How to repartition a hard drive using Mepis 3.3, none of the listed sites will open to me. Is this the best software to repartition a new Windows 7 hard drive? I notice there are later versions of the Mepis software.
View 10 RepliesFirst I go to the following URL to download the latest version of VLC Player, which I greatly prefer to Totem or any other standard Linux video/audio player: http://www.fileguru.com/Movie-Player/download. After I click on the "Download" link, a new window appears which asks me if I want to 1) Open with Archive Manager (default) or 2) Save File. There is a drop down arrow next to the first choice which only gives "Other..." as the only other choice. Well, if I choose the first option, the download appears as an .exe file in the "Downloads" window.
A window with "Download Error" in its Title Bar appears with the following message in it: "/tmp/VLC_Player_Setup-3.exe could not be opened, because the associated helper application does not exist. Change the association in your preferences." I don't even know yet how to even open up an .exe file in Linux, despite repeated research.
I am using two operating systems, Ubuntu and Mandriva, problem I can not download the updates from the main sites. On Ubuntu I changed the mirror site and worked fine. [URL]. I have already posted two sites already about this. How can the main mirror update site on Mandriva been changed.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have just installed fedora 14 for 2 weeks. After installing the Tetom plugin I can't download video and Mp3 files from my desired sites. When I enter to those sites a Plug-in (which I'm not sure that is it related to Tetom or not) starts and tries to play that video or MP3. But before installing that pliging I didn't have this problem and when I press on download link, It opened a pop-up window and asked for downloading and saving location. However I unistalled that pluging but my problem doesn't solve. I attached two pictures. The first picture shows a page which when I'm going to download a movei it goes to a "Code Page" and I can not download !! and the second one shows when I'm trying to download a Mp3 file. As you can see in the second picture there is a new Icon at the left hand of Greasemonkey Icon which i think problem is with that one !

I originally tried using a torrent download to try and get a DVD ISO image. When I tried to copy the image to a DVD, my software said something about the file not being supported and the file vanished from the download location.
So now I have tried looking for just an ISO file instead of a torrent file and when I try to download it my browser just hangs, I get the "Save" or "Open" option and choose "Save", nothing happens. The option window blanks out.
So how do I download a DVD ISO image for CentOS 5?

Have only been using Mint 11 for 3 days after 7 years with windows and the usual safety nets there were the https headings and firewalls blocking stuff but how do you know something is safe in Linux ?

View 3 Replies View RelatedRunning latest Ubuntu; dual boot with Vista - Ubuntu is the default. Acer laptop, twin core 2500 CPU, 3 gig ram, 500gb HD. It came with that HDD partitioned into 2 x 250gb (approx) Running Vista.
I would like to re-install to eliminate all my mistakes. I would also like to give Linux a major size partition. But unable to download G Parted (times out after running happily for 20 or so mgb - it just stops. Tried at least 3 times - twice under Ubuntu and once via Vista.
I have recently purchased a Toshiba satellite pro C650 laptop. I have installed Ubuntu 10.04 via Wubi which has installed ok and boots fine but it fails to recognise my Wifi card or network so I am unable to download any drivers. It also sees my dvd rom drive but not any usb ports or other hardware. I have searched the Toshiba site but cannot find a fix on any of the Linux forums there.

What I'm looking for is a solution or a pointer in the right direction to setup on our local Ubuntu server a sort of cache. Each day each Ubuntu on the network, checks for updates and downloads, and installs. What I'm looking for is a way for one machine to download the update and then the others to download from the local resource.

"E: Could not get lock /var/cache/apt/archives/lock - open (11: Resource temporarily unavailable)
E: Unable to lock the download directory"
