how to install alsa drivers along with Asus xonar dgx sound card. I followed these instructions. URL....And until "Setting up modprobe and kmod support" instructions were clear. I should put something in /etc/modules, but I dont down exactly what.

I have a TV tuner card with its output connected to the CD in of an integrated sound card. Video is OK, and the sound also gets thorough (to the line out) when running xawtv, for example. However, I found no ways yet for recording it.I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 with ALSA drivers. Pulseaudio was running in the beginning, now it doesn't, but it doesn't seem to make much difference.
capturing with VLC, using plughw:0,0 as the audio capture device. (Result: no sound track at all in the resulting video.)arecord, then aplay.alsamixer. The capture source is set to "CD" (and on the input side it's also "CD" where I can effectively modify the volume for audio going through...), but still no result.
I don't have any sound after installing Linuxant ALSA driver. I tried uninstalling it and the hsf driver, didn't help. Reinstalling ALSA didn't help either. Ubuntu doesn't detect my sound card, and aplay doesn't detect my sound card. lspci -v output for sound card:

Months ago, I tried to get my notebook's internal modem working, by installing alsa-driver-linuxant-1.0.23.1-1.noarch.rpm and hsfmodem-7.80.02.06x86_64full-1.x86_64.rpm, both from Linuxant. This did not work, but my system was stable and the sound device (Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 03)) worked fine.In the last few days, I upgraded to the latest kernel 2.6.35.12-88.fc14.x86_64. Boot failed due to an inability to build the alsa-driver-linuxant against the kernel source (I have the kernel source in /usr/src/kernels/2.6.35.12-88.fc14.x86_64/). The message in boot.log was:

I have a Logitech Quickcam Pro 4000 webcam which is supposed to work OK with Linux. I use Open SUSE 11.0 and under gqcam I have multiple images. And in black & white. View 1 Replies View RelatedI am using a couple of Debian Distro (Sid and Lenny) add some Ubuntu into the mix. I made the switch because I was amazed and satisfied with Debian --> once installed, everything works. For me that's okay for o so many years now. I don't question a lot because it just works and I do my job on it satisfactorily. Namely programming the LAMP style programming. Lately I have been using Debian to communicate over the internet -- using Skype and Pidgin and other such things, not to mention listening to music, watching movies, just using the default applications when I originally install Debian.
Along the way, I need to configure something -- that is desktop related -- like the screen resolution of a new LCD monitor replacing the old one and such. Now about my sound -- I'm not touching it because it is working. But that is not the case always. Now I have a constant error -- it is irritating. Rhythmbox don't make a sound always when I have open a web browser (iceweasel, chrome, epiphany) and a site with multimedia object on it -- like a video or something. So how do I correct this? How do I know, too what I am using -- ALSA or Pulseaudio?
So I've got a new system on which I had to re-install Debian, and I've been trying to fix the sound today, but it doesn't seem to work... I've kept the same ALSA configuration (except a minor adjustment to the card number as this system appears to have two cards instead of one), but it doesn't seem to work as expected. I got this weird error while running an app that uses ALSA:

what I did was searched a solution on google and i read something about install alsa-driver. So I downloaded it and tried to install it (took a very long time) and didn't installed (errormsg). When I looked a little further i saw my microphone was muted in the audio settings (DOH !)but now everytime i do an apt-get i get this error message from alsa-driver that want to setup

Alsa is currently using my HDMI port to play sounds through using card0 "ATI R6xx HDMI". I'm on a laptop and I want to be able to use my laptop speakers and headphone jack so how do I set alsa to use card1 which is "Conexant CX20582"?
View 8 Replies View RelatedIn the process of trying to get the softmodem working, I finally attached speakers to this laptop and tried to play some sounds. Nothing but silence. Both the KDE system sounds and a stand-alone player (noatun) produce nothing. No error messages that I can find, either. (That might explain why the softmodem is dead, too...) I've run alsaconf several times, and even uninstalled and reinstalled ALSA. It thinks it is working, but is not. What sorts of things do I need to check to find where it isn't working?
Info: The motherboard is a FIC 3500W with the VIA P4M800 integrated chipset. This includes the VIA 8237 sound system, which is what ALSA detects and tries to use. The machine also has a Realtek ALC655 but I don't see any drivers for that in the lsmod output, so this is a possible source of the trouble.
I decided to break free from the horrible life of a windows vista user. I like my new debian (Wheezy) installation and everything worked fine so far. Now I stumbled upon a huge problem. When I want startup and login into my gnome installation the first application I open gets to play sound and others after that just don't work. I looked endlessly on google but in my understanding the problem is within the ALSA driver.

