Fedora :: Cannot Dual Boot To Win 7 After Loading F11?

I installed Fed 11 after Win 7 was already installed---on my Lenovo T-60 laptop. So I rebooted after a couple of software updates with no option to boot to Win 7. my laptop boots straight to Fed 11. So I was checking grub.conf and it is "x'ed" out. so is menu.lst. I click on them and the message says "grub.conf" is not available. Whats up with that? or is there another place to get to the MBR to give me an option between the 2?
I have encountered a problem when installing fedora 12. 1- It told me that there is no sufficient RAM so it logged in text mode. But I have 256 mb RAM and the lowest is 192mb for the graphical mode. 2- The RAM specified in the manual of fedora the DDR or the VGA. 3- After the installation it ask me to log in as shown localhost login: What should I type in this? Whatever I wrote it ask me to write password. But if I try to write any thing in it, it didn't respond or write any thing. 4- How could I login the graphical mode after installation in text mode. 5- I have encountered another problem when boot the set it load fedora by default and didn't ask me to choose between fedora and previously installed windows xp.
I have Windows xp and Ubuntu 10.04 in my system and last fine morning I was working in windows and when I restarts the system as there were some problem in the audio I found that the grub is not loading. Computer boots directly in the windows xp mode and not giving the possibility to boot in the ubuntu OS. Also, the windows xp restarts continuously with a blue screen for just a second.
This happened out-of-the blue. What might be the possible reason for this and how to get rid of this problem..
I have a windows 7 machine and installed ubuntu 10.4 32 bit in its own partition. I want to replace the 32 bit ubuntu installation with a 64 bit installation. I downloaded the 64 bit version, booted up on the install cd, and started the install. I got as far as the partition set up before chickening out. I was going to use the manual partition option, select the existing ubuntu partition, reformat, and install. I chickened out because i was afraid that this would also reinstall the grub boot loader without the dual boot option disabling my ability to get into win 7. How should i proceed so that i can replace the existing 32 bit ubuntu with a fresh 64 bit install and still be able to boot into win 7?
I have been using Ubuntu for a while now on a netbook and even installed it on another pc, but I never tried dual-booting before... I just recently built a pc (my first custom build), and I'm having major difficulties getting a dual-boot running with Win 7 and Ubuntu 11.04. I'm trying to install these on one hdd. I don't know if it's a hardware issue or not, but the bios doesn't seem to like grub... I installed Win 7 first, and before installing Ubuntu on a separate partition, Win 7 would boot up fine. (Although, sometimes the bios would ignore my key presses for entering the bios menu or the boot-menu... When I only had Windows installed.)
When I turn on the pc, I mostly get a blinking cursor, with no messages at all. Nothing would boot at all, grub doesn't seem to load, and no OS would load by default. This would even happen sometimes after I set CD-ROM as the first item on the boot order list, trying to boot from the Ubuntu liveCD since there was no way for me to reach either of my installs on my HDD. I tried several suggestions I found online, and nothing seems to help. I even tried both grub 1.99 and grub 0.97, but still not much luck, (Although, grub legacy seems to load slightly more often...) I don't really want to have to resort to using Ubuntu through a VM, but it looks like this is the only option left... Is there some way I can dual boot with something other than grub?
Here's something I noticed after trying Ubuntu a few times. I'm not sure how relevant this is to my issue but, at times, on booting from a liveCD, I see several lines appearing that say something like "over-current change on port 2" should I be worried about this? Is something wrong with my mobo or psu? Another thing and this was before installing Ubuntu, when I boot up the pc, my keyboard is sometimes disabled until it's re-plugged in to a usb port. Maybe this has something to do with over-current charge? I'm just trying to figure out if anything needs to be replaced... I got sick of having to replugin the keyboard since I was constantly restarting the pc, so I started using a less fancy keyboard and it seems to be recognized most of the time (sometimes the bios would still ignore my boot-menu key press attempts).
I have installed Debian on my intel iMac, I installed grub first in my root partition and then in the Debian partition. When I boot my Mac, rEFIt brings me to the boot page and shows the Linux drive, but when I choose it, it tries to start up and then gives me the line "Not a bootable drive" and just hangs. How to get this to boot?
WinXP Partition loading as a read only and can't fix it with PYSDM (storage device manager) Let me provide some history as to how everything was installed: From my old WIN XP hard drive I used clonezilla to clone the drive to a partition on my new hard drive for Linux. Windows is on SDA4 which is the last partition of the drive, it is mounted at sda4/windows using ntfs. When I choose to load winXP from the grub boot loader I get dev/sda4 no such device 10CDR36778638F73. Also when I try to unmount from disk utility I get the following error: Error unmounting: umount exited with exit code 1: helper failed with: umount: only root can unmount UUID=10CDF36778638F73 from /windows Seemslike I need to rename the drive but it won't let me in disk utility.
My Problem is that within PYSDM (storage device manager) I uncheck Mount file system (sda4/windows) as a read only but it will not stay unchecked. I have unchecked it hit unmount and mount and it still is checked to mount as a read only. This is the code in options for sda4 in PYSDM (storage device manager) nls=utf8,umask=007,gid=46
I am brand new to Ubuntu and I am trying to find out if its possible. When the laptop starts it gives me 30secs to choose windows or ubuntu? Is there anyway to change the order or the timer?
I just started testing a redhat enterprise linux 5 installation. This installation took place in a Latitude D630 labtop which currently has Ubuntu Desktop in (sda1) and Ubuntu Server in (sda3). My goal was to install Redhat Enterprise Linux 5 into (sda4). Both of the Ubuntu installation boot fine and work, but when I try booting the RHEL it shows a panic in the loading phase as follow VFS: Cannot open root device "sda4" or unknown-block(0,0)Please append a correct "root=" boot optionKernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(0,0)I am wondering what this means, maybe some of you would have a better clue than I do
Just installed FC10. I edited the /etc/inittab to start FC at the command prompt. However, how can I change the boot so that I can see the daemons loading not just that graphical bar at the bottom of the screen.
Yesterday, i just got my Fedora live DVD. When i tried to boot it from my CD/DVD ROM drive, it seems to hang when it's just about to finish loading. From one of the prevous threads, one of the members said that i had to have 2 partitions on my HD. Currently, i already have 2 partitions. Can someone give me advice on what to do??
This doesnt really bother me at all, Im more curious than anything but- When I first installed fedora 9, during startup there was a bootsplash during the boot process. When the kernal was updated, the bootsplash was replaced with scrolling text (I have done several kernal updates, it was after the first one the scrolling text happened). Is there a way of reverting back to the bootsplash or is it more trouble than what its worth?
I currently have XP installed on a NetBook (Samsung NC10), and would like to run Fedora on it. I'm currently looking at putting Fedora onto a flash memory card to test it works OK on the hardware, before installing it to the hard disk. The problem I've got is that the boot sector is occupied by WDE software (TrueCrypt). Will this pose a problem for dual-booting XP with Fedora, or will GRUB move the boot loader in the usual way?

