Debian :: How To Mount And Start (live) ISO From HD

Nov 16, 2015

I did try

Code: Select allmenuentry "Debian live 8.2.0 KDE" {
    insmod loopback
    insmod iso9660
    set isofile="/debian-live-8.2.0-i386-kde-desktop.iso"
#recherche de la partition dans laquelle se trouve le fichier ISO et montage de celle ci dans "/"
    search -sf $isofile

[Code] ....

in /boot/grub/grub.cfg without success...

it goes with Ubuntu, Mint, Vinux, Trisquel (all last Ubuntu like ISOs at distrowatch) interchanging "live" through "casper" (3 time above).

what is the adequate Debian method?

OpenSUSE Network :: Networking With A Fresh Installation - Nm-applet Didn't Start

May 3, 2011

I installed openSUSE today using a network installer cd, opting for the Xfce environment. Everything went smooth with the installer, but I have some issues with the network. After the fresh install, nm-applet did not start. I got the following error:

Code:
nm-applet
** Message: applet now removed from the notification area
** Message: applet now embedded in the notification area
** (nm-applet:14981): WARNING **: Fallback icon 'gtk-dialog-error' missing: (0) Icon 'gtk-dialog-error' not present in theme
**
ERROR:applet.c:2800:nma_icons_reload: assertion failed: (applet->fallback_icon) Aborted I don't know if the problem was with the applet or with the daemon. Fortunately I used Archlinux for a quite long time and I know how to connect to WPA2 encrypted wireless network from command line, so I was able to connect to the internet and do an upgrade - everything went just smooth and fine again.

After the update and restart, I found the nm-applet icon in the system tray. And here comes the second problem: I can connect with the nm-applet, but the connection does lasts only for about 10 seconds. So practically I can't use the net this way either. Ok, no problem, I fired up Yast, disabled the networkmanager and choose to start my network with the traditional method. I entered the required stuff from my wireless card ( ESSID and passwd ), set to activate at boot time and reboot.....

General :: How To Get Live CD To Start After Booting From Floppy Disk

Nov 18, 2010

I'm an experienced Linux developer who has run into a little problem. I'm using a National Instruments 8170 chassis, among the normal ports, it has a FDD and USB port but this model does not allow booting from a USB CDROM ( I tried a BIOS update, that didn't help either ). I made this cool customized 550MB FC8 LiveCD wtih X, GCC, various apps, etc. and a kernel 2.6.30 & 2.6.18 boot floppy disk with all the needed drivers. The floppy boots to a shell with all the busybox utils, etc. and detects the USB CDROM media and all its files.

My Question is: How do I get the kernel and initrd on the Live CD to start or boot after booting from the Floppy disk ?, I mean, I want to load linux again but this time from the CD after booting linux from floppy, if that makes sense. I'm just using the floppy to boot and recognize the USB CDROM. This can be done with MSDOS and loadlin but loadlin has an issue(it hangs) with the newer kernels (2.6.18 and greater). I searched for the loadlin source code to port it to linux but was unable to find it on the net.

Debian :: Installation Didn't Include Neither 'make' Nor ' Gcc?

Mar 12, 2011

I just installed Debian, after having some experience as a Ubuntu and Mint user. I'm not sure if this is normal, but my installation didn't include neither 'make' nor ' gcc', which I thought were very basic programs. They where in the cd though, I installed them through apt. I realized that they weren't there when I tried to install the drivers for a D Link DWA 525 wireless card. I was able to install the drivers on Ubuntu, but I can't do it on Debian. When I try to 'make' it, there is an error. I don't recall the exact error (since I have to reboot back and forth in order to get internet access, I won't post it right now).

Now I have a nice looking Debian system but very simple with a lot of necessary packages or whatever missing (I don't even have the update manager). Debian :: Didn't Work With The Default Wireless Drivers

Jul 20, 2010

I have gotten Debian working quite well on my Sony Vaio laptop for the past 6 months or so, and it's a very rewarding experience. I however have a small amount of problems that I could not find the answer to through googling or reading Debian instructions.

1) I have an Atheros-based wireless chipset in my laptop that didn't work with the default wireless drivers in Debian. So I replaced them with madwifi drivers and it works great now. However, every time I restart the computer, it defaults back to 1mb/s wireless speed; making me go into root terminal and change the speed with "iwconfig ath0 rate 54M". Obviously this gets a little bit annoying to enter every time, so I am looking for a way to make it automatic. I have looked on Google and gotten some hits but none of them have been successful.

2) Whenever I put the computer on stand-by then return, the wifi refuses to connect. Networkmanager tries to connect then crashes. I have found no hits on this issue with my configuration. Very odd.

Debian :: Didn't List Ubuntu Or Windows 7 Installation

Feb 28, 2011

I just installed Debian and when it was almost done it asked me something about GRUB installtation. It said the only loader in the main boot loader file or something was Vista but I don't even have vista installed on my laptop. It didnt list my Ubuntu or Windows 7 installation so I picked to set the boot location (or whatever) manually to (hd0,2) .. just to be save. Now when starting up the computer it only gives me Ubuntu and Windows 7 as options. Ubuntu starts but when I try to start Windows 7 it gets stuck at the 'starting windows' logo. Another thing I wasn't sure about in the installation was the format of the partition.. I just picked Ext4 (I read somewhere it was good ).

I installed the thing on an empty Logical partition (not primary.. couldn't figure out how to do that without formatting my disks). I wish to get my W7 back up and the Debian to show up in my boot list.. Right now I can only access my Ubuntu so you'll have to guide me through here

Ubuntu :: Lubuntu Live Cd Won't Start Into The Gui?

I bought a magazine because it said it had lubuntu on its disk. <i popped it into a computer(laptop) to try it, but lubuntu for some reason only goes into the first shell. It will switch o the othr shells, but the desktop one stays blank(or rather black)Xubuntu and the other buntus on the cd however work allright in their live mode, and fedora from another live cd that was on the magazine also works fine(in fact I am using it right now)why lubuntu isnt working but the other ones are? could it be a manufacturing fault or are there underlying issues?

00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation Mobile PM965/GM965/GL960 Memory Controller Hub (rev 0c)
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 0c)
00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 0c)

well I see that it works with my normal computer so it probably isnt a cd error, but rather it seems to be a gnome load issue? But why wouldnt it load when the other buntus have no problem loading it?

Fedora Installation :: Install And Live Do Not Even Start

Jul 18, 2009

So lets start with my laptop. I am currently running windows vista 64-bit and I usually experiment with linux on a virtual machine but I decided to try and put it on as a dual boot os. I have x3 320gb hdd (7200rpm) on raid5, x2 1gb nvidia gtx go running sli, 8gb ram, 2.8ghz core2 quad, and random other things that aren't important. Point is that my system should run anything I throw at it.

So I downloaded Fedora 11 from a torrent and burned the iso to a disk. When I run it, it pretends its going to run it, it comes up with a log and loads stuff and all. But then it just hangs.. it doesn't do anything, no live starts, no nothing. Its just a blank screen with a blinking underscore in the top left "_" so I type and my typing shows up and thats it. Any other time I've used Linux I've never had to put in a command or anything to start, so I don't know what the problem is.
