i bought an Acer aspire one through an official acer website and i got it for cheaper than a XP one, i got it with Linux on it. As i am someone that looks for a great deal. i took it, I then realized that Linux is pretty hard to operate.can i replace linux with window?
View 3 RepliesI have Windows 7 and openSuse on my Acer Aspira 5532. I find that after using it, I'd rather get rid of Windows 7 all together. However, I want to be careful not to remove the partition that has the Windows 7 Reinstallation boot disk just incase in the future I wish to go back to Windows. Is there a way I can make my entire computer Linux (no dual boot) but also not deleting the Windows 7 reinstallation partition?
Further, can someone example why, on Boot, I have like 5 options to choose from? Like two openSUSE versions, failsafe, Windows 1, and Windows 2....? To be honest, when I installed openSUSE, I just did the recommended partition job that it suggested. I don't know much about partitions.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI tried to install ubuntu 10.10 NBR on an acer aspire one and the install crashed, it is a known problem but my main problem is that the 250gb SATA is partitioned in two and then i deleted linux swap and the ubuntu 10.10 partition to make free space.
a) how can i resize the windows 7 (dreadful OS) to what size it originally was
b) if i install an older version of ubuntu (10.04) will it boot up as if i chose the partition alongside other OS or will i have to install a bootloader (I have never done a specify partitions install)
C) is it that acer aspire one's cant load any version of ubuntu (I know a mad idea as ubuntu has many drivers and should work with it.)
I am trying to install Fedora 12 on an Acer Aspire AMD 64 2 with 1 GB of memory.
I downloaded the Fedora 12 live CD Fedora-12-X86_64-ISO.
When I try to boot from that CD, I get a message "irq 17 too bust" and the system hangs before finishing the boot process. So I have very little to go on.
Ps. I previously installed Kubuntu 9.1 without any problems.
I recently installed openSuSE 11.2 on an Acer Aspire One, but when the installer try to start the new kernel with kexec it hang up, and if I reboot the system it hang up always, also says that the Acer BIOS is unknown.
View 3 Replies View RelatedHad the RC versions of 11.2 running on my laptop but now the release version is out X no longer installs properly, it gets so far through the installation but then goes to a black screen which is totally unresponsive. If I force a power-off/on it only comes up in text mode and I cannot get X to start automatically. I can get startx to work if I manually reconfigure sax2 using 0=radeon but no way can I get this to happen at startup. Seems a very retrograde situation and something that completely got past quality control.
Probably the end of my time with OpenSuse having been a user for over 5 years, at least Ubuntu installs straight in with no problems whatsoever - exactly what I would have expected from OpenSuse.
I have been attempting to install Ubuntu 10.10 on my Acer Aspire One for a few days now. Its current OS is Win7 Starter, if that even matters.
-I made a USB drive and Ubuntu boots and runs just fine.
-I hit the "install Ubuntu" icon and it has me choose my language, then I hit forward.
-It asks if I want to install updates and/or third party apps, I check the boxes and hit forward - and then it just sits there with the cursor spinning like its trying to do something, but it never does. The longest I have let it sit there was four hours, and still nothing happened.
**This is the step it always stops on. Could the problem be that I am trying to install the desktop version instead of the netbook version? I tried the netbook version and I just don't like it as much.

View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter loading Ubuntu 10.10 on an Acer Aspire 5100, I find that the onboard LAN does not work. My router "sees" the laptop but my laptop does not "see" the router. Ubuntu says that the firmware is not installed.
I read earlier posts about an issue with Broadcom and later editions of Ubuntu but I haven't seen a definitive fix. With the LAN not working, it is not possible to connect to the Internet and further compounds the problem. My understanding is that the Acer Aspire 5100 uses a Broadcom LAN. How can I install the firmware that it is asking for?