I have an Intel DG33TL MB, Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650, 8GB SuperTalent DDR2-800, and 4 Seagate 500GB hard disks. The disks are connected to a 3Ware 9650SE-4LPML and set for RAID0. I partitioned the drive in the following manner: 900GB for XP-Pro x64 (first install), 100 GB XP-Pro (installed second), and the remaining for FC10. I got a new laptop, this is the one: [URL] and decided that I wanted to go with Fedora instead of Ubuntu with this computer. The laptop runs win 7 64 bit so I'm trying to go with Fedora 64 but it will not boot. I first installed Fedora 12 64 bit from the DVD install and it would go to grub fine but when I boot the fedora os It just stops in the middle of the boot script. When it stops, the last 4 lines are:
I hadn't messed with it for a few weeks and yesterday I saw that 13 was out, so I downloaded and burnt the Fedora 13 64 bit CD. I popped it in, booted the computer and it did the same crap. It didn't stop at the same line but it was around a line with: ? kernel_init So I guess the kernel isn't loading properly or something. Do ya'll think I would be better off using the 32 bit?
there is a way to change the OS boot screen from the blue loading bar at the bottom to something more fancy. For example if you take a look at Oracle Enterprise Linux 6 they have a loading screen that makes an "O" on start up. Note: I am not talking about GRUB, I already know how to change the grub boot screen. If so can someone provide the steps needed to modify the OS loading screen.
I just set up a dual boot on a system with fedora 12 and XP. XP in on one hard drive (sda) and Fedora on a second hard drive (sdb).
I installed grub on the Fedora disk so as to not touch the windows disk at all.
Prior to installation, in the bios, I set the Fedora disk (sdb) first in the boot sequence, and then XP (sda) so that the grub loader would boot up by default. (If I set the windows drive first then the system bypasses grub and loads straight into windows.)
My system can now boot up into Fedora fine, but if I select windows from the grub loader menu I just get a blinking cursor - windows will not boot.What do I have to do so that grub can boot into XP?
I have a PC with three HD's. My primary hard drive has a single partition and contains Win XP SP3. I have a second hard drive which I use to store junk (pictures, movies, etc). The third, 60GB HD, I just put into my PC and I wanted to install Fedora 11 onto it. I want to have a dual boot system with WinXP being the default boot. I downloaded the latest build of Fedora 11, created a LiveCD out of it and I tried to install the OS onto this third new hard drive. I installed the OS, I told it to use the entire third HD and to have a dual boot setup and make the WinXP OS be the default boot. The installation seemed to go without any problems. However, after restarting the PC, the PC stops booting right after the DELL screen. It gives me a cursor and that's it. It just sits there. I have tried redoing the install about 4 different times now and no matter how I change the different installation options, I get the same result. Now I can't even boot into XP even after I disconnect the third drive. I am guessing that the dual boot got screwed up; I just don't know how to fix it and more importantly, how to install Fedora, dual boot.

