General :: Error: Bootmgr Is Compressed, Press Ctrl+Alt+Del To Continue

Here's my problem: While choosing to compress certain folders from within Windows 7, I marked the boot manager as 'compressed'. Now, when I try to boot, I'm not able to boot into Windows 7, or any other OS (I get an error: bootmgr is compressed, press Ctrl+Alt+Del to continue, which restarts the system and the same cycle continues.
I have a Windows 7 + open SUSE + Ubuntu 10.04 LTS wubi install boot setup. To complicate things, its a laptop, and the DVD drive is conked. Is there any way I can boot into any of my OS's? If not using a live boot, can I, perhaps make a bootable USB flash drive, boot into it and uncompress the boot manager ? Note: I'm typing this from another desktop, and I do not have Windows installed on this.

The system worked fine for me until one fine day, when I boot up I get this message: BOOTMGR is missing Press Ctrl + Alt + Del to restart
I checked the BIOS to make sure it ran the correct drive first but no go. I tried reinstall ubuntu but it doesnt seem to work. I dont have windows running on this machine.

I have just assembled my computer and installed Fedora 13. After rebooting I get Error 25: Disk read error, Press any key to continue. When I do that the systems goes back to the GRUB window where I continue to press enter and it goes back to the error after a while.

I'm randomly getting 'Continue to wait; or press S to skip mounting or M for manual recovery...' or something like that at boot ((it flashes very quickly)- If I don't press anything, I'm prompted for my password (I configured it to login with password) and the desktop loads...

I was using my 1TB hdd to dual-boot linux, windows, and for storage...Yesterday, I imaged the linux partition, and restored it to an approximately 66GB partition I created on a 150GB hdd...Besides the 66GB partition, the rest of the 150GB hdd is 'unallocated space'... I dual booted xp home ed with ubuntu netbook remix10.4 and in the grub loader (i did side by side install) it shows xp at the bottom (after ubuntu, ubuntu recovery mode, memcheck64 , xp
All of the loaders work fine (ubuntu loads fine, im typing this from ubuntu.) but xp will just say: Disk Read Error. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del
One hard drive is partioned 500GB HD ([440gb XP partition] + [60gb ubuntu])

I recently upgraded Ubuntu, however I have two problems with the upgrade.
1) When ever starting up my computer, after selecting my operating system (from grub2) I receive an error stating "error no argument specified press any key to continue" after pressing any key my computer starts up. How can I remove (fix) the error?
2) immediately after Firefox starts it freezes. I see the screen saying that Firefox has crashed but I am unable to click on any of the choices (restore session, start new session). I tried uninstalling it from the repository and then reinstalling it, however, that had no effect.
I have no problem removing Firefox completely (and losing all of my preferences) in order to solve the problem. The only problem is that I do not know how to reinstall Firefox (other then the way I tried). I also have no problem reinstalling Ubuntu, and I might even do so I just want to wait until I am sure that that would no mess up grub any more.

I installed ubuntu today by installing Wubi and after downloading i rebooted computer and selected ubuntu but i got an error saying 'Try (hd0,0): FAT16: NO WUBILDR' and there was few more but i forgot and at the end it says 'Cannot find GRLDR in all device Press CTRL+ALT+DELETE to restart'. it used to work when i had vista...

I got this keyboard no found error...no problem since my grub menu 1st entry is ubuntu...so once I got to load ubuntu, the keyboard magically works.
Basically when booting, it show "Keyboard not detected, press f1 to continue" then at the grub menu, I am not able to select win xp or anything. So by default 1st entry is ubuntu so I can boot into ubuntu.
Once ubuntu is loaded, I can use the keyboard to enter my password....
So I was wondering if the cmos battery is flat...but still why can't my key board be detected when booting up?

I don't know what kind of problem it is. seems strange. I was used to using windows xp previously. Recently, i installed Ubuntu 11.04. i used ubuntu more than windows- rarely i peeped into windows. BUT, 3/4 days ago, when i tried to run xp, it only shows a message(on a black window/screen):
"NTLDR MISSING PRESS CTRL+ALT+DEL TO RESTART"
If i press ctrl+alt+del, it only restarts and if i again try to run xp, it shows the above message again; BUT windows xp doesn't run. i don't know what to do.

Though I kinda do wish that I could just fully migrate to Fedora (or Linux in general), I still do need Vista for some things (like, until I can get this mess with my tablet and speakers sorted out). However, when I tried to boot into Vista this morning (by selecting "other" in GRUB) it said "BTMNGR is missing. Press Ctrl-Alt-Delete to restart."
Will I have to use the Vista Home Premium installation disc to fix this? Surely, telling it to automatically fix startup problems would work, right? I'll try later today PS This problem could also be related to my other 'yum update' problems. All of my problems started when I performed a whole kernel update, so that could also be why I can't boot into vista.

