View 4 Replies View RelatedI've run into some problems while trying to install iTunes onto my system (Ubuntu 10.10) using Wine. I've installed Wine and configured everything properly, and then I download iTunes. I've tried downloading several versions, including 7.2 (older version) and the newest version (iTunes 10). However, when I try to open this downloaded file, I get the message:

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm looking for the best iTunes alternative that has almost these features:
- being able to edit the track's name/album (songs in the iPod)
- adjusting volume of tracks
I'm currently using Rhythmbox. I have tried Exaile and Amarok just doesn't work for me. I can't recall what made me turn away from Banshee, too. I'm not really into Wine so installing iTunes itself is not viable.
I have ubuntu on my laptop, i haven't updated it to 10.4 yet but i've only had it on here for a couple weeks. Anyways, i plugged my ipod into the computer and had it working with rhythmbox just fine. However, when i unplugged my ipod, i looked at it and there are no songs, absolutely nothing. When i plug it back in, it shows on rhythmbox that i have all my songs back...but the second i take it out there are no songs. I don't know what this problem is, but basically i just want itunes back :[ I guess theres something about getting a virtual machine to be able to run itunes with? that sounds nice...but is it super complicated?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just got a new iphone (yay me) but later realised that as I have Ubuntu, it is very difficult to get itunes installed on it.
Having said that, I've got Wine installed and attempted to download itunes 7.something and even though the whole process worked, it appears that when I try to access itunes the whole screen goes black and then if I scroll across the screen with my mouse it lights up various bits of what's behind the black screen and then after a while it tells me that it cannot access itunes at all...
So I thought, perhaps I should uninstall itunes, but in doing that it still appeared in my wine folder, so I uninstalled wine, which still appeared in my Applications list, so I edited my applications list and then tried to re-install wine from scratch (I know I sound dumb already - but I was desperate ok!!!). So now wine is installed on my computer somewhere but it now doesn't show up in my Applications list at all and I can't seem to get it back on there - any suggestions there would also help...
But my main objective is to try and uninstall itunes properly (maybe from the terminal window - but I don't know how to even do that) and attempt to re-install it to see if it works again.
I need to do this in order to sync my iphone. Cannot seem to do it with Amarok as I don't have Installer.Apps on my iphone, and cannot get THAT without syncing it with itunes to begin with....
I am wondering because I might just get rid of windows on my main pc and I want to know if there is so I can still get songs on my ipod.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI was using the gnome-shell for a little bit to get accustomed to the coming change in march but I removed it. Shortly after, I decided to update my wine, and get the lastest itunes.exe. I save the exe, allowed executing permissions and ran the install. IT WORKED. I did not allow it to be my default player, and I did not allow autorun. whenever i open it says installation error but I hit ok and I am graced with itunes. I still can sync my iphone with it, I guess it can't recognize it.
occasional crashes when I get click happy but playback works most of the time. some times i have to logout in order to try it again. authorized itunes purchases work thru it.
What in your opinions are the best iTunes alternatives?
I plan on getting an iPod touch soon, and need to be able to...
-Change settings (maybe)
-Sync Music
-Sync Games (IMPORTANT)
-Sync Movies
-Be able to categorize videos into TV shows or movies and by season.
If there isnt something that cant do all of that, getting itunes 10 to work on Wine/PlayonLinux, Because it installs, but just looks very messed up when I open it.
My friend has her laptop plugged in to her TV and it works well, except Movie Player and VLC's video display windows are black. The Desktop display is fine on the TV and I can see the movie on the laptop, but on the TV it is just a black window on the Desktop. Using 9.04 with an ATI200M graphics card.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a new 16GB nano ipod, and I "initialized" it in Rhythmbox. I added about 6GB of music into it (via Rhythmbox). When I eject and disconnect the ipod, it tells me that 6GB are occupied, but the music directory says that it's empty. Does the ipod need to be "initialized" in itunes? I have another ipod that was first used in itunes and it never gave me any issues with Rhythmbox.I have two machines running Ubuntu 9.10. I can't get itunes working with wine, and I don't have a mac or a windows machine.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI downloaded iTunes and am successfully running it though Wine. However, whenever I try to "Authorize Computer" or go to the iTunes store, iTunes won't connect to my network. I know it is not a network issue because I can surf Chrome at the same time iTunes says it can't connect. Is this fixable or is it not possible to "Authorize Computer"?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI cant seem to get iTunes to work no matter what I try, I installed WINE and various versions of iTunes, depending on what the guide that im following tells me to do. I usually get most of the way through and then something that i'm suppose to put into the terminal doesn't work. Itunes sometimes freezes the computer when i try and use it, and sometimes it gets to the point where it says something about not being able to work because qucktime wont work and i have to reinstall itunes, which i try to do, which does nothing.