I wonder if you can help me please. I purchased an Acer Aspire One netbook running Linpus Linux on it for my daughter. She absolutely love it and so far I have managed to update Open Office to Open Office 3.0.1, installed Skype and installed Firefox 3.She has been doing her homework and would like to print it off but I can't get my Epson DX8450 to work with it. I tried installing drivers from http://www.avasys.jp/lx-bin2/linux_e/spc/DL1.do (which is where Epson tell you to go). I installed some drivers and the printer started to print it was doing some strange things like printer two lines of the same single line, missing the top off the letters and putting two line spaces in between each line.
I am all new to this but does anybody advice or even provide step by step instructions on how to install the printer (if they have this model printer themselves).Also how to I remove the drivers that I installed last night that obviously are incompatible?
I have F11 running on my Acer laptop and I'd like to install F13 on a newly created partition.I have downloaded the DVD install a couple of days ago and tried to boot it using different options, but always failed. Below my attempts:
1) first option (Install or upgrade): it took a looooong time (like 4 or 5 hours) to get to the Loading vmlinuz message; after a couple more hours it was still there (with 4 or 5 dots more) and I decided that enough was enough;
2) second option (basic video driver): I tried it with and without the nomodeset option and in both cases the Loading vmlinuz message was immediate, but couldn't get past it;
3) first option (Install or upgrade) with the nomodeset option: again the Loading vmlinuz message was immediate, it added up to 10 or 11 dots and then hung;
4) I also tried to boot the same DVD on another laptop (just to rule out media problems) and quickly reached the first install screen, so the DVD is ok I think.
Note that in ALL the above described attempts, when the boot process hang I see my HD led constantly on and also the DVD led flashing.

i can't seem to get a fresh install to boot on a Acer Aspire T160 desktop computer, after the install finishes (basic install, command line only) it gets past 'Verifying DMI Pool.......' but then nothing, it just hangs, no Grub messages, nothing. Here is my hardware/config
Proc: Sempron 3200
Mem: 512 MB
/dev/hda1 110GB / Bootable
/dev/hda2 4GB Swap
/dev/md0 150GB /home
/dev/sda1 RAID
/dev/sdb1 RAID
i have tried RAID1 and RAID0 for md0, no change, i've also disconnected the raid all together and just installed on the IDE drive, still nothing. I noticed the BIOS supports hardware RAID but i have that disabled from past experiences and opting for software raid instead. i've gone through 'linux rescue' and reinstalled Grub, rebuilt raids and checked disks.
an interesting thing happens tho if i just have the IDE drive plugged in and nothing else... i get a BIOS message asking to plug in a bootable disk, does this mean it doesn't see my linux install at all? doesn't know to pass the boot along to /dev/hda?
i'm running out of ideas, tho neither have i tried installing to the raid... nor have i tried any other distros (Fedora, Ubuntu) on this machine yet.
i have lost internet on acer aspire one when i tried to add firefox 3.6 and cannot solve the problem.....i have tried several times and nothing works, it tells me it either failed or is unknown..... i can't even get back to firefox 2....everything was ok until i added adobe flashplayer and when i rebooted to make it work there was no internet at all and it's my sisters netbook not mine.

Even linux lite lacked the drivers to run several things. Is it possible to do this??? If it can be fully installed I will definitely go for a new cyber life with linux but if not I may have to remain a thrall to bill gates and go for a Eee PC netbook instead.

Just for openers, I don't understand how you "open" (?) "load" (?).EXE files or make them happen.I have been using Windows all my life & to remember you just CLICK on a .exe file and it just 'happens'
Specifically, I am in Turkey and had to purchase a dongle from a Turkish phone company to access the Internet. When I insert the dongle, it shows the relevant .EXE file but when I click on it, nothing happens. No-one here knows LINUX.

I installed Ubuntu 10.10 on a Laptop Acer Aspire 3000 everything works perfect... excluding.... the Wireless Networks.
1. I cannot check marked Enable Wireless
2. Wireless Network disabled
The driver is installed when I installed Ubuntu 10.10 it asked me to install this. Is not a problem of driver I think. It is a Broadcom Corporation BCM4312
I found out the following:
1. I tried rfkill unblock all with negative results
2. rfkill list phy0: Wireless LAN, Soft blocked: no, Hard blocked: yes
3. look in the file system: NetworkingEnabled=true, WirelessEnabled=false, WWANEnabled=true

I powered up the acer aspire one zg5 and it goes to the first screen but does not connect to the internet when I press the internet button the wifi connection is fine and will download updates fine but will not connect to the browser, am so out of my depth as not familiar with this system , if I dont fix this will have to blame one of the kids.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI haven't had a problem with this yet, but today I was online via my wifi connection and then the network center said there was no connection. My modem said I had full bars, and I tried restarting both the modem and the laptop, but nothing. The internet works if I plug in the ethernet cable, but will not pick up the wifi signal. I called my service provider and for 2 hours they couldn't figure out how to connect it because it has Linux. They tried to set up a new password protected network because they said the modem was working fine, so they had me delete the old network from the computer... but when I tried to set up a new network it still was not picking up a wireless signal. Ive tried flicking the switch on the front of the laptop and it still will not pick up a signal. Please help me out with this... I have no clue how to use Linux!