I've got a Leadtek TV2000 Expert tuner and it was connected with my soundcard on motherboard succesfully. Before many years it worked percectly with my early Ubuntu version 7.04 and 8.04 - that used the AUX for soundlevels in the alsamixer. In TVTIME I've get all my TV-channels but without sound...
Always when I run tvtime it sends me:

I know sound is a recurring issue around here, but I can't find any posts/FAQs that address my particular problem.
Here it goes: When I first installed ALSA, I unsurprisingly had no sound. OK, no big deal, I'll just un-install and re-install ALSA and see if that helps. No, instead ALSA won't even recognize my card.

since upgrading my desktop I've had trouble getting my old sound blaster audigy working. I've disabled the motherboard's on board sound in the bios. My new desktop is built around the Intel i7-2600K. I have a suspicion that maybe linux isn't playing nice with the pci-e to pci bridge that has replaced native pci support but I have no evidence of this. The sound card works fine in windows. Whenever I try to run a windows game under Wine I get an error that depict I have no proper sound driver. I checked the wine config and there was only OSS option that I think it would not help me to get sound working. I think I have to use Alsa Instead but I don't know how to add Alsa support to wine. By the way in need DirectSound as well. should i download it myself and add it to system32 or there is a better way?

I have also posted this as a question in ubuntu launchpad but I figure I have more of a chance coming across a solution this way- as I had been struggling with no sound issue (and other issues for so long now!) I first had alsa driver version that came with this 2.6.32-25 preempt kernel: ALSA driver 1.0.22, I believe. My maudio soundcard was detected but I couldn't get sound so I found a suggestion in ubuntu forum to install lucid backports. This created 2.6.32-25 generic kernel which I didn't want since I need low latency (and still had no sound). I tried at first to compile and install Alsa driver 1.0.23 (following Ubuntu Sound Troubleshooting Guide), having booted into the preempt kernel- but ALSA driver 1.0.23 only installed into the generic backport kernel. So I proceeded to remove the 2.6.32-25 backport generic kernel via synaptic.
I once again only have my original preempt kernel 2.6.32.25 and 2.6.32.21 in my grub list. I discovered that I had no soundcard detected and no more ALSA installed, according to 'aplay -l' & 'cat /proc/asound/version' 'cat: /proc/asound/version: No such file or directory' so I proceeded to try to install Alsa driver 1.0.23 twice more but each time I get:

Gnome volume control shows that HDA Intel(Alsa mixer) is selected and as a default the speaker is muted, if I unmute it, an infinite loop-like sound plays and no application seems to have access to the sound, I believe the correct module is installed by default, and the webcam does not work as well. I'm using debian squeeze i386.

I recently changed from Gentoo to Debian Squeeze. All went fine but I have an ALSA issue. I have an AMD Athlon II X4 board with a Nvidia (Realtek) sound chip. After installing I got a lot of "no such device" errors, so I installed the Realtek driver the Debian way and the errors vanished. I could successful run alsactl init and alsamixer.
At this point there is no sound neither in games nor system. alsaplay says (on the screen) that it is playing a wav file but there is no sound. My test ''dd if=/dev/urandom of=/dev/dsp'' complains "/dev/dsp : no such file or directory". Well, all clear. modprobing the snd-*-oss modules brings sound alive but I have to do this after every restart. I have no clue how to make this persistent the Debian way.
I am attempting to install the Linuxant ALSA driver to make my sound work properly (speakers muting when headphones plugged in). This worked on Lucid, but on Maverick the installation fails at the "building modules" stage. It directs me to a logfile, which I have reproduced here:

The package partially installed I have no sound at all. I have kernel headers and every related -dev package I can think of installed. I'm running 64-bit; could that be an issue?
I have recently acquired a Lenovo Q150 machine and attempting to use it as a HTPC. I've been reading that with this platform a newer kernel is required to make wireless, sound and a few other tweaks work correctly--so I bumped up to testing repositories to upgrade to the 2.6.38 kernel.[URL]...
The audio on this device has been more than a pain. I'm currently using XBMC to play media on this device and after setting the outputs to custom: plughw:1,9 sound is played correctly. I found this out by using alsamixer, selecting the sound card with the F6 key (Nvidia 1) unmutting all outputs, quiting, and running speaker-test -D plughw:1,X where X is the sub-device from the output of aplay -l until sound could be heard from the receiver.
Now my problem is that applications like mplayer, and iceweasel won't output any sound. I'd prefer not to use the optical out on the device and would like to send sound over HDMI. Has anyone had any luck getting it to work as it should?
I've also installed pulseaudio, not too sure if this is really needed. I've also used module assistant before upgrading to compile alsa from source, it worked but i just decided to upgrade the kernel instead of dealing with m-a every time an update comes through. I tried to install lshw to be able to list me hardware. lshw is not in synaptic. I found this page [URL] .... and from there went to [URL] .... where I read:

Recently I have started using my netbook (Acer Aspire one D250) alot more due to travelling and I noticed that the mic didn't work. Headed to the Ubuntu forums and saw a thread about installing ALSA. So I did and now I have no sound. From what I can tell ubuntu is no longer picking up my sound devices but I'm sure. Hence why I am here. I need to get my sound working again (obviously) and then in turn get my mic working for mumble and other VOIP programs.

I have installed xubuntu version 10. My sound card is a Yamaha dS-1S, and seems to be properly configured. Alsa mixer doesn't indicates any error. However, I can't manage to get any sound. I have checked that jacks are correctly plugged.

I was very excited to learn that Debian 8.0 and later has support for 32 bit UEFI on 64 bit Processors and went ahead and installed the multiarch version of 8.2. It works, but I have no GUI (Just a command line) and no WIFI connection. It seems the GUI didn't install and the WiFi card is not supported. I have found a driver for the wifi card but don't know how to install this driver. URL....