Today I tried to boot up Win 7 but it appeared "BOOTMGR is missing" error. I boot from windows dvd, selected repair but it didn't found my windows install. I have to use rebuildbcd - didn't work, then mark my partition as active - I figured out that it was active and I marked it as inactive and now grub is also broken and I'm using live cd.

I use ubuntu 10.10. Everything was great until i formatted my C drive which had win xp. Now at startup an error message occurs instead of booting ubuntu (BOOTMGR is missing. Press Cntrl+alt+delete to restart). I searched a little bit and found that may be I need to install GRUB (boot loader). how do i install grub? using "fdisk -l" .. I found out that my bootable partition is C drive (NTFS /dev/sda1) while ubuntu is installed on another partition (ext3 /dev/sda3)!

My previous setup was Windows Vista on partition 1, Windows 7 on partition 2, and my recovery partition on partition 3. I'm trying to switch from vista to fedora (cuz I hate vista), so I removed partition 1 and 3, expanded partition 2 a bit (from 80 gig to 150), and moved it all the way to the left with gparted. This gave me a 150g partition labled sda2 as my first partition. I then installed fedora on the (about) 150g of free space. After going into fedora, I used fdisk /dev/sda with menu option f to fix my partition labels. Now I have Windows 7 on partition sda1, fedora's boot on sda2, and fedora on a logical volume in sda3.
My issue is that I have that same old error bootmgr is missing when I try to boot to windows 7. I checked my grub menu, my fdisk, it all looks good to me, so hopefully someone can help me out. If I'm unable to do this without reformatting, could someone please advise me on a program to clone my windows 7? I have a lot of expensive programs on there that I could, in theory, go back to the manufacturer and request a new copy, but I doubt if I even have any license keys written down and I don't know where they would be, so hopefully I can pull them all off and have them work on a new install. I just got a new computer that has Windows 7 Ultimate, and I want to install Ubuntu to a partition that I created. I want to be able to re-add my Windows 7 to the GRUB, without erasing either of my operating systems. I have seen people that changed the menu.lst file, but got the BOOTMGR not found error. Will I get this problem? My computer came with one drive split in two partitions, WIN7 and DATA. I took 150GB out of the DATA partition to make a new one called Linux. So, how would I put Windows 7 in GRUB, but not erase eithr operating system, and will I get the BOOTMGR not found error?

I have a something.gz file. When I type gunzip -c something.gz this commend open the file but at the end of the file I get an error message invalid compressed data--length error. Also if I type more at the and of this commend like gunzip -c something.gz | more, file would not open. It gives some meaningless characters.I want to open this file with more.

I am having difficulties to untar a file in x86_64, although it is working in x86.
I made sure file is the same and the md5 match in both machines.
It seems like something special in x86_64 is causing it to fail.

I have 3 layouts: USA, Russian and Hebrew. In Hebrew the W key is mapped to apostrophe, so Ctrl+W in Hebrew layout doesn't close tabs in Firefox. There is no workaround for it as I see by now, so I am trying to get it work this way:I want to map Ctrl+W in Hebrew layout(which is actually a Ctrl+') to be a Ctrl+w. I am running Debian squeeze and I am trying to install hplip-3.10.5 so I can use my new HP Photosmart C4750 printer.I downloaded the automatic installer and ran it and it gave me the following error message:

So I ran apt-get install cups-image and got the following:

I just installed F12 lastnight and I went to run updates and the update manager said that there were unexpected errors and could not continue. I tried again today and same results. There are something like 321Mb of updates to run so...would be nice to get this machine updated.

I was upgrading from lenny to squeeze. At the apt-get dist-upgrade step, at some point (after upgrading and configuring) it tried to create a new certificate for my mail server but creation of the certificate failed, dpkg reported an error and the whole process exited with error. So I rebooted the machine and issued again apt-get dist-upgrade but now the certificate was created successfully . After that it upgraded mysql-client and the process finished.
But I don't know if configuring of the upgraded packages has stopped at the point where dpkg stopped. I suppose so, because very few packages were configured at that point. Is the solution to run dpkg-reconfingure -a (or -u ?) or dpkg --confingure -a or something else ? (dpkg has the PACKAGE STATES)
dpkg --configure --pending gives me no package for configuration.PS: At least I hope that all packages were upgraded and a few were not configured. Is there a way to confirm that all packages were upgraded ?

not solved the correct way, reloaded using the backup i had the foresight to make i separated / into 3 partitions (/, /tmp, and /var) and after a lot of work (and hair pulling) i can now boot and login but i am getting these 2 errors during bootup