I start my computer, I get the screen which shows that Fedora will boot in 3 seconds. So I want to install the original version of Fedora 15 and make it dual boot with my Windows 7. Problem here is that I don't have a cd/rom. and the iso file didn't have a .exe thingy.....

I tried a number of times to install dual boot with Win2k. I keep getting errors at the stage of setting up the partition for the install. When I try to choose ext4 it says Fedora cannot be installed on a bootable drive, fix the problem. I don't see how to fix it...it does not say what to do or change.
I have had other linux installed in the same partition without a problem. What gives?

I had installed Fedora 13 on an unused partition of my ATA hard-drive yesterday. The primary OS here was Windows Vista.
Anyway, everything was working fne for coupla hours after which I had to restart F13 for some reason. This is when all the trouble began ..
Fedora wouldn't boot cause of some "power issues" - there were none. Windows Vista wouldn't boot because "BootMGR was missing"
I figured if I removed Fedora using the live CD - format the partition, it would help. It didn't. Well, atleast the partition got formatted. I tried re-installing F13 from the live CD but it doesn't finish the process - saying a command, something to do with 'shutdown' is not valid.
I tried repairing Vista from the Installation DVD but it is unable to do so.
Right now, on rebooting the computing, I enter the 'grub' console. I tried using grub commands to boot "Windows" from the (hd0,0) partition like thus,

After asking on both this forum and the Fedora forum, I felt it was safe enough to install a copy of Fedora on my working-well openSUSE drive. I have a 1 TB drive, partitioned as follows:
I did an install of Fedora 13, was VERY careful to set up the installer to put it's files in the partitions I wanted, although I did let it mark the partition as active, feeling it may have to boot during the installation process.
I had grub installed in the root of the partition rather than the MBR for both systems.
When Fedora finished installing, I rebooted the system only to find that it wouldn't. I got the dreaded "No Boot Device" message.
So, I started the 5 hour process of booting with the parted magic disk, booting with a Gentoo live disk (only one around), monkeying with the install parts of the openSUSE and Fedora disks, swapping drives to Windows to download openSUSE Live CDs (yes, both) and searching the forums and various other web sites for some poor bloke who did the same stupid whatever it was I did, and finally, as I was using fdisk on the Gnome Live CD, I noticed the warning message stating that fdisk would not work on a drive that was partitioned with the GPD format.
Notice that I have 5 partitions? That is not a typo on my part, I used the GPD format when I set it up so I could do what I did without using "imitation" partitions.
When I used parted (the command line editor on the Gnome Live CD) to change the active partition, everything started working again! Well, at least I can boot the openSUSE system, the most important thing.
It is my suspicion that the Fedora install uses fdisk to do it's work, and fdisk just mucks up a GPD formatted disk. Not the information, just the part of the drive that holds the partition table. Perhaps just the flags section. I don't know enough to say with any certainty.
I didn't change the drives parameters during the installation of Fedora, so I don't know of it even offers the GPD partitioning option. If not, I can understand how this sort of thing could happen.
Still....So now all I have to do is make the grub menu, the one installed with openSUSE, boot the Fedora installation on the next partition. Seems simple enough.

I did notice when installing F10 that it remapped my drives, making the WIndows and therefore boot drive /dev/sdb and the Linux Drive /dev/sda. I know this requires changing some of the drive designations (hd0,0 etc) but I've done it twice and ended up only being able to boot into Windows.
Fedora 12 during boot, it shows both option as "Fedora" and "Others". I have windows xp instance installed, which is not coming after selecting "Others".
