Ubuntu :: No Operative Terminal When Pressing CTRL+ALT+F1
Jul 3, 2011Can't get into terminal mode by pressing any hotkey CRTL+ALT+F1 .... F6.Displays seems to freeze, a blank screen is shown whit some bright spread pixels at the top. Although I can return to graphical mode by pressing CTRL+ALT+F7 without problems.

Jan 12, 2010Every time I login, compositing is disabled. I have to manually go into settings and Desktop and press 'resume compositing.' When I press it, it says: "compositing has been suspended by another application, press alt+shift+f12 to resume." So if i press the key combination, of course it does resume, but i have to go through this process every time i start the computer. here's my xorg.conf:

Fedora :: Numbers Lock Turn Off When First Press Shift Key
Feb 9, 2010You will not believe that. Such crazzy thing! When I first press the Shift key (in KDE session), the Numbers Lock function (LED) turn off. Then I have to press NumLock key twice to turn it on. First press has no effect. Second turn it on.
And another strange thing. I can disable this strange efect, if I manually turn NumLock off an then on.
I thing, I will rename Fedora to Pandora. Because there is more that little strange things. About 12 I counted. But there is no time and place to write all 12. Maybe another day.
Server :: Pressing Ctrl Alt Del System Not Rebooting?

Aug 12, 2010For some strange reason I am not able to highlight/select words using Ctrl , Shift and the arrow keys together. Each of them work individually with the arrow keys but. Is there anyway I can find out if I have assigned a shortcut to that particular combination ? (Nothing is listed in keyboard shortcuts)

May 1, 2011Since upgrading to the final version of 64Bit Natty, I have a problem with the mouse randomly freezing, I cannot do anything with it. So far the cure is to press enter, which also sometimes starts a program or logs out, but not all the time. In fact generally it just unfreezes the mouse and I carry on!It is though rather annoying so if there is a solution to this I would appreciate it.It never happened with the Beta versions just the final one!

Ubuntu :: Shift Ctrl V No Longer Pastes In Terminal In 10.10
Oct 29, 2010I have noticed since installing ubuntu 10.10 a few weeks back, that pasting into terminals no longer works as expected. In earlier releases, shift+ctrl+v would paste the contents of the clipboard to the terminal. However, now shift+ctrl+v no longer does this. According to the keyboard shortcuts window, shift+ctrl+v is the shortcut for pasting. How can I find out if another program is using this keybinding and thus preventing me from pasting in a terminal? I've looked in System > Preferences > Keyboard Shortcuts but there's nothing relevant in there. Is there a program that I can run to see how the system responds to me pressing shift+ctrl+v? Is there anything else that I can try to fix this problem. I've grown used to pressing shift+ctrl+v to paste now, and having to remember to press shift+Ins does slow me down

Oct 16, 2010I'm running Kubuntu 10.10, with KDE 4.5.2, what I've noticed is every so often my Tab, Caps, Shift, Ctrl, Alt, Super keys stop working. I'd been running Ubuntu 10.04 with Gnome and hadn't ever come across this issue. I'm not sure if this is related to KDE 4.5.2 or is possibly because I updated to 10.10 and would also occur on a Gnome environment.If I switch to my virtual machine (VMWare Workstation 7.1.2 build-301548 which I was able to get working on 10.10 using URL.... the keys work within that but if I switch back to my host desktop they stop working.To fix it I've found logging out or unplugging the keyboard and plugging it into a different USB port fixes it.

Sep 22, 2010My Ubuntu was working perfectly fine until this morning. It is the latest release (10.04 I think) and it is the 64 bit version. This morning I go to my computer and see there are some updates waiting. I install the updates without paying much attention to them. I really do not remember what the updates were. Then Ubuntu asks me to restart so I restart. After restart I get the usual log in screen and I hear the drums. I put in my password, press enter and then the log in screen disappears and I expect to see my desktop. But that does not happen. Instead in a split second after disappearing, the log in screen reappears and I hear the drums again.
At the beginning I thought that I simply forgot my password. But that is unlikely because I have been using the same password for 6 years now. But just in case I tried an incorrect password and I got a different behavior. If I put in an incorrect password, Ubuntu will simply say "authentication failed" and the log in screen will not disappear. When I put in the correct password, the log in screen disappears for a split second (as if my password is correct) but then instead of taking me to the desktop it takes me back to the log in screen and sounds the drums again.

I checked the BIOS to make sure it ran the correct drive first but no go. I tried reinstall ubuntu but it doesnt seem to work. I dont have windows running on this machine.

