My server was set to automatically install updates, and stopped working while I was away. When I got back to it, it now has a boot menu to choose between kernel versions, with no default or timer. So I pick one, and there are heaps of other problems. the /home partition isn't mounting, despite the fstab being unchanged. I can mount it manually using mount with no problems /var/syslog has nothing since April, and isn't updating when I reboot, so I'm not sure what I can cut and paste to here for you all to look at. The networking isn't running, in fact, most of the network interfaces aren't even showing up.That's just what I've identified so far. I have no idea where to start. I can't find anything wrong other than the fact it's not working.I can't copy and paste any output at this point, because I can't ssh,
View 3 Replies View RelatedAfter a fresh install of Ubuntu 11.04 (from 10.04) and spending several hours trying to figure out why the ad-hoc connection between my two computers (Fedora14 <-> Ubuntu 11.04) no longer worked - it had worked fine for almost 2 years with 10.04 - I've finally concluded it was a DHCP problem. This realisation (which was slow in coming!) dawned on me when I reversed my setup and configured the Fedora box as the DHCP server and everything was suddenly working perfectly! A quick internet search threw up an installation file called "isc-dhcp-server" which other Ubuntu 11.04 - related forums are also complaining about. My problem is that this file, although available in the repository, is not even installed!!!
It seems unlikely that the developers forgot to include DHCP support, so I hope someone can point me in the right direction.
i did install opensuse and everything ok; i did configure it to be the server and gateway for a little office network Everything seems to be ok most of the time but sometimes (usually between 5 and 7 pm each day) internet stops working and there is no way to let it start again. So i turn off the suse, switch all cables to the old fedora server, just turn it on fedora and internet works. Turn off fedora, connect suse, let it start and everythng ok...it happens all the times

I am trying to install Linux with an SD card via an internal SD card reader on my MacBook Pro. When booting and pressing 'C', the system hangs forever. When booting and pressing 'Option', the same thing happens. Doesn't seem to be working.I used ode:dd if=/path/to/iso of=/path/to/sdcardto put the image on the SD card. The image itself was verified with MD5. It should be noted that Mac OS X can not read the SD card (bringing up an error) and installing rEFIt (a bootloader toolkit) and attempting to boot the computer results in yet another hang.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have two servers. One of them has a svn server running and another hosting projects.
I have a daily cronjob updating the projects -- ie running svn update, rebuild etc.
Now, my cronjob on the remote server works.
However, a similar cronjob running on the local server for local projects (ie the same server as svn) is instead displaying a "svn: not working copy".
I double checked the paths, permissions and user info and if the script is launched manually, it works fine.
Deploying the same thing remotely works.
I even tried using file:/// (suggested here http://www.hightekhosting.com.au/myaccount/knowledgebase/90/Using-SubversionorSVN-on-cPanel-Servers.html) but still nothing.
Last night I jumped into the linux world and finally installed Ubuntu in a dual boot system with XP on board as well (eventually I want to get rid of this). How can I get my wireless Belkin F5D8233-4 router working. I put the install disk in and it shows on the desktop but unable to execute - keep getting an error message. Getting frustrated...
View 6 Replies View RelatedWith nearly all Linux distributions (Ubuntu, Kubuntu, and Linux Mint being the exceptions), my system never seems to recognize that my laptop even has a wireless card attached to it. That is, when I run "lspci" the wireless card doesn't even show up on the list like it does with Ubuntu/Kubuntu/Mint. This narrows my options when it comes to choosing a distro to install on my computer. I can't seem to find instructions as to how I can make my wireless card work. I assume it needs a driver. I managed to find the driver, I think, in the form of a .tar.gz file. The card is a Realtek Semiconductor, RTL 8191SEvB Wireless Lan Controller (rev 10).

View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm no expert on DHCP. My problem is that i have a CentOS 5.5 server on which i want to install a DHCP server. I have two NICs where eth0 has access to the internet and where eth1 should act as an DHCP server.
I have installed dhcpd and this is how my dhcpd.conf file looks like.
Code:
ifconfig looks like this
Code:
When i start dhcpd on eth1 i get no error messages but when i connect any devices to eth1 they don't get any IP. I cant find anything in any logs about devices trying to get an IP address. I dont have any firewall rules in iptables.
i compiled and install postfix, and i using relayhost that point to my ISP. but my "DNS server" is on the same server where is installed postfix. and there is running apache with vhosts so i have domain that hosted on same server and in zonefiles of my domain my MX records points to Google Apps, to google's MX servers. But when i try send E-mail via sendmail to mail@mydomainonsameserver.com it not deliver mail to Google Apps totally, if i try to send to another E-mail everything fine it deliver it. so finally i done research this problem in Internet. And find that need to disable deliver mail to localhost(localdelivery)as i think postfix understand that the domain point to the same server where postfix have itself. and try to deliver mail local. but zonefile MX record even the domain on same server can point to another server outside. So i disabled localdelivery in postfix. and problem not fixed

View 18 Replies View RelatedWhilst I have used GUI-based Linux distros for the last few years, I am now struggling somewhat when it comes to setting up a server from the command line. All the howto's I've read so far tell you how to set up certain things, but I don't know what I actually need to set up.Rather than asking the same questions all over again on a forum like this, and generally being a bit of a noob, I wonder if there's a resource somewhere that someone could direct me to in order to know what I need to do to set up a fileserver.
The hardware is all done, and I will probably set up a router distro like IpCop to manage the network, but I'm rather lost as to what packages I need, and how to know what the server is/isn't doing.I've used plenty of command lines in the past (ms dos, amiga dos, BASIC programming etc), just not a linux command line. All I've ever done is mount a few drives, use nmap and started x
OS: CentOS 5.3
vsftpd ver: vsftpd-2.0.5-12.el5_3.1
I installed vsftpd server in one of my servers using "yum install vsftpd" command. NFS server is running in the other server and mounted as "/data" in this FTP server. root in FTP server has also root authority in NFS server. All the files and sub-folders under "/data" in FTP server have 755 or 766 mode. Even I modified vsftpd setting to allow root login.
When I login as root to FTP server with FileZilla client, I can see all the file list in root home directory and move to /data directory. I can download any file in a local HDD but I can not download any file in /data directory.
should i install LVM in ubuntu server?
i have only one primary partition.
what happens if i dont install it?
i want to do linux installation on client machine from server.
i configured NFS server. i actually installed all 5 CD's to one directory. these are not iso images.
i created directory /serverimage and inside this i created directory for each linux cd. i.e linuxcd1, linuxcd2 and so on ..
now my directory structure is :
cd /serverimage
ls
linuxcd1
linuxcd2
linuxcd3
linuxcd4
linuxcd5
now i exported /serverimage in /etc/exports
but when i boot my client machine with the first linux cd. and using linux askmethod
i selected NFS. i entered ip address for nfs server and directory as /serverimage
but it is not taking. saying unable to mount.
shall i create .iso images. i dont want to use .iso images since i want to configure yum repository later once client is installed. i dont know if yum repository can be installed using iso images on the server. so i just copied cdrom to directories to share it via nfs.
