quite sometime now. I have a problem with the Gnome desktop. Here is what happenedI am using gnome with a single panel on the top. I changed the properties of the panel, made it transparent and then changed its position to the bottom. As soon as i did this, my desktop was not responding. I can move the mouse pointer, but the icons and menus and everything else became inactive. Within a minute the music playing in the background stopped working. None of the keyboard shortcuts are working. I waited for sometime but nothing happened, so I restarted the system.
Once I login after restart, the same problem is repeating, nothing loads up. I can just see the default background and the mouse pointer rotating as it does when some process is going on. But nothing loads up even after waiting for 15mins. Right now I am using Xfce which is working perfectly fine. Can someone help me with this.??---------- Post added at 04:01 PM GMT ---------- Previous post was at 11:13 AM GMT --------UPDATEI tried fixing it by uninstalling the gnome desktop and reinstalling it.I did the following command in terminal > yum remove gnome-desktopand it removed several dependancies too. I restarted the system and not even the loginscreen is showing up now.I am trying to install gnome from my fedora live CD. But I cannot figure out how.

Sep 18, 2009I decided on a whim to pursue certifications in other operating systems (currently 70-620 and 70-290 certified with Microsoft) and bought a book on Fedora 10 and installed it on my extra PC. First issue I ran into was that due to my graphics card being an ATI I needed to run in text mode (based off posts on these forums) then once I finally got everything under control and installed, it loads directly into Command Prompt (you folks call it GRUB right?) I can log in as root but I can't do anything this way.It won't even allow me to do things like accept the end user license agreement or create new users or see the GUI.

Sep 19, 2009I installed fedora on my laptop and everything went fine, i installed my bradcom drivers and rebooted.
Next step was kmod for nvidia but when i rebooted i couldn't use fedora anymore cause loading freezes at some point. same thing happens to my desktop pc, where i solved the problem booting with an older kernel (this time i have an error saying "eth0 link not ready" or something like that). Everytime i try to boot with a more recent kernel loading freezes. The point is...i can go through with my desktop pc by choosing another kernel, but i can't even boot with my laptop.

Dec 14, 2009I can create a virtual machine I named vm1 and the virtual-machine manager says it's running.
I don't know how to load windows XP.
The vm1 virtual machine console is frozen with the message "Booting from hard drive." But I know it can't boot from hard drive because I haven't loaded windows XP yet. When I created the vm1 virtual machine I put the windows XP CD in the optical drive and directed the menu to the CD. I heard it running, but still the console is trying to boot from the hard drive. I never got to the point where it asked me any windows XP software loading questions.

1- It told me that there is no sufficient RAM so it logged in text mode. But I have 256 mb RAM and the lowest is 192mb for the graphical mode.
2- The RAM specified in the manual of fedora the DDR or the VGA.
3- After the installation it ask me to log in as shown localhost login:
What should I type in this? Whatever I wrote it ask me to write password. But if I try to write any thing in it, it didn't respond or write any thing.
4- How could I login the graphical mode after installation in text mode.
5- I have encountered another problem when boot the set it load fedora by default and didn't ask me to choose between fedora and previously installed windows xp.

May 5, 2010With the last several updates to Firefox, loading pages from several different sites slows down to (slower than) a crawl - taking sometimes minutes. Most of the time, this occurs loading ads.
I don't remember what release this started with, but I didn't have problems before, and I don't have any problems loading the same web pages on IE8 (running on XP). This is the same on F12 and F11.
I have tried changing some of the securty choices, even tried blocking certain sites, but no luck.
Also, several times after a download, firefox freezes, although the rest of the desktop is okay.

So I did, but then as soon as it tries to load the grub menu, it gives me the following error: no such device: 2cb414b7-7620-48a9-93af-f03aec3495e4How do I restore grub and make it work? Right now I am using the livecd to type this. I do not really need the grub loader since I am only running one OS, which is currently fedora. I recently had Ubuntu 10.04 which did not have grub (at least it is not shown during the boot) and suited me more than fine.

Mar 27, 2010My laptop is running Fedora 12. I installed BackTrack 4 onto an external USB hard drive using a LiveCD. Now when I boot my laptop. I get this: GRUB Loading stage1.5. GRUB loading, wait Error 21. I never touched anything with my internal drive. When I was reviewing what partitions the installer was going to format, the swap partition for my internal drive (Fedora) was set to be formatted even though I did not specify this. Fedora never used to show GRUB loading at all. Screen was blank until Fedora starting loading. Maybe this means that this is a copy of GRUB from my BackTrack disc? I ran 'fdisk' to look for anything suspicious and under /dev/sda1 (internal drive, boot partition) it says "Partition 1 does not end on cylinder boundary."
