Fedora Installation :: Update - Unexpected Error And Could Not Continue
Apr 10, 2010
I just installed F12 lastnight and I went to run updates and the update manager said that there were unexpected errors and could not continue. I tried again today and same results. There are something like 321Mb of updates to run so...would be nice to get this machine updated.
when i try to update f12 it said there is and unexpected internal problem:
Code:
Error Type: <class 'yum.Errors.RepoError'> Error Value: Error getting repository data for installed, repository not found File : /usr/share/PackageKit/helpers/yum/yumBackend.py, line 3125, in <module>
I am running Debian squeeze and I am trying to install hplip-3.10.5 so I can use my new HP Photosmart C4750 printer.I downloaded the automatic installer and ran it and it gave me the following error message:
RE-CHECKING DEPENDENCIES ------------------------ error: A required dependency 'cups-image (CUPS image - CUPS image development files)' is still missing. error: Installation cannot continue without this dependency. error: Please manually install this dependency and re-run this installer.
So I ran apt-get install cups-image and got the following:
raygo75@RayGo1:~/Desktop$ sudo apt-get install cups-image Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done E: Couldn't find package cups-image
does the package "cups-image" exist? and if it does were can I find it. I have looked to no avail. I have posted a question on hplip seeing as that is were I got the script from.
when i am trying to install microsoft office2007 in my fedora14 through wine, after 75% progress installation stops and an error message appears. "installation stops due to an unexpected error" but in any way i want to install it on fedora14. its a 'do or die 'condition so anybody can give me informations.
I was upgrading from lenny to squeeze. At the apt-get dist-upgrade step, at some point (after upgrading and configuring) it tried to create a new certificate for my mail server but creation of the certificate failed, dpkg reported an error and the whole process exited with error. So I rebooted the machine and issued again apt-get dist-upgrade but now the certificate was created successfully . After that it upgraded mysql-client and the process finished.
But I don't know if configuring of the upgraded packages has stopped at the point where dpkg stopped. I suppose so, because very few packages were configured at that point. Is the solution to run dpkg-reconfingure -a (or -u ?) or dpkg --confingure -a or something else ? (dpkg has the PACKAGE STATES)
dpkg --configure --pending gives me no package for configuration.PS: At least I hope that all packages were upgraded and a few were not configured. Is there a way to confirm that all packages were upgraded ?
I am facing the following error while running the newly installed software ZEKR. I have already installed the latest version of Java.
java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: no pulse-java in java.library.path at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadLibrary(ClassLoader.java :1681) at java.lang.Runtime.loadLibrary0(Runtime.java:840)
I just upgraded from jaunty and somewhere in the process (or just after, I'm no longer sure just when it started) I started getting this error whenever I try to install or upgrade a package. Some of my software isn't working properly - some won't even load - so I'm not sure if the installations are actually succeeding, or not. But apt-get install -f shows nothing but a list of stuff I need to autoremove (mostly dev files). This particular message is the output of the details tab in synaptic, but I've gotten the same thing in terminal from apt-get. Quote:

