Mar 17, 2011Alternative to Internet Download Manager (IDM) to download movies from any website.Ok, so one of the cool things about IDM was that i was able to download movies from ..... and other sites that have video clips on their site, but now that i have switch all my computers over to ubuntu linux, i now need an alternative to this problem because IDM will not work with the firefox on ubuntu linux.So my question is, do you guys know of an alternative software for downloading movies from any site such as ..... and other sites?

Jan 31, 2011Torrents work fine on all other machines including on a VM within the affected laptop.
No matter what client I use, nothing ever downloads. For example, right now Transmission says "Downloading from 0 of 0 connected peers - Idle" while WinXP in a virtual machine is downloading at 500 kb/s.
Like I said, it's only one this laptop, with all clients, and it works on a VM.

I wonder whether I could set up a mirror for certain files like Linux ISO images, conference talk recordings and other stuff.How could I seed automatically all torrents from XML feeds plus torrents added by hand? Further conditions: The data files should be accessable via HTTP/FTP, too total traffic and bandwidth uage need to be restricted, plus bonus points for restrictions per feed or file.

Jan 29, 2011Using Ubuntu 9.04 on a Gateway laptop, I have it plugged in via VGA port on my laptop to my TV, and when I play a movie using Totem or VLC, I can see the movie on the laptop but there is just a black window on the TV in the movie player window. My Desktop appears fine and I can use my TV like a monitor in that respect, but I can't watch any movies.

May 28, 2011I can play many of my DVD movies in linux but there are some DVDs that won't play and the Available Devices notifier doesn't show up when I load these DVDs.
The DVDs that won't play in linux works fine in windows and my tabletop dvd player.
I do have libdvdcss2, libdvdread4 and other modules to play both encrypted and non-encrypted DVDs.
Like I said, I can play many of my dvd movies in linux with only a few that don't. Has anyone experience this situation in linux with some of your own DVD movies?

Mar 15, 2010First I go to the following URL to download the latest version of VLC Player, which I greatly prefer to Totem or any other standard Linux video/audio player: http://www.fileguru.com/Movie-Player/download. After I click on the "Download" link, a new window appears which asks me if I want to 1) Open with Archive Manager (default) or 2) Save File. There is a drop down arrow next to the first choice which only gives "Other..." as the only other choice. Well, if I choose the first option, the download appears as an .exe file in the "Downloads" window.
A window with "Download Error" in its Title Bar appears with the following message in it: "/tmp/VLC_Player_Setup-3.exe could not be opened, because the associated helper application does not exist. Change the association in your preferences." I don't even know yet how to even open up an .exe file in Linux, despite repeated research.

I went to the php page and clicked on the link, but all I got was a file that's only 26.3 KB. Feb 2, 2011I've just setup a virtual Ubuntu 10.10 machine on my server running Deluge and WebUI. The WebUI seems to work fine, but if I upload a torrent with a total size over 2Gb I just get an 'error' as soon as the torrent is run.The download folder is a CIFS share to a NAS (Acer Altos EasyStore) folder, I can download torrents that are less than 2Gb in total without any problems.I can read/write large files from the command line or Nautilus but any torrent uploaded to Deluge larger than 2Gb is flagged as 'error' as soon as it is run (with no actual error listed in the torrent details).

It usually happens whenever it get's above a 2mbps download speed. In windows, however, I can get up to 20mbps and my computer won't even lag... let alone crash.

I have watch directories set up and all the torrents picked up from the watch directory will automatically resume after a few seconds if I try to pause them. This is not a problem with manually added torrents. Everybody that uses rtorrent uses watch directories why should mine be a problem?

Apr 3, 2011I usually add torrents to transmission through my iPhone. I have Transmission watch the 'Attachments' folder in my Dropbox. I also have Transmission auto add the torrent and delete the torrent file when done. Thing is if I don't have Transmission running when I add the torrent to my dropbox folder. Transmission doesn't start up to download the torrent. Is there a script that can watch for torrent files in my Dropbox folder that I can run in Scheduled Tasks to run every 5 min or so. Also when I have it up and running and I do have auto add on. It auto adds it to transmission but then the popup dialog appears to ask if I just want to download one of the files from the torrent or all 10. Is there a way to bypass this?