Mar 2, 2011So Ive had this issue off and on for a while now, but have never really looked to see if others have had it or how I can fix it. Essentially the problem is that kde seems to randomly decide that I am holding down the shift or ctrl key.Im using a logitech cordless desktop s510, running openSUSE 11.3 x86_64. Ive had this problem on and off using a couple of different logitech keyboards. The most often time when it happens with the shift key is when im coding, and the control key when Im running a keyboard shortcut.
I can usually fix the issue by holding down the key that kde thinks is pressed for like 5-10 seconds and releasing, however sometimes I have to unplug and then replug in the usb adapter for kde to get things right. This doesnt happen if im running a non-graphical terminal (thouhg I cant say whether it happens in gnome as I dont have gnome installed) so I am thinking its related to kde. The keyboard can be plugged into other computers and they dont act the same way.
This gets esspecially annoying when Im coding (because of all the symbols) and generally when the issue occurs. I think it may have something to do with the key being pressed for over a certain length.

I don't understand why I cannot use Ctrl-Ins and Shift-Ins shortcuts for copy and paste in console terminal. Shortcuts works fine in X terminal (fluxbox) Konsole... but they don't in text console.

Jan 22, 2010I have never in a year had a problem with this d-boot system. Two days ago I tried to boot into ubuntu like every day. It started to load normal, went to the ubuntu logo and paused for about 15 seconds and posted this under the logo:

Fedora :: Entering Unicode Characters In Gnome Via Ctrl+Shift+u / No Longer Works

I had gotten quite used to this method in order to input several symbols and if you know what you want, it is a lot faster compared to using the character map. This was working in all recent Fedora versions.Does anyone know how to enable this functionality?

Jan 21, 2010I am not a new user of linux but the last time I used linux was five years ago.
I am having a hard time using less. It dont want to accept commands immediately. I need to press 'Enter' to accept the command.
Like if I press 'q' to quit, it will echo 'q' and dont do anything. I have to press 'Enter' to make it quit. Same with other commands.
I am using Windows PuTTy 0.60 with ssh to connect to linux machine.

Jul 2, 2010Here's my problem: While choosing to compress certain folders from within Windows 7, I marked the boot manager as 'compressed'. Now, when I try to boot, I'm not able to boot into Windows 7, or any other OS (I get an error: bootmgr is compressed, press Ctrl+Alt+Del to continue, which restarts the system and the same cycle continues.
I have a Windows 7 + open SUSE + Ubuntu 10.04 LTS wubi install boot setup. To complicate things, its a laptop, and the DVD drive is conked. Is there any way I can boot into any of my OS's? If not using a live boot, can I, perhaps make a bootable USB flash drive, boot into it and uncompress the boot manager ? Note: I'm typing this from another desktop, and I do not have Windows installed on this.

Ubuntu Installation :: Lucid 10.04 On Playstation - PS3 - Cd Is Automatically Ejected And Prompted To Press Enter

(specifically: ubuntu-10.04-desktop-powerpc+ps3.iso via torrent)
Installation runs smoothly up until 100% and then i am prompted to reboot.
When i click reboot, i get info on some daemons(?) shutting down(i think) and then the cd is automatically ejected and i am prompted to press enter.
So far, so good. After i hit enter though, i get a large amount of various read errors and finally a segmentation fault. The system just hangs there :/.
I forcibly reboot the PS3, and then i am greeted with the pack of errors that are shown in the screenshot.
Fedora :: Boot Sequence Of 11 Using Lvm - Message - Press '1' To Enter Interactive Startup ?
Jun 15, 2010I've been fiddling about with vortexbox (the one before 1.4 I think), for a while. This is a music ripping and server rpm setup using Fedora 11 as the base.
As it was on a test machine, decided to try changing the logical volume sizes of LogVol00 and LogVol02 to fit a few more cd's on 02 before getting a new pc (just to see how it works).
Logged on and opened up the graphic version of lvm (using gnome). Then selected the LogVol02 logical volume, select edit, changed name to LogVol02-Storage, saved and logged out. Rebooted vortexbox since then its been unable to start properly (is this a kernel panic?).
Read up a lot on lvm on the net, have access to Fedora 11 disk 1, so logged on. Eventually managed (I thought to) to change LogVol02-Storage to LogVol02 using lvrename.
However, still refuses to boot completely.
The message it gives is as follows (sort of): Welcome to Fedora Press '1' to enter interactive startup
Setting up Logical Volume Management: 3 logical volume(s) in volume group 'VolGroup00' now active
*** An error occurred during file system check.
*** Droping you to a shell; the system will reboot when you leave the shell.
Give root password for maintenance (or type Control-D to continue):
Loving vortexbox appart from this. Will it be easier just to reinstall everything? If so, is there a way of listing all the changes I've done so I can reproduce (I'm thinking of just looking at all the commands I ran on the CLI).
Otherwise, is there a way of listing all of the commands I ran in terminal and piping them into a file so I can see what I need to do to rebuild after reinstalling?