After 2 months away from Fedora i am using it again, and used yum update to update stuff, everything was running fine, downloaded stuff, but 2 of the 666 stuff to install got error, here is:
1 Choose install to free space on HD where Lenny was the only other OS. No windows this unit.
2. Progressed through disk one and 2 and at end of 2 when no question was asked concerning MBR I knew I had lost dual boot.
3. Fedora booted and I thought the first thing I will do is contact forum and see if I can correct these shortcomings. No internet access in Fedora and that was due I am sure to a choice at setup I did not realize.
4. So I put gparted live CD in, deleted that partition, rebooted to a black screen with word grub flashing cursor and sorry I forgot the text.
5. Went back with gparted to look over the partition and all I could see was the boot flaf was gone (If I remember right that is not a necessity as long as there is /. But I went to flags checked it again rebooted same screen. Obviously Fedora did something to MBR?
6. Deleted Lenny, reinstalled and here I am so someone satisfy my curious nature.
Over the past two weeks my laptop has started locking up at random. I thought maybe it was a thermal issue, because I have an upgraded hard drive (put in 2 years ago) and once a month or so I might get a heat related lockup. I keep my fans running at high speed and the laptop elevated now and don't typically have an issue.
The freezing has started to become a daily occurrence now, and yesterday it locked up three times. I am able to move my mouse (unlike thermal lockups where everything goes down) but unable to click anything. The entire display freezes, and my cpu monitor doesn't continue to update.
I finally ssh'd into my laptop and was surprised to see it responding just fine. htop showed that my X-server was at 100%. When I killed it, X restarted automatically and promped me to log in. Everything is fine after this until the next lockup.
When I don't have access to ssh I have to hard-shutoff the laptop. That can't be good on this 5 year old macbook. I have done my system updates in the past two weeks that may have triggered this, but I don't remember anything specifically. I've tried all versions of my kernel that are installed but nothing, I have the intel video and have not had problems with it up until now.
2$ uname -a Linux macbook 2.6.32-30-generic #59-Ubuntu SMP Tue Mar 1 21:30:46 UTC 2011 x86_64 GNU/Linux 3$ lspci|grep VGA 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03)
Can anyone suggest something to try? I'm not sure how to go back to older versions of the the video drivers, but I'm not even sure if that is the issue. I did add the following to /etc/apt/sources.lst after the lockups started occuring:
Code: # X deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates/ubuntu lucid main #X-Updates PPA deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates/ubuntu lucid main #X-Updates PPA and did a full update, but this hasn't helped.
I'm trying to load the drivers that came with my wireless-n usb adapter. The file is rt2870.bin. I ran cmod a+x rt2870.bin command in terminal just fine. When I try to run sudo ./rt2879.bin I get an error message 1: Syntax error: word unexpected (expecting ")"). The .bin file came from the wireless adapter manufacturer. Am I missing something? Should the cmod be run under sudo as well? This device ran just fine before my router got funky. I finally got my 3 windoze boxes to connect, one using the same adapter as Ubuntu.
The following problem occurs to me, I'm creating a distribution (as a class project) for my school (I'm studying telecommunications and computer systems). I am following, in order to create the distribution, the manual that you can find on this page: [URL] But when I get to write:
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '@' in C:xampphtdocsminippromail.php on line 8 .......its not recognizing the '@' symbol. heres the code im working with
<?php $receiver = myfriend@ourmail.co.in; $subject = wish; $content = Hi! My dear friend how are you.; $sender = myself@ ourmail.co.in ; $headers = From: $sender; mail($receiver,$subject, $content,$headers); echo Mail has been sent successfully.; ?>
I am running a dual boot system with windows 7 and Ubuntu. Both have run smoothly on my machine (Core 2 quad core on Gigabyte board) I recently upgraded to 10.10 from 10.04 via the update manager within 10.04. Following the upgrade the initial boot failed at the login screen ( i simply got the purple colored screen with a white box in the center of it). Instead of trying to figure out what went wrong, I simply re-installed 10.10 from live CD on top of the upgraded Ubuntu that was failing at the login screen. The live CD install seemed to fix everything for the most part ( I did notice some quickly flashing text right before the login screen. I think it was an error message but it was too fast to read)
My problem now is that I am trying to remove some of my old kernels from the Grub2 boot screen and I cant. I have read many posts on how to remove the old kernels, but my system is proving to be difficult. The old kernels definitely show during boot, but whenever I go into Synaptic they are not there. I have downloaded Ubuntu Tweak, and they do not show in it either. I have read the information at [URL] I went to http://www.fixthecode.com/remove-hug...sts-in-ubuntu/ and thought this would fix my problem but I keep getting an error: "awk: 1: unexpected character 0xe2" when i try to run: "dpkg -l | grep ^ii | grep 2.6.3x-xx | awk -F{print $2} I am running kernel 2.6.35-22 The kernels i want to remove are 2.6.32-23 and 2.6.32-24.
Install d4x for fedora10,with rpm package, the tip is missing libssl.so.6.This file exist in openssl package. But the system has already installed newer libssl.so.7 in lib directory. For d4x is latest version,no version using libssl.so.7.(Perhaps it's this reason fedora 10 dose not provide d4x). Download a early version of openssl which include libssl.so.6,and release this file to lib directory. But the installation fail yet. If the lib is newer, the installation can not continue?(for can not degrade lib)
I got the following errors in spite of having both the packages installed. What can be done?

I have just installed Fedora on my laptop. I tried to install the updates but there is something wrong:

a little while ago the file from nv stopped being able to run.. I cant update the driver and now always get this error
4: warning: comparison between signed and unsigned integer expressions /tmp/selfgz2718/NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-260.19.12/kernel/nv.c: In function nv _kern_read_registry:
I am not having a lot of good fortune with Xfce, this time. The LiveCD had a kernal error, and after doing an install, the update chokes on dependency errors. I tried unchecking the problem update files, but then I ended up in a loop that I couldn't find what else was causing these problems. This doesn't seem to be a big problem listed in this forum, so how do I resolve this?
Today for strange reason, one of my Ubuntu 64 bit server Linux VM failed to start ? it stopped in the FSCK scan status with the error as attached. few days back I've added new hard disk successfully and format it as sdb5 without problem.
I have just assembled my computer and installed Fedora 13. After rebooting I get Error 25: Disk read error, Press any key to continue. When I do that the systems goes back to the GRUB window where I continue to press enter and it goes back to the error after a while.