I have a computer with a 64 bit processor, and an ipod touch. I am willing to go to whichever version of Ubuntu that works best with whichever version of itunes, i don't have anything important saved so going to a different version of the OS isn't a big deal. I have to have itunes because I have to back up my music onto something.
So, which version of Ubuntu is best with itunes (i have ubuntu 9.10) and has anyone used a guide that is proven to work recently? If their easer method of getting my music onto my computer, im open to that as well.
I got the XP 32 bit newest version of iTunes from the iTunes website. I got the newest version of Wine from the Ubuntu Software Center. I have a fresh install of Ubuntu 10.10
So when I install iTunes it seems to work because it goes through the whole install process. But when I click the iTunes icon to launch it I Get a little box with this error message:
Apple Application Support was not found
Apple Application Support is required to run iTunes. Please uninstall iTunes, then install iTunes again.
Error 2 (Windows error 2)
So what can I do to fix this? I already uninstalled then re installed iTunes like the message says to do but I still keep getting the same error.
I tried using wine 1.2 and itunes 10 which worked half way and version 7.2 did not respond correctly. I am running 10.10 version. I need to be able to snyc with my applications using a itouch 3g. Is there any software out there ?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI can't get my sisters Ubuntu to play some movies off DVD. I google searched for how to play dvds on ubuntu, and a site says basically "just install Totem" and the dvdlib3 (it already has dvdlib4 installed) so I went ahead and installed totem.I launched totem, but there is no option for opening a DVD, there's only Open File. which would mean I'd have to open the vob files, which are very confusing to navigate.
I tried VLC and VLC couldn't run it, so I tried VLC(Windows32 under Wine) and although it worked in the past, it couldn't read the movie either(the movie is Casino Royale and I watched it just fine on my Windows machineis there an easy method to just install some proprietary software that can play movies with a single click? like with the package manager perhaps? I couldn't figure anything out. It seems like Ubuntu should come pre-ready for DVDs and I don't understand why it isn't.
im wondering if this is possible. I have downloaded every gstreamer plugin possible and they still dont play.im running ubuntu 9.10
View 5 Replies View RelatedJust installed Ubuntu 9.10 and fully updated .I tried to install itunes through wine and as you can guess it didn't work .What are my alternatives and will they still allow me to add and remove music form my I-pod because I'd rather not have to boot into my winblows partition just to update my music seeing as I've enough of winblows
View 2 Replies View RelatedThis isn't really an Ubuntu-specific question, I suppose, but I'd like to take the music (or at least the un-DRMed bits) out of my iTunes library and put them in RhythmBox on Ubuntu Lucid, and I'd like to do the same with my iPhoto library and possibly F-Spot, though I haven't decided. The potential pitfall is I don't think iPhoto or iTunes actually stores the information about each photo and music track in the file itself, but in an XML file somewhere else in the folder Are there utilities that can translate the iTunes and iPhoto libraries into something that I might be able to import into another program?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just found out about this tool this morning. I was having trouble accessing a podcast that required iTunes to be installed on your computer, probably to access iTunes store. I did a Google search and found Feed Flipper. It takes the podcast URL and "flips" it into an XML RSS feed. I was able to add the link from that conversion into Rhythmbox and it worked. Just thought I'd share if anybody was having a similar issue.

He recently set up an iTunes music server over the local network with lots of music and all the Mac users in the lab are now happily listening to the streams from their laptops. I tried to look around but I can only find howtos to create an iTunes-compatible server on Ubuntu, while I simply want to know what should I do in order to connect to an iTunes music server from my Ubuntu machine.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI fully intend to use Ubuntu One, Amazon, or another music store to purchase music from now on, but the problem is that I still have $11+ in my iTunes account and I don't feel like letting it go to waste. So my question is, is there any way I can use the iTunes Store on Ubuntu? I looked at PyMusique, but it no longer works with iTunes, as well as many other things. Would it be possible to install an older version of iTunes that worked with WINE and use the store from there?
View 4 Replies View RelatedAfter upgrading from Ubuntu 9.10 to 10.04 (yes I'm a bit slow on the update), Amarok no longer displays or plays my itunes collection.
the Itunes collection is on a separate drive in a dual boot configuration (Win XP Pro). Drive is mounted and I can navigate to the music directory in the file browser. Also Amarok can see the directory when I try to rescan my collection.
When I rescan the collection - drilling down to the correct directory - amarok appears to be scanning the diretory. However when it is complete, the collection header (in the local music view) shows the music share with a track count, but the sub directories (album, artist, etc.) is empty.
I have removed and re-installed Amarok, and cleaned up the itunes directory - no change in the behavior.
Amarok reliably played the itunes collection in previous ubuntu distros (9.01, 9.04, 8.10, etc...).
What do I need to do to get the collection visible?
