General :: Update Svn Working Copy Via Cron When Its Server Located On Local?

Aug 3, 2010

I have two servers. One of them has a svn server running and another hosting projects.

I have a daily cronjob updating the projects -- ie running svn update, rebuild etc.

Now, my cronjob on the remote server works.
However, a similar cronjob running on the local server for local projects (ie the same server as svn) is instead displaying a "svn: not working copy".

I double checked the paths, permissions and user info and if the script is launched manually, it works fine.
Deploying the same thing remotely works.

I even tried using file:/// (suggested here http://www.hightekhosting.com.au/myaccount/knowledgebase/90/Using-SubversionorSVN-on-cPanel-Servers.html) but still nothing.

Server :: Cron Does LDAP Query For Local User?

May 19, 2010

We've got crontabs set up in /etc/cron.d to run various things, and we have them running as a specific local user.

Watching the LDAP logs, I can see the servers in question making requests for that username to the LDAP server every time cron runs, even though that user isn't in LDAP and is only local. nsswitch is configured to do "files ldap" as well.

The constant stream of LDAP queries is killing LDAP and making it impossible to log into our boxes.

why cron is querying LDAP for a local user?

Server :: Cron Job Not Working?

Jun 1, 2011

I have a cron job to run every 15 minutes. The cron job is running per /var/log/cron. It lists the job every 15 minutes.

[Code]...

I do not see any errors. I also looked in /var/log/messages for any errors and it does not list any. I added a line to the script that is running to send an email to me to see if it is running or not. When I run the script from the command line, the script runs without error and I get an email. I have searched and can not find what it going on. Is there some where else errors might be? Could there be a permission issue? The cron job is not being added by the root user.

Programming :: How To Update Working Copy From Tagged Release?

Jan 8, 2010

I'm pretty new subversion, and have a basic question which I haven't found the answer to:Say that I on machine A modify the working copy of my code, create a tag "release-1.0", and commit it, how can I on machine B point the working copy to the tagged code? For example, say my "code" is actually config files for Apache, and I wan't apache running on machine B to update it's config files based on the files found in tag "release-1.0", how is this done?

I'm sure the solution is very easy, but I just can wrap my head around it.

General :: Copy Directory (Local) From Terminal And Show Progress Bar?

Aug 19, 2010

I am new both here and in Linux. As the subject says, I would like to learn how to copy a directory (not a file) from terminal with progress bar showing. The copy is local, i.e., not to another computer. My distro is CentOS 5.5. I know that if I do it with nautilus I would see the progress, but I want to learn how to do it from the terminal. I know that PV command can show a progress bar, but from what I saw, it works well for files, but not for directories (recursive).

Is it possible to use PV for directories? If yes, could you please show me the syntax? I also saw that some people mentioned that rsync can also show a progress bar, I tried to do it, but it didn't work out - perhaps I got the syntax wrong. If rsync can really be used to copy directories with progress bar, show me the syntax? Any other ideas on how to do it? I would like ideas that do not involve using any script, i.e., just something that I can do using the regular commands.

General :: Why Dolphin Makes Local Copy When Play A Remote .avi File

Oct 15, 2010

i am using dolphin 1.5 in kde 4.5.2. whenever i try to access movie file from remote samba server. dolphin copies the movie file to somewhere in local hard disk. so, i have to wait until a big file transferring complete. i know that it happens when i open .avi using mplayer. if i open the same remote file with kmplayer, it will player immediately instead of making local copy first. however, kmplayer is very slow and sounds and video stream breaking up, (i am sorry i do not know right english expression for this) i suppose this is not related to mplayer configuration. this seems to be dolphin problem. can i make dolphin to stop copying samba share to local disk and play instantly? there is a video in videos. it is comparing how dolphin and nautilus act differently when i play remote samba share movies.

OpenSUSE :: How To Create A Local Update Server

Aug 26, 2011

We have several linux hosts at our site. I would like to set one of the servers to offer a local update service rather than have each host contact the public servers for update information. This would greatly speed the updates for each host since we only have a DSL connection (about 1.2Mbps transfer rate). Is there a tutorial somewhere that describes how to set up a "shadow" update server?

General :: Page 2 - Scheduled Cron Job Stepped Working

Sep 8, 2011

The back.sh script is being run as user basil, whcih means that when it comes to copying the backup file to the target location you do not have the correct permissions to access the contents of the directory (it is rwx by root only). So, what do we do? Hoping it is ONLY the directory permissions which are fouling things up we have a range of options which, in not particular order of 'good', include:

a) change ownership/permission on target directory.
b) have the back.sh script run by the root user
c) set up sudo to permit the file copy to be done by root
d) use setuid on the back.sh to have it run, effectively, as root

A lot of the answer will depend upon what else the Dropbox directory is for. If it's JUST for your backups for this then I'd be inclined to:

Code:

chown basil /root/Dropbox
chmod g+rwx /root/Dropbox

which will permit the basil user full access and thus allow the file operations being done and give root access via the group permissions (not that the root user really needs this). Also, I'd be inclined to:

Code:

chown basil /home/xxxx/moo3/bin/back.sh
chmod u=rwx,g=rx,o= /home/xxxx/moo3/bin/back.sh

which will make things 'look' better, it just reinforces the point that the script is run (and owned) by the basil user.
