Ubuntu :: Using Two OS Simultaneously - "NTLDR MISSING PRESS CTRL+ALT+DEL TO RESTART"

Jun 25, 2011

I don't know what kind of problem it is. seems strange. I was used to using windows xp previously. Recently, i installed Ubuntu 11.04. i used ubuntu more than windows- rarely i peeped into windows. BUT, 3/4 days ago, when i tried to run xp, it only shows a message(on a black window/screen):

"NTLDR MISSING PRESS CTRL+ALT+DEL TO RESTART"

If i press ctrl+alt+del, it only restarts and if i again try to run xp, it shows the above message again; BUT windows xp doesn't run. i don't know what to do.

Fedora Installation :: 12 Windows Bootmanager - "BTMNGR Is Missing - Press Ctrl-Alt-Delete To Restart"

Feb 12, 2010

Though I kinda do wish that I could just fully migrate to Fedora (or Linux in general), I still do need Vista for some things (like, until I can get this mess with my tablet and speakers sorted out). However, when I tried to boot into Vista this morning (by selecting "other" in GRUB) it said "BTMNGR is missing. Press Ctrl-Alt-Delete to restart."

Will I have to use the Vista Home Premium installation disc to fix this? Surely, telling it to automatically fix startup problems would work, right? I'll try later today PS This problem could also be related to my other 'yum update' problems. All of my problems started when I performed a whole kernel update, so that could also be why I can't boot into vista.

Ubuntu :: NTLDR Is Missing - Critical Temperature ?

Jul 11, 2011

I recently installed Ubuntu and wanted to remove the Windows XP installation is was dual booted with (I used Wubi to install Ubuntu), but I ended up just editing boot.ini to remove it from the boot menu and automatically boot in to Ubuntu. But then, Ubuntu started playing up and keeps on popping up with the Critical Temperature warning, saying it's 80-100C although it's the first time it's been turned on in 14 hours... But to add to my confusion, when I try to boot from ANY disk, it comes up with "NTLDR is missing" and a restart message.

Ubuntu :: 11.04 Install From LiveCD - NTLDR Missing?

Jul 29, 2011

I am trying to install ubuntu 11.04 from a live cd on a recently formatted 80gb hard drive. Ubuntu seemed to hang and become unresponsive after waits exceeding 40 minutes. As I had some difficulty creating the media, burning the iso to disc, I attempted to install a couple other distros, mint and xubuntu, to see if they worked. These displayed the NTLDR missing message and prompted me to restart.

PC: pentium 4 2.93 ghz processor
80 gb hd
512mb RAM
lite on dvd/cd burner

There is a working 150gb hd with xp on it set as the #2 hd in bios. I would like to install a linux-based os on the smaller drive, preferably ubuntu, but am growing a little impatient. Is there a bootloader or anything I will need to install, and what should be the final configuration of the two hard drives once I get another os installed on the hd dedicated to it?

Ubuntu :: Dual Boot With Xp Prob: Ntldr Is Missing?

Aug 8, 2010

I got this message today after cleaning out the inside of my computer. Didn't really mess with anything. Booted into Windows XP just fine, had to restart for an update. Burg loaded, I selected Windows and I get:

"NTLDR is missing. Press CTRL-ALT-DEL to restart." WTF? Windows breaks itself. Great. My ubuntu install works just fine. I have 2 separate hard drives, with one OS on each. I can't access the other drive from ubuntu. It says

Unable to mount location Error mounting: mount exited with exit code 13: Index entry out of bounds in directory inode 5. Failed to mount '/dev/sda1': Input/output error NTFS is either inconsistent, or there is a hardware fault, or it's a SoftRAID/FakeRAID hardware. In the first case run chkdsk /f on Windows then reboot into Windows twice. The usage of the /f parameter is very important! If the device is a SoftRAID/FakeRAID then first activate it and mount a different device under the /dev/mapper/ directory, (e.g. /dev/mapper/nvidia_eahaabcc1). Please see the 'dmraid' documentation for more details.

I installed the ubuntu 9.10 with unetbootin on the external HD. When I boot from the HD I get the error: NTLDR is Missing. Is it possible to install of load the ubuntu 9.10 version on a external HD. I found some stuff about

- using another USB stick with the live version and install from that USB to the external HD.

- using the live cd to install. But I don't have a CD drive on the machine.

General :: Error: Bootmgr Is Compressed, Press Ctrl+Alt+Del To Continue

Jul 2, 2010

Here's my problem: While choosing to compress certain folders from within Windows 7, I marked the boot manager as 'compressed'. Now, when I try to boot, I'm not able to boot into Windows 7, or any other OS (I get an error: bootmgr is compressed, press Ctrl+Alt+Del to continue, which restarts the system and the same cycle continues.

I have a Windows 7 + open SUSE + Ubuntu 10.04 LTS wubi install boot setup. To complicate things, its a laptop, and the DVD drive is conked. Is there any way I can boot into any of my OS's? If not using a live boot, can I, perhaps make a bootable USB flash drive, boot into it and uncompress the boot manager ? Note: I'm typing this from another desktop, and I do not have Windows installed on this.

Ubuntu Servers :: Disabled Press CONTROL-X To Restart Shell

Apr 30, 2010

I'm setting up an Ubuntu server and I keep getting strange problems with my editor.I'm not sure if this is because my keyboard configuration is wrong or I screwed up the installation but regardless it's quite frustrating.

When using the movement keys (arrows and numpad) I get "[" brackets and "C"s, if I hold down or push down on the key hard a list of errors and text comes up, usually involving something that says something like:"Mount disabled" or "____ disabled press CONTROL-X to restart the shell"Similair problems are also found in vi (when in insert mode).I have been plagued with text editor problems and have need several reboots just to get out of a file, often because it just flat out stopped responding to keyboard commands.

Ubuntu :: Force Restart On CTRL+ALT+DEL?

Jan 2, 2011

I've hired a dedicated Ubuntu10.10 Server on a remote colocation. I needed a GUI to be able to hook into my KVM guests, so I installed xubuntu-desktop.

My dedicated server provider provides me very useful free service. I can request a CTRL+ALT+DEL to my server through their web based server control panel, and I can boot into a live image from their network. This is vital for me to be able fix back configuration problems.

However after I have installed xubuntu-desktop (XFCE I believe), the CTRL+ALT+DEL no longer reboots the machine.

I've been struggling with this simple issue for quite a few days, I simply can't get it to work.

I've tried setting it through XCFE 4 Settings Manager. It does not work. From my understanding any keyboard shortcuts defined here are specific to user, so I think they'll not work when the server is in login screen (no user logged in).

I've tried to put control-alt-delete.conf files in /etc/init and /etc/init/d , neither seems to trigger reboot.
